  1. Father, Daughters Traced to Nicaragua I don't care if you think your wife is a heinous bitch, but telling your kids that their mommy committed suicide? When they were 2 to 4 years old? Absolutely reprehensible. I know that custody battles are awful to deal with, but spiriting a kid away to a foreign country is not the way to solve it. I hope they throw the book at this guy. The best part about this is the fact that they were found after a year and a half, and the mother still gets to see her kids grow up. I've heard of similar parental abduction cases where the kids weren't found until they were teenagers or in their twenties. Of course, that doesn't make up for the year and a half she lost, but it might make it easier to heal from the experience, than were this ten or twenty years later. I guess for me, this article resonates because my own sister was/is involved with a bitter custody dispute with her ex-boyfriend over their daughter, and I had no problem imagining him kidnapping my niece just to spite my sister. He's that crazy. We still refuse to let him have unsupervised visits with her for that very reason.
  2. Chapter 19: JJ -When JP tells Brad that Mouse doesn't want a second chance, and Brad comforts him by reminding him of Roger. "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues" by Elton John -When Brad and Robbie nearly get into a fight when they talk about their plans for next year, but Brad backs out of it before it happens. "Age of Consent" by New Order -When Brad talks to Marcel about Lou and essentially tries to set them up. "The State of the Heart" by Rick Springfield -When Brad confronts Robbie about his bitchy behavior, and then finds out Bitty gave birth to a baby boy that Saturday. "Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats -When Brad meets Lou, and drops some serious dough on the guy at the clothing store. "Sharp-Dressed Man" by ZZ Top -When JP finds out about Mouse and Marcel, and JP tells Marcel about our good buddy Jake, who's dying of AIDS in a hospital and has no visitors because of the selfish way he treated people. "All By Myself" by Eric Carmen -When Brad catches JP and Marcel having sex, and talks to him about Mouse. "Only The Lonely" by The Motels
  4. Tonight I watched this presentation where two former frat guys talked about their experiences as being gay men in a 'world of heterosexual privilege". It was pretty cool. One thing that got me was hearing one man talk about how, as the director of Greek Life in the early 90's, he made the decision to come out as a gay man because of one frat president who denounced "fags" at a rush meeting, when in reality said frat president was the boyfriend of another frat president. He realized at that point for the good of his students and to set an example, he had to come out. And I thought that was pretty cool. Anyone ever know what it's like to walk that road, being queer in a world that's as highly masculine as fraternity?
  5. Chapter 17: The Louvre -When Marcel admits what he did, and Brad and Robbie lay some ground rules about how they will deal with Marcel. Before having sex. "It Ain't What You Do( It's The Way That You Do It) by Fun Boy Three with Bananarama -When Brad gets really lit, has sex with what he thinks is Robbie, and gets confused when Robbie comes in and seems really pissed off. "Eyes Without A Face" by Billy Idol *** Can I just take a moment and say...DAYUM, Billy Idol had one amazing face circa 1984! So beautiful and expressive, yet also cruel and tough. Absolutely fascinating. Whoever came up with the concept for the "Eyes Without A Face" video was a genius, capitalizing on the utter photogenic face of Billy.
  8. I don't normally advocate violence, but god I wish someone had taken a baseball bat to Neal's head. My sister got stalked by an ex-boyfriend for about a year- he stopped, but god that was some of the scariest crap my family ever's gone through. I couldn't imagine dealing with it for a decade or so like Sam did. And "RipTide"...hmm. Sounds like a good story.
  9. I'm glad you liked their music, dude. Anyways, this weekend was fun. I hit up a rager over at SkidRow, which had this decent d.j. Then after the keg got kicked, I hung out with my freshman buddy Ian, and his friends, at their dorm until 4 a.m. in the morning. It was pretty cool. This is a song that played Friday night at the rager, and never fails to bring a smile to my face. "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXVRlB_As9M

  11. I need to process this for a moment. Anyways, Connor, you make a great point about what was going on with his mother...interesting.
  12. So, Mark. That was TOTALLY biographical, wasn't it? ;-)

  14. Yeah. It's just very, very, very hard to find "Please, Please, Please" on Youtube. I ended up having to use that live version.
