You make a very good point. Will is really in this chapter as a foil and a companion for Matt.

Hey Maarten! Thanks for the review. Once again, you've let your general dislike for Will cloud the issue (SMILE). Seriously, during their conversation (betwen Stef, Matt, and Will) Stef told Will to pose his questions directly to Josh, so Will is doing what he was instructed to do, by the master. I think Stef would like that term (WINK). Stef probably wanted to see how Will did in that kind of situation.

That's a really good point, Miles. I think that Matt is starting to realize that too, and I think he's actually glad about it.

Great review! I'm not convinced that wanting to be with one person vs. being uncommitted is a sign of maturity, but in this case, it probably is. The condo over the bar is a challenge: the question is how Matt will rise to that challenge. So to speak. :-)

Thanks Kitt. I think having the condo by Northwestern will give Matt a handy escape if he wants some tranquility. He is really embracing single life, and this seems like the ultimate way to do it. We'll see how it goes. click click click...

Matt had some pretty rowdy years at Stanford, but still managed to do well. Good enough to get into Univ. of Chicago. If we compare him to Wade, he won't seem as mature, but if we look at him in isolation, I think he'll do alright. He's not one to shirk his responsibilities.

Thanks for the review! I think that even in 2002, the upside from those two franchises would have been suspected. Companies are valued based on what they're expected to do in the future, so I think they would have factored the perceived upside into it, but it's probable that they may not have gotten as much as they otherwise might have. Not even Stef has clairvoyant vision. The other point there is that this is probably an emotional issue, and part of letting go of Robbie may be letting go of the company.

That's sad but true. The City isn't much better. I think it will be interesting for Matt to live over the club. We'll see just how much he's matured.

You assumed I didn't research that first? :-) Actually, that's one of the first things I looked up when I started writing the chapter on Chicago. I couldn't recall exactly when it closed, but as you mentioned, it was shut down in a most underhanded (but clever) way in 2003.

Great observation Sammy. That's really part of Will's maturation process. He's getting more confidence, and is willing to step out and demand answers from people who aren't just in his family. Probably makes them happy...takes the heat off of them. ;-)

June 24, 2002 Somewhere over Nebraska Matt I’d just finished reading through the materials on the proposed buyout of Anders-Hayes, then set the papers down and waited for Will to finish doing the same thing. Stef had given us both copies, and had let us read them before explaining them. Will closed his binder just a few minutes after I did. I’d spent a lot of time looking at the valuation models, which he probably didn’t, but it must have taken him longer to grasp all

Glad you liked this one. I think it's inevitable that Zach will make mistakes, but mistakes aren't necessarily deadly. Will is relatively forgiving (if an apology is offered), but he's also demanding, so Zach's going to have to pay attention to him, or this won't work.

The return of personal property was a bit of an amalgamation of events; there was actually an agency designated with handling that. I think that college will actually be the toughest time for Will and Zach. Once he gets to the NFL, things should actually be a little easier.

I'm not sure what brought you to the conclusion that the bleeding in St. Louis is over. That's not how I see it. I see it as a city that is ruled by the status quo, where innovation is not rewarded, but towing the line and maintaining the good old boy network is. I would be very wary of starting a new business here. You're more likely to have it stolen or sabotaged by the powers-that-be. As for skylines, I think Pittsburgh wins hands down, especially if you come in from the tunnel on the freeway from the airport, where the whole downtown seems to explode in front of you as you come out of it. Impressive.

Thank you so much! As usual, I read through your review and just nod. I think that Matt inviting Will was a really good omen for their future relationship. I can see the two of them having a really good time in Chicago. I don't see Will as a damsel in distress. He's too saavy for that.

That has to do with a couple of factors: 1. Valiant chapters take a lot longer to write (and more effort) than Flux chapters, solely do to the research. 2. I am at the end of a semester, and don't have much time. 3. The writing and posting of chapters is not something that happens in a day. It takes time. The reason you're still seeing Flux chapters is because I had some in the mill, going through editing, etc. If you ask my team, they'll tell you it's been a bit since they've seen a draft from either story, and it's likely to stay that way for a week or two.

Thanks. I really do try to throw humor into the dialog. I'm glad you appreciate it! I like the way Zach handled Brad as well. I imagine that really boosted Zach's esteem in Brad's eyes.

I don't think Brad is really trying to convey that message to Zach...that happiness is as important as his career...because in Brad's mind, the two are interconnected. And for Zach, that is even more true. Zach was trying to build a bond with Brad, which was nice, and Brad was basically telling Zach that he'd be cool with him as long as Zach didn't fuck Will over. As for the rest of your review (thanks, by the way), I think you're in for some fun surprises. :-)
