Bartos "Get up!" the lipless monster ordered, but Bartos' jelly-like legs refused to obey. "Get up, Bartos Rigailon," the man demanded more softly, but just as forcefully. Bartos felt his forehead stung, as if something cold had slapped him hard across the face. He was in pain and his legs could barely support him, but he managed to push himself up off the floor. The scarface had made it clear that he could not disobey him. "Good," the stranger said after seeing Bartos do his wi

@akascrubber @drsawzall @Al Norris Thank you all for your insightful comments! The boys really should have kept their voices down. However, we have to remember that they are only 16 years old and have no experience of such situations. Perhaps the current situation will finally be shocking enough for them to realize that they need to stop fighting amongst themselves - we shall see. What Marta wants will become clear in time. Unfortunately, I cannot yet reveal more๐ค In the next chapter, however, we'll see how Bartos and Darren try to deal with an intruder in the house.

@Myr Thank you for your advice. These tips will help me a lot๐

I am about to publish a list of characters and a glossary of terms related to the world of my fantasy story. I was wondering how it would be most convenient to do that. Is the best way to publish a new story that would only have this one chapter? I'm thinking of using the Fantasy World Building genre, as I assume it's for this sort of thing? However, if I add this new story to the series, I guess it would become the 2nd book in the series. I don't want that, so should I either not include it in the series or create a "world"? Or not include this new "story" in anything? Then, of course, one possibility would be to add this glossary as a chapter to a story in progress (without using World Building genre).

Zdain Ipalos, Andiol Empire The bathroom door slammed shut. Josel was...completely impossible. Sometimes the blond-haired one was as if he had swallowed a burdock - mean and ill-tempered. Occasionally - though quite rarely - the caring and friendly side of Josel would bubble up to the surface. Then there was this third Josel Sandkan, who tossed verbal barbs like sharp stone chips, and was a very funny young man in his own mind. The first Josel Zdain hated, the second he admitted he l

@Seraph28 Thank you for your comment! This book is named The Shadow Path for a reason - danger lurks around every corner. We'll see what happens. More to come next week ๐
-
@akascrubber @drsawzall Thank you for your comments. We will know a little more about the fate of the boys after the next chapter, as Zdain takes over the role of narrator.

"The Bewitched Land - how can I describe it? Even after all these years, just the thought of it still gives me the creeps. Imagine yourself running into a dark labyrinth where the air is so thick you feel like you're suffocating. Imagine your legs sticky with fatigue, vomit in your throat and the back of your head pounding with the knowledge that they'll be here soon. That you won't have time to escape. The dreaders are faster, stronger and more cunning than you. Soon they will catch you, t

You are right, now is not the time for old rivalries. If Josel were travelling with one of his friends, there would be no problem. But with Zdain, for some reason, it's hard for him to find common ground.
-
Good points too! Then you are of a different opinion to @Al Norris, who thinks it would be better to stay in the house and trust Marta. Time will indeed tell which of you is right, or if neither of you is right ๐ Josel and Zdain have a complicated relationship, but at least they haven't fought each other for a while. So maybe things are better now๐ค
-
Thanksโบ๏ธGood points from you again. The boys should realise that they are in a different situation now, there is no home and life there anymore, so they could start with a clean slate with each other. We have to wait a while to find out what Josel and Zdain's situation is, as there are two other narrators in the next chapter.๐

Josel The walk to Marta Donthav's house followed the beggar's route, although the atmosphere was anything but cheerful. Josel was in a bad mood because of the goblin, on top of everything else. Zdain's mood, on the other hand, was largely Josel's fault. So there was nothing to talk about and they sulked in silence. What a sensitive clown he is, Josel liked to think of Zdain striding ahead, even though he knew he had caused the latest row. He could not apologise - he just could not - so

A slight delay. I think the next chapter will take a few more days to finish. I'm on summer holiday now, so there's a bit of holiday rush ๐โโ๏ธ๐ค๏ธ

@drsawzall Josel still has a lot of growing up to do. Maybe he'll mature when he has to deal with difficult situations. @Al Norris It's really about both. Technically, the Empire has made a lot of progress, but at the same time there has been moral decay. The latter is due to a number of factors, including the war and the fact that the regime has fallen into a kind of paralysis. This discontent fuels the Shadow Cross and other rebel forces. The following books in the series take a deeper look at the situation in Andiol.
-
You are perceptive in your reflections. The boys should be more careful in the strange city.

On the way to Ipalos The rising sun was just a reddish glimmer on the eastern horizon. It was also a promise of the day to come, a day that would hopefully bring something better than the previous one. So wished also the boy trudging along the sandy path, his mop of hair taking on its familiar golden glow with the dawn. To make sure no one was following, he turned several times to look behind him, to where the sun was beginning to rise. Repeated glances caused the blond-haired boy

Thank you. Good point. I partly agree, too much is too much. However, in serials like this, a cliffhanger is a clever way to get the readers to keep reading. But not so that every chapter ends with one.๐
-
Thank you ๐ I like cliffhangers myself too. There will be more of them as the story progresses. New plot twists and new significant characters will also come on the scene as we get further along in the story.๐ค
-
Thanks for your comment! Yes, this opens up a new sub-plot in the story. If the story is long, there have to be several of them. In the next chapter we'll meet Josel and Zdain again.๐

"People of Paidos! The minions of Monteilon the Exploiter are still at large. Do not help the oppressor, but expose the enemies of the people who are hiding. Report saboteurs and imperialists directly to the provisional government. The best tips will be rewarded!" - Bulletin of the Shadow Cross in Paidos Courier, on 6th of Withies month 1592 * * * Bartos Paidos, Andiol Empire "Breakfast! Thanks, mate!" Thank you all for the nice comments and likes. They make me very happy ๐ฅณ @Seraph28 I'm glad the story makes you happy. At the same time, it's a bit of a shame that I can't update faster ๐ A chapter a week works for me, as long as I'm not travelling. Luckily the summer holidays are coming up, so I can get away from work for a while and concentrate on this story. @akascrubber As Franz's story continues, we'll find out more about this helper and whether he's a good guy or a bad guy. For Franz's sake, let's hope for the former ๐ฌ @drsawzall You are clever! Oddly enough, the helper looks like something out of an adventure book ๐คจ Let's see where Franz goes next - as you say, he really can't go home.

Franz Paidos, Andiol Empire When Franz Landez awoke, he had no idea whether it was day or night. He had dozed off for a while, but a sudden chill brought him back to consciousness. His back ached and his legs were numb from bad posture. Sleep came only in small doses, and waking was always miserable. He had been given nothing but a thin blanket, even though the stone walls radiated cold. After Franz fumbled his way through the darkness to the door, he found a fresh ration that had be

@akascrubber You are right, their situation is not good. They are safe now, but for how long is another matter. @drsawzall All is quiet in Ipalos now. But there are dangers other than Shadow Cross lurking in the city. Let's hope the boys are on their guard.
-
Thank you very much! Yes, this was a long chapter and therefore quite slow to translate. The next chapter is shorter, but it has a new narrator character. So we'll leave Josel and Zdain to walk to Ipalos for a while ๐

"At its simplest, the Might is the ability of someone to change the established laws of physics, to do something that should not be possible. The Might comes in various manifestations, and an individual usually has only one or two ways of channelling it. For example, some can use it to heal injuries or illnesses, others can move objects, and regrettably many can use it destructively. Then there are us seekers who can locate the Might in others. It is an absolutely innate trait, present in v
