Now that we're starting to mention JJ's career, it's going to be hilarious to see how his handlers try to make JJ not seem like the bitchy diva he is, and seem like a humble orphan and All-American Boy Next Door saved by Christianity. I think they'd do something along the lines of Evan Lysacek, but at the same time push the whole "JJ is an orphan" deal because Brad Schluter does not exactly have a Disney-friendly image. And Jeanine going off the rails is convenient in the regard of making JJ look like a orphan. (God, I feel so evil and calculating in saying that.) If they were smart, they'd have JJ call Brad "uncle", pretend Robbie doesn't exist, and have JJ cozy up to Blonde Republican Trophy Wife Claire as his adoring aunt that's basically like a mother to him. It'd be freaking hilarious if they made JJ visit a cookie factory like they did with Evan. LOL. (I seriously wish I could find footage of that.) Tim n Blue, what's a really incredibly wholesome and really SoCal thing that JJ could do that would say how wholesome and clean-cut he is? Right now I'm thinking JJ visiting Disneyland with his cousin Courtney because it'd be all, "Look at JJ taking his adorable little cousin to Disneyland! What a fine, upstanding young man, who's way too concentrated on his career to even think about having a girlfriend!" But I'm sure you guys could think of something even better, more saccharine-sweet, and uniquely Southern Californian. -

Brad and Robbie's song, circa Man In Motion. "More Than This" by Roxxy Music Bitty's Theme Song, Man in Motion "Live to Tell" by Madonna I wanted to use this soooo badly for the scene where Bitty admits that JJ's father is Jim Crampton, but that scene was set in December 1985 and this is an 1986 song. Argh. -
Adam, you'll never going to be old. You'll always be 18 years old in heart. I do cherish that about you- that you never forget what it was like to be growing up, and you were able to relate to people going through adolescence. As for labels...I mean, it can be limiting, but only if you don't go beyond the label to find the person behind it.

It's been three years since I've given a blowjob so I've forgotten what it's like. LOL. -

Yeah, like I said, I only really posted the second one because I thought the guy was cute. I have a thing for good-looking older men in their 30's. In 'n Out just seems pretty cool because they actually give insurance to their workers, use free-range cattle beef, and don't abuse the heck out of the environment the way Mickey D's does. They have Five Guys out in California now? Hmm. I know that they're trying to bring Capriotti's subs out to Los Angeles now...I wonder if they're there yet. Mmm...a Bobbie... I'm just going off the HW article I read about Coachella. It seems like it'd be just about the right level of "badness" for JJ to want to partake in, without getting in major trouble. In other words, a perfect senior skip day trip. Of course, it's not like Will couldn't do both. I really wish I had gone into the rave scene when I was 15. It just seemed so cool and fascinating, going from all the stories I heard. Unfortunately, all I did at 15 was sit at home, watch Buffy, post to I Hate Jen and Fanforum, and write Dawson's Creek fanfic. Ugh. -
If I were going on how Tony is now, I think he'd be likely to go back to the St. Louis suburbs after graduation in '04, get married to a high school sweetheart from Catholic school, have kids before he's 25, and then have "fishing trips" with his best friend that he made from work. I'm not sure Will would fit in well with that. Of course, the character can change, but that's where I feel like his path would be right now if he doesn't change. I do actually hope that Mark doesn't have Will settled down in a "soulmates" relationship like he had Brad and Robbie settled down in. It'd be more fun to see both Will and JJ play the field in their 20's rather than be in serious "we're meant to be together" relationships like he did with Brad/Robbie, and seems to be doing with Matt/Wade. Since it looks like Mark's going to do a story for every year in the 2000's instead of skipping over a few years, the story field needs to be keep more wide open.

