Faces for Mark's Stories

Troye Sivan for Mouse? He has that kind cheerful oddball energy that I could see with Mouse, and someone I can see cycling through a lot of different trendy looks. -
I remember when Mark first wrote Travis as looking like Skip from Pleasantville (which I absolutely loved as a kid), and then going, "Wait a minute, wasn't Jake described as looking like an older version of Paul Walker from the Fast and the Furious movies?" LOL But I mean, yeah- you can kinda see the difference. Travis is supposed to be the perfect, 18-year old pretty boy jock, while thirtysomething Jake has some miles on him. (And probably a pretty decent amount of facial scruff, at least how I'd like to picture him, LOL.) It makes sense that no one really picked up on the resemblance until you actually saw them together. I do picture them both having Paul's lovely laid back SoCal accent, though.

Yeah, I was 22 when I first started working with Mark. I'm almost 38 now. I've also been involved with beta reading JWolf's stories for over 10 years at this point. Wild how the years tick off.

I remember once talking to someone from Ohio who told me they've never seen the ocean. You could have knocked me over with a feather.
-
What about Carnegie Mellon? Pittsburgh isn't too far away from Claremont, Ohio.

God, it still bothers me that Matthew Bomer isn't a big A-list star. He really should have been. Like an actor CAN come out in 2023 but if they do, they hit a ceiling and mostly get offers to play gay men in Ryan Murphy productions or a dour HBO mini-series about the AIDS epidemic. There's a reason why Jeremy Renner and Richard Madden still play the "special roommate" game while Pedro Pascal doesn't comment on his personal life. In Travis's case, he would absolutely be encouraged to not come out because his look reads leading man handsome. There was more latitude with character actor types but even Kevin Spacey wasn't openly gay at this time. (Speaking of, I'm assuming Stefan would have had Travis steer clear of Spacey because I doubt the rep came out of nowhere, as well as Bryan Singer. Although I think Travis is already aging out of Bryan's preferences. Eww.🤮)

I work at a movie theater, so everything is all Taylor Swift, so therefore her songs are stuck in my head, therefore I did a playlist themed to CAP. LOL CAP Character Relationship Playlist, the Swift Edition 1.) Will/Tony "We Are Never Getting Back Together" 2.) Brad/Robbie "Happiness" 3.) JP and Stefan "Timeless" 4.) Will/Zach "I Know Places" "Red" "A Better Man" 5.) Wade and Matt "Lover" This one is seriously assuming that Mark doesn't undo the happy ending that he gave Matt and Wade. LOL When they were conflicting... "Out of the Woods" 6.) Will/Travis I can't decide between "Lavender Haze" and "Delicate", so I'll go with both. LOL 7.) JJ and Alex "August" and JJ's recovery from his doomed relationship with Alex: "Clean" by Taylor Swift 8.) Brad and Jake "The Archer" 9.) JJ and Tony "New Romantics" and "Willow" 10.) Marie and Ryan "Cardigan" Anyway, this was fun.

You do have that mindset reflected with JJ. I don't think he's even gotten drunk. Of course, with lithium you're really not supposed to drink because mood stabilizers could endanger that. I think with JJ though, Mark has written him as a tightly wound person afraid of losing control over himself, so we don't see him over-indulge. It's also possible that JJ is very aware of Bitty's struggles with addiction and might be worried that it's genetic. I think JJ also still has that desire to be the "good boy" as opposed to his rebellious brothers. Of course, this can change as he gets older and further away from his Skate Prince self-image.

Kind of fun to remember that JJ is still a kid, and he's not going to immediately knock everything out of the park when it comes to being a stylist.

Okay, Zach's "Could.Not.Afford.It." line was hilarious to me. I'm glad we're seeing a more normal Zach. Hopefully he's got a handle on his roidouts or whatever you want to call his mood swings.

