Eh, I think Matt is pretty good but he's only a Hayes by blood. Otherwise he's a Carrswold.

Chapter 14: Marcel -When they get settled in France. "St. Elmo's Fire" (Man in Motion) by John Parr -When Mouse insists that Billy is still alive, and Brad thinks he's gone crazy but accompanies him to the restaurant anyway. "Flesh for Fantasy" by Billy Idol -When the gang meets Marcel, a 16-year old French boy who looks like the spitting image of Jeff. "Vienna" by Ultravox -When JP confronts Marcel's mother about her having prostituted herself to Jeff back in 1968. "Angel of the Morning" by Merilee Rush
-
Chapter 13: Claire's Wedding -When they fly to Paris. "Holiday Road" by Lindsey Buckingham -When Brad and Robbie meet again with his therapist, who assures Robbie that he'll be okay. "How Soon Is Now?" by the Smiths -For Jack's bachelor party. "We Need A Lover" (Tonight) by Motley Crue Once grunge happened, you never saw rock like this again. -For Jack and Claire's wedding. "Crazy for You" by Madonna You guys didn't actually think I'd use "White Wedding", did you? Too predictable, and if you actually listen to the lyrics, it's about a brother being completely disapproving of the guy his sister is marrying. So it didn't fit. "Crazy for You" reminds me so much of the 80's...man it was a standard wit us kids back in the eighties. Edited to add in 2023: I was 23 when I wrote that and my god I'm cringing. No wonder Adam found me so annoying. LMAO And for those of you that don't remember this tune...well. I hoped you guys liked it. Madonna really could knock things out of the ballpark back in the 80's. -When Brad hears about just how badly Bitty is doing, and talks to Robbie about his childhood before JP and his family took him in. "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" by The Smiths
-
Chapter 12: A Pregnancy -When they screen "Back to The Future", and everyone's pleased that it'll probably be a big hit. "Back in Time" by Huey Lewis and the News I gotta take this moment and say...I am a HUGE sucker for time travel films, particularly "Back to the Future". When I was a little kid I used to try and recreate the scene where Marty gets back to 1985 when lighting hits the clock tower using blocks and my toy cars. Usually when I tell people I was born in '85, they go, "Wow, that's the Back to the Future year!" Shades of just how huge this movie was/still is. (2023: I don't really get that anymore. Now I just get told how old I am. LMAO) -When Brad and Robbie run into Max and Lark. Then Brad and Max talk about how much it sucks for Max to be into a guy who can't admit he likes guys. "Long Hot Summer" by The Style Council - For 4th of July weekend at Claremont. "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen - When they leave Claremont, taking Darius on his first plane ride. "I'm Free" (Heaven Helps the Man) by Kenny Loggins -When Brad and Bitty talk about her new baby to be born in February 1986, and she refuses to say who the father is. "Pretty in Pink" by The Psychedelic Fur (1981 version)

Faces for Mark's Stories

That's the fun part about being able to go back. Neither of these guys were known in 2009 when I was doing my original fancasts. LOL Also, the leather bomber jacket on my "Ace" guy just feels very mid-1980's. LOL -

Since we're re-doing Man In Motion.... Cody Fern with blond hair as Max: Taylor Zakhar Perez as Ace: -
Yes, I remember posting a video a Youtuber did on Hawthorne. The area isn't good which is this place hasn't gotten demolished and rebuilt yet. I have a soft spot for The Sherman Oaks Galleria (aka the Fast Times at Ridgemont High mall), which was converted into other uses in 1999. I believe the Westwood Mall (famous for Terminator 2) is being turned into an office complex, Puente Hills (Back to the Future mall) is struggling really hard. There's also this really cool Korean mall that got bought up and probably will get turned into fancy condos or something.
-
Did the Capitola Mall completely die, or no? I remember coming across that mall from videos shot by the dead mall enthusiast community.

Mark's official fancast for Elizabeth Danfield is Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada:

Mark has said that a lot of the tension and conflict comes from Will having precocious puberty that made him physically look about 4-5 years older than he actually is. There's a pretty interesting article on the Cut by a writer named Patrick Burleigh, who suffers from an inherited family trait of precocious male puberty. It was a bit more extreme than Will's (fictional) case, but you can see a lot of the parallels. In all likelihood Will probably started undergoing puberty around the age of 8, hence him feeling more like a 19-year old at the age of 14. I imagine once Will is 20 and his peers have caught up to him, he'll be alright.
-
You don't have faith in Will's ability to evolve?

