-- Chapter Five -- The point of the sword lowered and Luther looked up into the eyes of the intruder standing above him. ‘A little birdie told me I would find you here,’ the deep, though soft, voice said. ‘I hope that he has told more than just you, my friend,’ Luther replied in a whisper, as he threw back the blanket which covered him and Jamal and sat upright. The stranger’s gaze shifted from the knight to the sleeping form of the boy and then back again. ‘I thought yo

@Summerabbacat geez Louise ... how long has it been since I heard that last? lol
-
@Summerabbacat very fitting! Thanks!

-- Chapter Four -- As the knight and his page rode deeper and deeper into the Forest of Graysmark, both grew quiet while they watched and listened to the things around them. On several occasions Jamal was startled by high-pitched screams, which seemed to be coming from some place quite close, and on other occasions he was certain that he saw movement in the dark depths of the thick bushes, which grew right up to the edge of the road they were following, or heard the sounds of what he t

-- Chapter Three -- As quietly as he could, Luther dressed in his tunic and pulled on his boots, before slipping outside into the cold morning air. It was still that time of the morning when it wasn’t quite day. It was that coldest time just before the dawn, when the sun was still to rise, yet the world was bathed in an eerie half-light before the village roosters would soon herald the new day. Luther had been troubled by what he had seen in the night, the vision of Rae kneeling

@Summerabbacat and to think I wrote it in 2003! lol

-- Chapter Two -- The city of Carronne stands at the edge of the Sea of Darkness. The land around it is barren and bleak, as are the lifeless waters of the sea that wash against it. It wasn’t always like this, however, for once the seas were alive with fish and great beasts, and the land was awash with green. But following the war, when the defeat of the King’s armies had transpired and the King himself had lost his head in battle, it was then that a curse had been placed upon the city and

@Summerabbacat spot on! I remember we had an end of year party at the home of one of the girls in our friendship group and that was pretty much all we played that night ... and that was late '81. We were in Year 12. Well, there ya go! haha. Oh, and I still have my cassette!

I think their Greatest Hits came out in my last year of High School (or at least that's when I got a copy) so when I had my own car not long afterwards I had that playing EVERY summer! LOL And yeah, Leif was pretty cool. As were Jan and Dean! MP

Very nice. But given the setting, may I offer this one...

A very fitting end to this part of the story ... with the promise of more to come! Thank you, sir, for taking us on this journey!

@drsawzall thank you.

@weinerdog I think you will like him.

Yup... there he be! 😁

@Summerabbacat hmmmm ... the stunning man doesn't appear to have materialised. lol As for a model for Septimus, if my memory serves me correctly, I believe I may have had Allan Rickman's Sherif of Nottingham, from Prince of Thieves, in mind at the time! 😋

@Summerabbacat yeah, I know this kind of stuff isn't everybody's cup of tea, but as I recall, when I started writing it, I was looking to write stories that were different from some of the others I had written, in style and subject. It could probably do with a rock and roll soundtrack, ya know! LOL

Welcome to a world where everything is not quite as it seems; a world of myth and mystery, of knights and castles and dragons, and where love knows no boundaries. For many hundreds of years, the brave and loyal knights of the Order of the Dragon have served and protected the King and the people of the Five Lands of Candor, but when they are defeated in battle by the forces of the usurper, the Dark Lord, Septimus, the entire known world changes. As the Dark Lord assumes power, aided by a tr

-- Chapter One -- In the city of Carronne, in the Valley of Carramar, where the hot winds blow endlessly from across the barren Plains of Ashmere, until they reach the Sea of Darkness, there stands a gaol. It is not an ordinary gaol, for in reality there are very few prisoners inhabiting its walls. It is a dark and foreboding place, a place filled with terror, with hidden chambers, dank cells and dim corridors, and a place where only the most vicious, or most important, of prisoners ar

Welcome to a world where everything is not quite as it seems; a world of myth and mystery, of knights and castles and dragons, and where love knows no boundaries. The knights of the Order of the Dragon have been defeated, with the usurper - the Dark Lord, Septimus - assuming control of the Five Lands of Candor, while he seeks the Golden Throne of Jeebath. This is the story of those who stand in his way.

@Summerabbacat yup, I do recognise it, though wouldn't have been able to name it if asked. At that stage it was probably while I was deep in "country mode" and gest not my thang! lol
-
@Summerabbacat seriously? I had no idea! That'll make Taita very special then!
-
@weinerdog oh yes, these guys will definitely be back ...
-
@Summerabbacat I have no idea where you find all these artists and songs that I've never heard of, but it sure is entertaining checking them out!
-
@Summerabbacat "a story centred around the aging disco diva?" yeah ... nah !!! LOL And as for Helen ... yeah, we will learn more about her. For instance, she has a tortoiseshell cat named 'Taita'. 'After the Wilbur Smith character? Why Taita?' Rick asked. 'Because he didn't have any balls either!' Helen replied. There you go ... just one little tease for you!

-- Epilogue -- ‘Are you ready yet?’ I heard Adam call from the other room. The answer to that question was no, of course. I was currently in the bathroom, standing in front of the mirror, naked, and running a finger along the five-inch scar that ran across my stomach. It was a pale line against my lightly-tanned skin, just below my rib cage on the left, and just below my heart, and all the while I was thinking about the strange twists and turns that our journey through life can take.