There's a guy I used to talk to. He and his best friend began a sexual relationship in their teens and they've continued it today. As they are both Alpha Male types, fights as kids were pretty common and they still occasionally happen. They're fine and as "Jensen" like to put it, he and "Scott" have a fun time making up. But Will and Zach never had physical fighting as part of their relationship so Will pretty much backed away immediately. Will's a lover, not a fighter, to use a cliche term. Lol I don't even think him, JJ, and Darius fought each other as kids. It's just not the kind of world they are from.

I really, really, really loved the Zach/Will relationship and it bummed me out when I realized that it was done for good, at least for the next 5-10 years. *sigh*
-
I thought you as a conservative would cheer how family oriented Will is. You can't deny that family is like air to Will. He needs them.
-
So it's Sean Cody and Fraternity Memoirs for you too? Lol

Since we're being personal here, I'm going to admit that I've been celibate for the past 11 years. It's not because of any beliefs or anything, but because I really didn't feel good about myself after having sex with a married guy. I realized that since I didn't have the heart to keep going to mindless hookups or an actual interest in finding someone to be with, I just eventually fell into celibacy. Sean Cody videos and Fraternity Memoirs work just fine for me. 😂

Given how Mark has written the saga, I can't see Mark ever sending Will to San Diego because he'd be without a family member there. That's kind of why Hawaii also seems to be out. The only options seem to be San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston. The main reason to send Will to Boston is because Harvard is Harvard, and he can be near his little sister and Wade, who Will seems to be close to.
-
Now I kinda want Travis to end up acting on a New York City soap opera during the waning years of them. (The last one shut down in 2012.) It would be pretty damn fun to have a soap within a soap. LOL

Mark has been pretty consistent that both Brad and Will have the ability to experiment with drugs without getting dependent on them. So unfortunately for you, no true "Just Say No" moments like what they did on Knots Landing in the 80's, at least in regards to Brad and Will. I feel like Mark does get a lot of shit from readers about the drug use and how the characters need to be "punished" or whatever by becoming addicted, but the truth is that Mark grew up during the 1970's and early 80's when drug use was pretty high, and he partook, and things generally turned out fine for him. Probably because Mark is one of the luckier guys for whom drug addiction does not run in his family line. Therefore I get why he writes Will this way, and why he's not going to have Will turn into some stark raving mad drug addict either. I don't think it's unrealistic, at all. Again, Mark has been very consistent that both Will and his father are able to experiment with drug use but don't become dependent on them because they don't have a genetic predisposition towards drug addiction. I would be waaaaaaayyyy more worried about JJ if he started trying drugs because of his (bio) family history. Good thing JJ's such a goody two shoes.

I can see Mark skipping over the years 2012 until we land in 2016, which feels like the right time for Gen Z to take over.

Faces for Mark's Stories

I just remembered that it was a plot point in Millennium that Robbie becomes a producer for the first movie adaption of Harry Potter. I think we had Will suggesting it, actually. Even if that isn't true, Will probably would have read the book anyway in 2000-2001 given the popularity of it and everybody being excited about the movie adaption. Although I'd see JJ as being more likely a hardcore fan because Mark has consistently written JJ as being a bit of a dork. LOL Alisdar? Toooottttallly into Harry Potter. -
For what it's worth, I don't think Private Tim meant to insult you. He's a lawyer and I think cross-examining is his general default. You stated yourself as being wealthy and Private Tim was saying, "No, you aren't- here's why."

It would have been funnier if he was reading Twilight. LOL -

Another of Jacob Elordi...I can totally pretend this is Will after a night of debauchery. LOL It's for a movie he's doing called Saltburn, where he plays an aristocratic spoiled rich boy in 2006 England. Rosamund Pike plays his mother, and I was thinking, "You know, this could work for Claire." She does that haughty, nose-in-the-air beauty type well. -
Epilogue - Chapter 1
methodwriter85 commented on Mark Arbour's story chapter in Epilogue - Chapter 1
Okay, you have a point. I went to a performing arts high school during the early 2000's when eating disorders were pretty rampant. I think we all just kinda internalized the behavior so it seemed normal and learned to not react whenever we heard someone vomiting in the bathroom. We did put JJ into an environment where the pressure to look good is insane, so it does make sense that JJ would be freaking out about gaining 5 pounds.