Cody and Jeanine conceived Maddie Graves together, while Wade and Tiffany conceived Riley Danfield. Tiffany and Jeanine wanted to have kids so they had an orgy with some of the lead characters. Maddie and Riley are being raised as essentially twins by Tiffany, Wade, and Matt in Boston, along with Matt's son Bobbie who he had with Tiffany. Tiffany being pregnant with Bobbie was the catalyst for JJ moving from Boston to New York City, as she announced her intention to retire from coaching JJ at the same time JJ won the 2003 National Ice Figure Skating Championship. JJ then broke his leg doing a quadruple jump to try and impress a new figure skating coach, and after his injury JJ decided he was done. I think maybe if Tiffany hadn't been pregnant with Bobbie JJ might have tried for a comeback, but he's decided to finish up high school at St. Ann's School in Brooklyn and then going into world of fashion consulting.

Someone once tried to do a full family tree but gave up because it was just too much. Cody became a family friend in If It Fits, a Stefan book set in 1995. He ended that book dating Brian Parnell, who was discovered to be JP's biological paternal half-brother. I think Cody also dated JP in that book? I think his only relative in this series is Maddie Graves, his daughter with Jeanine that was conceived during an orgy with Tiffany, Brad, Robbie, and Jeanine. Maddie is currently 3.

Chapter 76 -When Travis comes out to his friends. "YMCA" by The Village People My favorite memory of this song is when I had my senior prom and a bunch of guys came out and did a dance to this. LOL God, I love that I went to a performing arts high school. -
Your cynicism gives me life. No wonder you're suspicious of Travis.

They changed with the format change. Mark started posting CAP in July/August 2008. Mark and I knew each other from one of the many iterations of Adam Phillip's online groups. From about 2003 until 2018-ish Adam would hold online discussion groups. It started out as a discussion group for John Walsh's Fraternity Memoirs, but after John Walsh had a breakdown, Adam took the reigns. Adam was a very spirited young man who had a pattern of having meltdowns and then nuking the discussion groups, and then starting over in a new one. Until about 5 years ago when Adam finally decided to say good-bye to us one final time. Personally I kind of felt like Adam wanted us around because he wanted an audience for his story Cross-Currents, but after he finally finished, he struggled to stay interested in interacting with his fans especially because he just wasn't able to start new novels. Holy crap though it's been 20 years since I started reading Fraternity Memoirs. Oh my god, I was 17. LOL
-
Exactly. When the focus inevitably shifts to the Gen Z characters like Riley Danfield and Bobbie Carrswold I'm assuming Mark will find other ways of drama because holy crap that generation is very much past the closeted queer archtype.
-
Man, it's kind of sad to read this exchange between Will and Robbie.
-
Hey, Will gets better. He's much more likeable in The Streak and Black Widow. I did remember there was one point in the next story where I desperately wanted Mark to have Brad ship Will off to wilderness camp in Colorado for a few weeks to get an attitude adjustment but Mark didn't see the need. lol
-
Wow, this comment aged horribly. LOL
-
I mean, I'm sure he's part of it, but he's a pretty low-key guy and I can see him being on the periphery.

Chapter 11: AIDS -When Claire talks to Brad about announcing her engagement at dinner, and then deduces that her father is positive. "Secret" by OMD -When JP announces he's positive, Mouse announces he's positive as well, and then Claire announces her engagement to Jack. "I'm Still Standing" by Elton John -After the emotionally taxing week, Brad accepts Jack's offer to be best man, and sits down with Isidore, Frank, Robbie, Stefan, and JP to smoke a joint. "Pass the Dutchie" by Musical Youth -When Brad surfs in Santa Cruz, and then talks to Robbie about the state of their relationship. "Echo Beach" by Martha and the Muffins -When Brad and Robbie visit his shrink. "Pearly Dew Dewdrop Drops" by the Cocteau Twins

Being 37 I just find myself looking back at my teen years and early 20's and just cringing. Ugh.
-

"Atmosphere" by Joy Division -For when they go to the hospital to visit a dying Roger, where JP also finds out that he is positive. "Mad World" by Tears for Fears -When Roger's ashes are buried, and the family celebrates his life. "The Wind" by Cat Stevens -When JP decides to accompany Brad and Robbie to Paris for a semester. "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" by Nik Kershaw -When Brad and Robbie have sex at the end of the chapter. "Space Age Love Song" by Flock of Seagalls

"Like A Virgin" by Madonna -When Brad gets to catch up with his Claremont relatives, and watches Pastor Crazy in action. "Pink Houses" by John Mellencamp -When Brad learns about Darius, sticks up for him, and he and Bitty just might have finally reconciled. "People Are People" by Depeche Mode -When Brad learns about why Bitty looks so terrible and likes being around East Claremont. "West End Girls" by Pet Shop Girls -When Brad and Robbie visit St. Louis but decide to enjoy each other first. "I Can't Go For That" (No Can Do) by Hall & Oates -When Brad and Robbie watch as Sam cheats on his wife with Jake in the garage. "Lover Girl" by Tina Marie
