Mark's written these characters as being very sexual and willing to go outside their comfort zones so it makes sense that nobody is perfectly gay or perfectly straight. (Except Ace and John Walsh of Fraternity Memoirs eventually identified himself as gay, but he did still find women attractive. I think this is supposed to be a reflection of what a stellar public education system northern California had during the 70's. Mark is from that area and I'm assuming that at the time this story takes place, it was pretty common for ultra-rich kids to attend public schools, especially in uber wealthy areas that were fresh, shiny new enclaves of wealth.

Because he knew on some level that Greg liked being a manly man next to a feminine dude so he molded himself towards that. I do remember it used to be pretty commonplace to see same-sex relationships in the media depicted as still having a heteronormative undertone where one partner was "masculine" and the other one was "feminine" and I think Stefan is molding himself into that. You two are contemporaries- I think Adam's about two years younger than you so you both could have attended high school together. I was in his Yahoo group as well as the many iterations of it that he had. He would have these meltdowns, delete the group, and then start the group again. He did this all the way up to about 2018 when he quit his online persona for good. I think after Adam finally finished Crosscurrents in 2013, he struggled to find a reason to maintain his online persona. He did try to start other books but he couldn't quite bring himself to actually do it once his love letter to "Matt" was finished. It's kind of amazing that Mark is still going at this for counting on 15 years. (He started publishing CAP in the spring/summer of 2008.)

Adam's reaction was based in part because he really loved Jeff Hayes, and he thought the way he got used and thrown away by JP was pretty callous. Of course if you have ever followed Adam's stories and his postings when he had an active discussion group, if he tells a person he loves them, it's not something Adam takes lightly and he'll try to hold on to that relationship as much as possible. So this was the chapter that got me involved with Chronicles of a Academic Predator. I am from Delaware, and I noticed the line in the previous chapter about the characters going to Delaware, and then I remembered that they would have been going just right after the Ash Wednesday storm. I emailed Mark about it, and here we are 15 years later. LOL Been a blast, Mark. Another fun bit is that Rehoboth Beach has had a long LGBT history behind it, which made this a pretty neat location for Mark to have picked.