As part of the current "Shit (Blank) People Say" Youtube craze, L.A. got the same treatment.... I liked the IN-N-Out part. If I ever get out to California, I'm so going there. I heard In-N-Out is even better than Five Guys. And the Coachella bit was funny, given our past discussion. LOL. My favorite part was "A ticket? Are you kidding me? This is bullshit. I'm taking a picture." I have a friend from high school who moved out to L.A. and posted a picture of her parking violation to complain about getting a ticket. LOL. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq2hsAsskig&feature=related This one isn't as funny, but the guy in the video was pretty cute. -

As someone put it, in the right circumstances, you can get a straight guy to let you give him a blow job. But he's not going to want to marry you and settle down in the suburbs with 2.5 kids that you procured courtesy of a surrogate. I mean, it can happen, but it'd be extremely rare. -
I don't know. I guess I was going by the whole, "let's bring back Brad's dead stepfather's son and hook him up with Brad's son!" deal that made it seem like the whole thing was going to be a soulmates deal. If Tony was a totally made-from-scratch character with no ties to the canvas I'd be more inclined to think you were going to set them up as just hook-up buds. And good point, by the way. Up until my mid/late teens, I was pretty uptight and kind of repressed. Then I learned to be Mr. Cool Laidback College Guy. So I can see how they might not wind up control freaks after all.
-
It's been a blast being part of your team and seeing what kind of crazy-ass scenarios you'll come up with.
-
Good point. Although man- I guess that leaves John Hobart as the only guy in Generation 4 not exhibiting control freak signs. Sheesh. For a laidback stoner surfer family, they sure do get high-strung. If we're going by your M.O., that means something big is going to happen between Will and Tony, since it seems like we're supposed to be rooting for them as soulmates as well that just need to overcome Will's age and Tony's closet-case-ness.

I somehow, through some miracle, got a B in the class I thought I was going to fail. My GPA went down a little bit, from a 3.83 to a 3.77, but I'm pretty happy with it.
-
I was more of a performing arts drama freak.
-
I wonder if that's a product of their generation. Gen Y people were brought up to be more open about their feelings, and not keep things so bottled up that things explode. We were also raised to be team players, with communication being key, so that might be another reason. It also helps that neither Matt nor Wade are anal-retentive control freaks like Brad and JP can be.

Character Theme Songs

Alright, what I mean is- Britney Spears music is about being a diva, campy, and over the top. It's about being dramatic and the like. Will isn't a drama queen, he's not flamboyant, and he's not campy. He's more of a wry smart-ass. And I'm going off by what I've seen of her devoted fans to tell you that I really don't see Britney Spears when it comes to Will. Will is more like surfer stoner rock, skater punk rock, some hip-hop and classic rock thrown in. He doesn't feel like a Britney Spears dance tune, the way JJ screams it. ("Circus" by Britney. Sooooo JJ.) Of course, your mileage may vary here. "1985" is interesting. I can see all of it being for them, especially for Jeanine. Her life basically became all about raising children in 1985, and you can kinda see the bitterness there. I like that. "Milkshake" by Kelis for Stefan. Obviously. And I like "Candy Shop" by 50 Cent for Cody. -
Day 6- January 25th I continued working on Box 8. Someone came in to donate items that her father had left to her when she had died. I got to see how the museum accepts a gift, and the form that needs to get filmed out. Her collection included family genealogoies of the Buterbaugh family in Pennyslvania, as well as yearbooks from Homer City, P.A. It was neat to compare the 1970 yearbook photo of the senior class, to the class of 1980. In 1970, the teenagers were dressed so much more formally, especially the girls. The girls of 1970 all seemed to be dress in plaid skirts and the like, while the girls of 1980 were all dressed in jeans, many of them with Farrah Fawcett bangs. Interesting how fashions can change so much in ten years. I have a friend who graduated high school in 1980/1981, and it made me think, "Oh wow, that's how he and his contemporaries dressed back in the early 1980's." I really do enjoy looking at old yearbooks from a by-gone era. The other volunteers and I had an interesting discussion about funding. It's a pretty challenging time right now for museums. A visitor brought up how they should put up advertisements for the historical society at the Jimmy Stewart museum, so we can get reverbation off of the visitation from that museum. It reminded me of how much collaboration is stressed at other museums I've worked at to try and survive together.

