  1. I'm glad you liked it. It's pretty much what this story was all about.
  2. I'm glad you liked it. I reread it when I posted it and got a little teary-eyed too. But don't tell anyone. ;-)
  3. Thanks big guy! I had fun with this one.

    Chapter 5

Well this was one of your more profound reviews. LOL. We're all clamoring for an edit function...now you know why. :-)
  5. January 4, 2001 Palo Alto, CA Will We’d all been pretty quiet on the way to the airport. I didn’t call my dad out on the thing with Scott Slater because that was a conversation I needed to have with him in private. I’d given him my oath that I wouldn’t reveal anything about Scott Slater and his new identity, so I was stuck adhering to that promise. But that didn’t mean I couldn’t talk to my father about it. That look that we’d exchanged in the kitchen said it all. He knew that I’
  6. I just finished Chapter 36. It will be in editing for a bit still.
  7. I think you'll flnd that Will has discovered enough maturity through his various crucibles that he handles this situation pretty well.

    Chapter 99

You make a good point on the difference between a "gay teen suicide" and a "molested teen suicide." And I think your descriptions of Kyle and Tony are spot on, and pretty much reflect Will's own thoughts as he reflected them to Stef. If Will is going to be involved with those guys, he is asking for trouble, but he does deserve to be treated better.

    Chapter 99

This story is perhaps more impactful for me personally, since I have put so many of my experiences in here by proxy.

    Chapter 99

Thanks Jason. Perhaps you are a sensation seeker, thriving on the thrill of the ups and down of the story? I appreciate your observations on the joys of being institutionalized. I have been lucky to avoid that personally, but I have seen others cope with it. One friend did quite well in a smaller facility, but as you noted, there was still a jail-like quality about the place.

    Chapter 99

You're right. It's sad that Shane didn't have a person (presumably) to talk to about his problems. As high strung as he is (and JJ is), though, I kind of wonder if it would have mattered. Maybe. I think that you correctly nail Will's confusion. He's subconsciously smart enough to know he's not in a good place for a relationship, but he wants the physical and emotional intimacy that comes from one.

    Chapter 99

Thanks for your comments! You're right about teen suicide. It's such a tragedy, that these young people can't see a future beyond their pain. Like i said, I'm not sure that Will wants a boyfriend, at least not from the current candidates.

    Chapter 99

I think that having Will tell JJ can make their relationship go either way: better or worse. I'm not sure which one that will be, but we won't see the results of that until the next story.

    Chapter 99

Thanks Pete! I think you're right about Shane's death helping JJ start to heal, but it was sad.

A few surprises in this chapter. :-) Glad you liked it.

    Chapter 99

Thanks Kody! If I left you speechless, that truly is an achievement. :-)

    Chapter 99

I think that Stef has the solution for Will's problems with Tony and Kyle. Will doesn't want or need a relationship, but he deserves to be treated with respect. I think those guys can, as Stef noted, be trained.

    Chapter 99

You certainly were correct about Lark. It was somewhat frustrating to see your guess in the forums. I didn't think anyone would get that one. Grrr. Nice job!

I try to keep you on your toes. :-)
  20. God, that song by The Smiths is depressing. They have an inherently morbid sound anyway. But good choice.

    Chapter 99

Thanks. Light cliffhanger...good way to put it. I thought it was a nice way to bring Lark back into the story.

    Chapter 99

Or you could just wait for the final chapter. ;-)

    Chapter 99

January 1, 2001 Escorial, CA Will I sat down at my desk and flipped on my computer, waiting for it to boot up so I could check my e-mail. I was enjoying some solitude after a long day of dealing with people. Not that it had been unpleasant. I’d had a good visit with my mother, and a great dinner, where Matt and Wade all but got engaged. Still, sometimes it was nice to just enjoy some quiet time, and some peace. The phone rang, blasting my period of tranquility all to hell. It wa
  24. The next chapter of Paternity will probably post later tonight, in time for St. Patrick's Day. Expect it around 12-12:30 CST.

    Chapter 98

It's pretty cool when readers tell me how events in a story mirror their own, at least in some way. Part of the challenge of writing a saga like this, where it is soap opera-esque in it's nature, is to keep things as real as possible. It's nice when that works out.
