  1. @Philippe oh yes, many amongst the older generations would say 'If I got by without such-and-such, you should be able to as well!' and so they deprived their kids of what would now be seen as everyday items. Classic example ... my old man never allowed me to have a calculator at school!!! (I did get one eventually though ... like in year 11 or 12 --- right at the end! lol)
  2. @Summerabbacat hmmmmmn ..... but was it really all Julie's fault? We'll see! lol
  3. Agreed @Summerabbacat And I think that religion in Australia has always been far more reserved, at least when compared to the fervor that American's exhibit while worshipping!
  4. Back in my day (lol) it was called running writing! It was years before I heard the term cursive.
  5. -- Chapter 8 -- The mood was distinctly lighter the following morning over breakfast. Matt and Luke had walked up to the house after showering so they could have breakfast with Levi, along with Matt’s parents, and found the three of them in the kitchen, which was filled with the aroma of frying bacon. ‘Mornin’ boys,’ Matt’s father said, as they entered the kitchen. ‘Ready for another day?’ ‘We will be, once we’ve fuelled up,’ Matt answered. Levi didn’t say anything, but offer
  6. @Summerabbacat hard to say, actually. lol
  7. @Summerabbacat maybe grandpa had some? lol
  8. @Summerabbacat or perhaps ... If only! hahaha!
  9. @Ivor Slipper "There haven't even been any friends or neighbours appear." ..... yet!
  10. @centexhairysub Levi is in the exact place he needs to be right now. Let's just see how he handles it, eh?
  11. @weinerdog not everyone has a mobile phone, even these days, though it is certainly unusual. Some folks even still have landlines! haha! Imagine that! Pay phones are still available here, but they are few and far between these days. And we have religious groups here that are not even permitted to use computers ... when I had a printing business I had some of them as my customers ... they would bring stuff in they wanted created, then I would have to design and print it. I suspect that Levi is going to be shocked when the real world catches up with him ... but he does have support!
  12. @CincyKris yes, tough stuff indeed, but where will the blame ultimately lie for the bubble they lived in?
  13. @dboggs9700 time usually helps, but how many bumps in the road will there be as the journey continues?
  14. @pvtguy thank you!
  15. @Joseph OHara thank you. There is a long way to go, I think, but it's shaping up nicely, I think. And yes, Levi's basically a good kid, just in a place he doesn't want to be in. Will be interesting to see how his journey progresses.....
  16. A short edit to the very end of the previous chapter! My bad! The actual end to Chapter 6... As they walked up the path, Levi said, ‘There’s something I need to ask you . . .’ ‘And what’s that, mate? You can ask me anything you want, anytime.’ ‘It’s just I . . . I don’t know what to call you.’ Matt glanced at his father, whose face carried an amused expression. ‘Levi, you can call me whatever you feel comfortable calling me, mate. I just want you to know that I’
  17. Yes.
  18. @Summerabbacat "If there were Thompson Twins there would have to be three of them" OK... I'll keep that in mind then! lol
  19. @Lynx003 oh, I suspect that Levi will be having his own internal conflicts, but we may not discover them for a little while. Maybe later, when he meets up with Toby at school, and the girl Toby likes, we might find out more . . .
  20. @Summerabbacat damn! Did I leave Margaret in there? I thought I'd edited them all out as I was leaving her nameless ... for the simple reason that I "thought" I had given her a name in one of the earlier stories and didn't want to call her by the wrong one! lol Looks like I'll have to do some back-reading and editing then! lol Not so sure about that "twin" idea though ... at least not in this case ... but maybe there might have been a set of Thompson twins at one point separated at birth, one raised by its natural parents and one raised by some nice folk in Macquarie Harbour ... could be interesting to see how that pans out! LOL
  21. @dboggs9700 let's just say it's all a work in progress! lol
  22. @weinerdog perhaps we will find out when they meet? lol
  23. -- Chapter 6 -- The room still smelled faintly of cedar and old books. Levi had stood awkwardly in the doorway while his grandmother had fussed with the curtains the previous day, pulling them open to let in the late afternoon light. Dust floated through the narrow beam of sunshine, catching in the air like tiny drifting stars. ‘There,’ she had said softly. ‘That’s a little better.’ Levi nodded without enthusiasm, but said, ‘Thank you.’ The room was small compared to the
  24. @Summerabbacat or maybe Father Costas WAS a Catholic priest, defrocked because of his non-conformist views, which fly in the face of the modern church's views, and who just managed to find a home at the Thompsonville Community Church, and as he WAS a Catholic priest, his naturally leaning with his new congregation is to -- somewhat loosely -- follow those traditions (which include Midnight Mass) . . . maybe . . . 😂
  25. Thank you @Summerabbacat perhaps a review and small edit may be required then! Either in that story, or this one! haha