Some 9/11 help....Was anyone in the 2nd tower?
methodwriter85 replied to Mark Arbour's topic in Mark Arbour Fan Club's Topics
9/11 is now less than a year away in CAP World Time. God, I can't wait to see how you address it. I'm sure it'll be great. -
First of all, I never bitch at you, Mark. I am far too shy, sweet, and humble to ever get into some kind of rampaging bitch mode. Second, be glad you have me on you about this. I'm still trying to coax someone back into reading CAP, which he abandoned when it looked like you were going to replay Brad's teen angst with Will. At 12 stories in, it's easy to start repeating old storylines, and I'm ever viligant to keep that from happening. No one wants to read a re-tread of old CAP storylines with the new generation of kids- things need to be kept fresh, interesting, and different. The homage stuff is great, like the references to Man In Motion during Poor Man's Son, but when you start ripping off your old storylines, that's when you know it's time to call it a day. Kinda like Little House on the Prairie, when they brought Shannen Doherty on during the last few years of the show to try and be the New Melissa Gilbert because Melissa Gilbert could not do cute little girl storylines anymore. It doesn't work. Will cannot be the New Brad. Wade cannot be the New JP. Let these characters have their own dynamics and issues to work through, rather than replay things we've already covered and seen. You HAVE been doing a great job of giving this generation of kids a completely different feel from the Be Rad, and it's been great. JJ especially feels completely fresh, and fun. Which makes sense- Jeremy really is just so special and one in a million, you know? Over in the Reviews, Private Tim wrote: Dude, I wouldn't sound Taps just yet. There's still Wade's mother to deal with, not to mention all the southern Virginian relatives that are going to want to meet Riley for Blueblood Baby's First Christmas. (And no doubt have some hearty opinions about Tiffany.) The 2000 election is going to provide some good fodder. Not to mention the Bush innauguration, signaling the end of the Golden Era of the Clinton administration and the beginning of 8 years of Dubya hell. And on Will's side, we still need to see the Harvard-Westlake 9th grade retreat. Thanks. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were definitely on a hot streak in 1999-2000.

Day 4- January 21st I finished processing Box 6, which was nice. Day 5 - January 24th I was about to go through box 7, but it was crammed full of personal military service records from World War I. I decided that it was a box that needed to have someone process it for the entire semester, rather than just being given a cursory glance through. The military records were held together by rusting metal clips, and will hopefully be preserved much better. It was fascinating to look at a few of the records- one was a William Sharp, who was an 18-year old knitter from Philadelphia that was drafted in 1917. I wonder if he survived and went on to have lots of grandkids, or if he died in the War. The box also included a book about the psychology of returning servicemen from 1945, and talked about combat nerves. The book didn't include a date, and I assumed judging from a photo of a soldier in the back that it was a 1950's book, because the soldier's hair seemed a little long for the 1940's, but I turned out to have been wrong once I looked the book up on the internet. The bit about combat nerves was interesting- they knew that soldiers were getting traumatized by war, but it was way before the term "post-traumatic stress disorder" was formed. My favorite part of this box was seeing a journal that held advertisements for a hotel; that I know now as the Pita Pit that I've gone to a couple of times. That's what I like so much about Indiana- rather than tearing down all of their old buildings like Newark, DE has done, they're still around.

Aww. Matt called Riley his step-son. Even though I'm totally against 20-year olds being made into parents, I gotta admit that made me melt a little.

How Should the CAP Saga End?

I'm not sure Days of Our Lives is an apt analogy for CAP. Way too conservative. Their own gay Will character is taking foooorrreeeevvvveeerrr to come out. -

I actually thought about this, and I gotta say, I disagree. Britney Spears doesn't really fit Will's personality- he's too chill and low-key and not really flamboyant enough for Britney Spears. Britney Spears is more suited to a diva like JJ. When I think of Will, I think poppy skater punk, indie rock, stoner rock, and maybe some hip-hop. I'm thinking "First Date" by Blink 182 for Will. Kinda capture's Will's puppy love deal in "Poor Man's Son." And "Swing Swing" by All-American Rejects makes me think of whenever Will would get all angsty when it didn't work out with his "boyfriend" of the moment. Aww, nothing like teen angst. (God, what the HELL happened to Tyson Ritter???? He used to be so gorgeous.) -
R.I.P. Joe Paterno. You accomplished a whole hell of a lot in your 85 years on Earth. My condolences to Joe Paterno's family and the Happy Valley community.

I am so feeling this right now. MGMT is so trippy.
