    Chapter 50

Things moved a lot slower in those times, and perhaps that helps give someone like Granger the ability to piece actions together. I think that as long as Granger (and Travers, via Granger) can forgive Jardines, Jardines will be able to forgive himself.
  2. Just as a point of (possible) interest, I answered an interview question for the GA "Ask the Author" blog spot.

    Chapter 50

May, 1798 Off Ceylon “My lord,” Winkler said, rousing Granger. “It is almost dawn, and Captain Raymond is on his way to see you.” Winkler noticed with disapproval that Granger had slept in his clothes last night. He normally waited up for his captain to go to bed, but Granger had finally outlasted him. Granger roused himself in the light of a dim lantern and put on his jacket. He had been up and about most of the night, analyzing his conversation with Jardin

    Chapter 20

Kai's nervous around Will because he doesn't really know him all that well. They damn near got into a fight, then Will saved Kai from being all but raped by Scott, then they blew each other. Not exactly an auspicious beginning. :-)

    Chapter 19

Six,Thanks for catching up on posting reviews when you got back! I really do appreciate it. I think that Robbie's normal demeanor is to be pretty laid back, and I think that works well with Will (and most everyone, probably). It's interesting to think that even though Robbie and Brad are tight, they don't necessarily agree all the time when it comes to their kids.
  6. That's true. Death and dismemberment would only create more drama.
  7. Old? Seriously?
  8. $62.50 per semester in 1959 is roughly worth $500 in today's dollars. Not sure which school you went to (for comparison), but tuition has generally exceeded inflation.
  9. I don't remember it that way. I remember the outrage at the attacks, but then I remember the solidarity that came afterward. There was a general global outpouring of goodwill, and I remember feeling very proud to be an American, until George Bush fucked it all up by invading Iraq.
  10. There's an interesting storyline: an 18th century Bacchanalian orgy.
  11. I thought it was well established that you liked nuts.
  12. I am stunned that you advocated killing off JJ and Sharon didn't like your post.

    Chapter 20

Perhaps Will is being naive, but as I said in the review below, he has that luxury, whereas many of the rest of us would not have. Unfortunately for Brad and Stef, their cynicism just exposes them as hypocrites, and even more unfortunately for them, Will has the ability to call in JP to act as God and explain it to them.

    Chapter 20

Too funny! There are certainly risks out there for Will, but my general philosophy is that the more well-informed you are about the risks, the better able you are to handle them. In Will's case, he certainly could be a target for a predator, but he has a lot of common sense, so that person would have to be able to completely co-opt him. That's a tall order for this perceptive young guy. And it's not like he's sheltered with no help available; he's got plenty of people to run to his rescue. He can be pretty laid back about Kai and his possible extra-curricular activities because he is largely insulated from them. JJ, on the other hand, would be a prime target for a predator, IMHO.

    Chapter 20

    I'm a dealer in literary heroin. :-)

    Chapter 20

I really like your point on not everyone being 'out', and although I didn't write this in to that aspect of the story, it's a good thread to keep in mind. That could certainly spark an interesting discussion on the relative fairness and tolerance within the gay community for those who are and wish to remain closeted. (BTW, you get your wish).

    Chapter 20

Will really has nothing to fear from Scott. Scott/Lark has always been charming but sleazy, so none of his actions should surprise us too much. It's interesting how easy it is to forget one's past. So often, both Stef and Brad seem to forget their own mistakes and try to moralize with Will. Not the smartest idea. :-)

    Chapter 20

I think our experiences shape who we are, and for Will, (dealing with his mother and father, not to mention the erratic dudes he's been with), he's had a lot more stresses in his early teen years than Brad did. Brad had a rough childhood, but once he got to Escorial, things evened out for him (age 5/6). He got to have more normal early teen years (with the exception of his psycho half-brother and half-sister). Will's battles came at a different time (now) and they're shaping him into the man he'll become. I think that you hit on one of his biggest talents: his perceptive abilities. He is getting quite good at figuring out what other people are thinking, what they want, and what motivates them.

    Chapter 20

There is a slow build, to a degree, to set the stage for September. But part of this slow build is the evolution of Will's character.

    Chapter 20

You should know that in a CAP story, when something seems obvious, it probably isn't. :-)

    Chapter 20

July 23, 2001 I followed my dad into the plane and saw Stef sitting there, smiling at me. “I didn’t know you were coming too! That’s awesome!” “I am glad that you are pleased,” he said, then turned to my father. “And I am glad that you are doing better. Do not infect me with your germs.” “I’m doing better,” Dad agreed, although he clearly wasn’t completely recovered. “Why don’t you go back and lie down,” I suggested. “That way we can talk about you.”
  22. Darius would have an interesting time in the military after 9-11, since his natural father is Iranian. The only thing worse than that would be if he was gay. Who would the military have reviled more: a gay man, or a man who was half-Iranian?
  23. Jeremy raises a good point, in that the list is by no means exhaustive. I was limited to 15 choices per question, so I picked the first 15 people that came to my mind.
  24. Maybe, but Somers would most likely buy a commission in one of the other regiments. He would not be precluded from doing so by virtue of his position in the Marines. It is also possible that he is part of a regular regiment serving as marines. There were significant shortages of marines, so some regular regiments were tapped to provide troops for the fleet.
