I can see Wade as a consultant or a lobbyist, but I could also see him as a politician. With his pedigree, he doesn't have to go Georgetown Law (Harvard would sound better on a bio anyway) and he doesn't have to work as a page. He'd consider working as a page to be demeaning at this point. He's still young enough that Virginia residency isn't an issue, and it wouldn't be anyway, since he probably lists Goodwell as his permanent residence. He's from one of Virginia's First Families. How much more VA can you get?
I also don't see him as a "get home by 5 and play with the kids" kind of guy. He's too driven, too achievement oriented. He's much more likely to be a workaholic.
I really think it's too soon to make a call on Matt and Wade. They'll both be in different cities, meeting new people. So they'll undoubtedly have temptation from those new relationships, but that will conflict with their intense history, and their bond, which is really good when it works.
Wade doesn't have to worry about a cover. He's out and proud now. That newspaper article when he was a freshman pretty much labelled him. :-)
Léon,
I think that Matt and Wade both have to move on individually at this point. Whether they ultimately come back together remains to be seen. Relationships are like that.
You're the buzz kill at the party who, when someone announces some achievement, you ask them why they didn't do it years ago (like you told them to), right? (SMILE).
The winding down feel is interesting, since I actually felt this way too. You'll probably feel that way again. And maybe again. But the point of Flux is to transition away from 9-11 and into a new direction, so I have to get them launched on a new path.
Jason, you're hilarious. I'm glad you're confident that all of the drama has dissipated. How could it be otherwise with such a calm cast of characters? ;-)
I'm not anti-Celtic, I'm just not much into religion. Celts are hot.
"I have real hope that 911 is now more or less being viewed in their tail lights." That's very true. What you're seeing with all of them is that when the horror of that day finally recedes, they can try to become the people they were before it happened, or maybe even better.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked the scene with Casey and Matt. I think it says a lot about their (professional) relationship that they both know how to keep a respectable distance, but also when to close that distance.
Last chapter we saw Brad flush the grieving cobwebs from his brain; in this chapter, it was Matt's turn.

“We’ll send Pedro back to pick you up,” Will told me. Zach and Brad said nothing. Zach looked at me sympathetically, while Brad just looked guilty. I tried to decide which one was worse.
“That’s fine,” I said. They dropped me off in front of Casey Bridgeport’s office building, and then headed for Escorial. I went in and checked in with the receptionist, who gave me an odd look, probably because I wasn’t my normal, flirtatious self. After
I'm not sure if that's true. Barry would have seen much more of the internal family dynamics than the average person. He would have been privy to Wally's rants about Will's influence on Zach, he would have seen Zach's reaction when they told him he couldn't be with Will, and he certainly would have been clued in when Will's family rained thunder down on him via Cody.
It seems that every story, you post something that not only makes me laugh, but sticks in my memory, and continues to make me laugh. This is one of them. I'm hoping this replaces the quip "horribly unfortunate old, bald, fat Asian man" in my psyche.
