I'd agree except that General guy already has all the information he needs to pursue the matter independently of Instinct. He's already doing some investigative work. Yep, it's a good story alright.

I agree, Instinct will probably come first. I have no idea if the bomb could receive a signal underwater. I probably should know but I'm terribly distracted by, A Shot of Bourbon, right now.

IIRC there's a bomb in LA and that's where Dimitri is headed. The Scar specially said not to blow up NYC. So maybe The Scar plans his second demonstration to take place in LA while Dimitri is there. I dunno. I'm really grasping at straws here.

I think the Goat calendar is somewhat analogous to the Jewish calendar in that it has it's own set of days, months and years!

If that's the case then perhaps the title should have included "possible" in it. Then again your explanation makes as much sense as mine. Hopefully CJ will give us all a clue.

Ah, thanks. That explains why I couldn't find a one size fits all solution. That still means CJ took pity on us and put us out of our suffering.

It was rather amazing wasn't it? I don't think I've ever seen a chapter generate that much traffic in such a short amount of time. How about both of you sharing the cliffhanger throne? Just admit that you both do it and that it works well.

What made you release 38 early, CJ? I don't recall anyone guessing correctly. Did you simply take pity on us because you saw how much we were suffering? Either way thanks.

Steve, the only explanation for the title that I can come up with is that it's a reference to the pilot and to Gunter. I dunno though. I'm still confused by it. And BTW, where are my manners? Thank you CJ for releasing the chapter early. The band is still not out of danger but at least they're alive for now and maybe The Scar will get caught after all.

I don't understand the title of the chapter at all. There was no death above and no death below. I'm reasonably happy about the outcome though, for now at least.

Silly Benji. The flaming wreck of a plane hits the damned goat and saves us the trouble of BBQing him.

OK, Mike. I like a good challenge. The fire above is the plane exploding in a fireball as all the missile hit their target. The fire below is when The Scar sets off his next nuclear device.

Consider the Prologue. It's all about The Scar. Instinct has never been the main characters and there is no reason why they should survive other than our hopes that they do. Am I the one who's warm? If so here's my slightly modified theory: Instead of the missiles missing the bizjet one of them does hit, lodging itself in the one operating engine nacelle and exploding. The force of the blast is enough to shred the engine to pieces but not strong enough to outright blow the plane apart. The missile exploding is the fire above part. I'm sticking with my theory that the fire below is when the bizjet hits the ground and explodes in a fireball killing everyone on board. Do I win anything CJ?

IIRC, the first set of missiles were radar-guided. The second set, the Sidewinders, are heat-seekers.

The one remaining engine on the jet Instinct is in fails, the plane falls out of the sky and the death below results from the plane hitting the ground and killing everyone on board. Death above are the Sidewinder missiles finding new targets, the incoming F-16s, and blowing them out of the sky. Meanwhile The Scar and Dimitri are hoping to board a plane out of Australia so they can carry out the rest of their plan...

Mario is in a "profession" where one is expected not to blab. Otherwise it will be a short-lived career choice. Then again he could change his mind once he learns about the nuclear explosion in Australia. Somewhere in the heart of a hit man there have to be some morals. However it's my gut feeling that Mario is irrelevant at this point. Dimitri might still be needed as the guy who takes delivery of the gold. After that I tend to think that Dimitri will become a liability that The Scar will have to do away with.

OK, let's say the one remaining engine on the business jet dies and the missiles turn their attention to the incoming F-16s. That would explain the death from above part of the title of the next chapter. The band is still going to be dead. So what's going to be the death from below? Will it be The Scar setting off another bomb? Or could it possibly be that The Scar and Dimitri were a little too close at 20 miles out and got a good dose of radiation. How far could they have gotten in the short time between when they got in the Land Rover and the remnants of the explosion blew through where they had just been standing? It's all just idle speculation on my part. But it gives me something to do while we all await the next chapter.

If The Scar is the antagonist then it would seem to me that logically Eric has to be the protagonist. It was Eric who was suspicious of Jerry and took the lead in trying to uncover what J/S was up to, and who, more than once, came close to death as a result of his suspicions. But all along I thought we were led to believe Brandon was the protagonist. Therefore CJ has misled us all along. He's toyed with us. Played us for fools. And we bought it. Now he's trying to misdirect us again. First with the title of 38 and then with all this hooey about Shadowgod. I am so confused now I have no idea what's going to happen.

Yes, that's my point. Therefore you don't connect Scar to the band. There will be no survivors. The GPS won't work. The rest of the story will be about Scar and his extortion scheme. One or two more chapters and the story is done. As I told a friend in PM I'd love to be wrong about this. I promised to remain open minded enough to believe anything plausible that CJ comes up with.