  15. "Edge of A Broken Heart" by Vixen (1989) I can't believe I could have been so blind but love is strange I thought about it for a long long time but the truth remains I don't need another lonely night to dry my tears The answer's plain as black & white and I can see the picture very clear I've been living on the edge of a broken heart I won't fall, I won't crawl I've been living on the edge of a broken heart Don't you wonder why i gotta say goodbye It is the fact you didn't have the chance to change your tune Did you think that I'm a dime a dance when the dance is rude I've been ruining things for way too long but baby that's over (baby that's over) It won't be easy but I gotta be strong and if I wanna cry I don't need your shoulder I've been living on the edge of a broken heart I won't fall, I won't crawl I've been living on the edge of a broken heart Don't you wonder why I gotta say goodbye I'll find someone else Whose nothing like you But you can play that game as well and your gonna be sorry baby when it's over I've been ruining things for way too long but baby that's over (baby that's over) It won't be easy but I gotta be strong and if i wanna cry i don't need your shoulder I've been living on the edge of a broken heart I won't fall, I won't crawl I've been living on the edge of a broken heart Don't you wonder why i gotta say goodbye I've been living on the edge of a broken heart I've been living on the edge of a broken heart Don't you wonder why i gotta say goodbye I've been living on the edge of a broken heart
  16. Chapter 13: Claire's Wedding -When they fly to Paris. "Holiday Road" by Lindsey Buckingham -When Brad and Robbie meet again with his therapist, who assures Robbie that he'll be okay. "How Soon Is Now?" by the Smiths -For Jack's bachelor party. "We Need A Lover" (Tonight) by Motley Crue Once grunge happened, you never saw rock like this again. -For Jack and Claire's wedding. "Crazy for You" by Madonna You guys didn't actually think I'd use "White Wedding", did you? Too predictable, and if you actually listen to the lyrics, it's about a brother being completely disapproving of the guy his sister is marrying. So it didn't fit. "Crazy for You" reminds me so much of the 80's...man it was a standard wit us kids back in the eighties. And for those of you that don't remember this tune...well. I hoped you guys liked it. Madonna really could knock things out of the ballpark back in the 80's. -When Brad hears about just how badly Bitty is doing, and talks to Robbie about his childhood before JP and his family took him in. "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" by The Smiths
  17. I'm guessing that it's the hard livin' life of a hockey player that makes Levi Johnston look old. Bristol does have big boobs, but man...her face just doesn't have that China Doll quality that Sarah has. Oh, well. And you guys know I was being firmly tongue-in-cheek, right? ;-)
  18. Now I'm just shocked, SHOCKED, that it didn't work out between our favorite teenage mom and dad. http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-gener.../Bristol.Palin/ I wonder if Sarah Palin will try and fix up her daughter with another man and get her married off so she's not a "dreaded" single mother by 2012.
  19. Chapter 12: A Pregnancy -When they screen "Back to The Future", and everyone's pleased that it'll probably be a big hit. "Back in Time" by Huey Lewis and the News I gotta take this moment and say...I am a HUGE sucker for time travel films, particularly "Back to the Future". When I was a little kid I used to try and recreate the scene where Marty gets back to 1985 when lighting hits the clock tower using blocks and my toy cars. Usually when I tell people I was born in '85, they go, "Wow, that's the Back to the Future year!" Shades of just how huge this movie was/still is. (2023: I don't really get that anymore. Now I just get told how old I am. LMAO) -When Brad and Robbie run into Max and Lark. Then Brad and Max talk about how much it sucks for Max to be into a guy who can't admit he likes guys. "Long Hot Summer" by The Style Council - For 4th of July weekend at Claremont. "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen - When they leave Claremont, taking Darius on his first plane ride. "I'm Free" (Heaven Helps the Man) by Kenny Loggins -When Brad and Bitty talk about her new baby to be born in February 1986, and she refuses to say who the father is. "Pretty in Pink" by The Psychedelic Fur (1981 version)
  20. Chapter 11: AIDS -When Claire talks to Brad about announcing her engagement at dinner, and then deduces that her father is positive. "Secret" by OMD -When JP announces he's positive, Mouse announces he's positive as well, and then Claire announces her engagement to Jack. "I'm Still Standing" by Elton John -After the emotionally taxing week, Brad accepts Jack's offer to be best man, and sits down with Isidore, Frank, Robbie, Stefan, and JP to smoke a joint. "Pass the Dutchie" by Musical Youth -When Brad surfs in Santa Cruz, and then talks to Robbie about the state of their relationship. "Echo Beach" by Martha and the Muffins -When Brad and Robbie visit his shrink. "Pearly Dew Dewdrop Drop" by the Cocteau Twins
  21. I'm reading Madame Bovary for class right now. It's not bad, and I like the style and find it easy to read, but it's pretty depressing in how dead-on in its assertion is about just how unbelievably shallow and image-concious most people are. They want the fairy tale, and get pissed when it doesn't happen. Or they self-delude themselves into thinking they are living the fairy tale. It's pretty sad how right Flaubert is about the social mores of the aspiring middle classes.
  22. Chapter 10: Home At Last -When Brad comforts Stefan and JP about Roger and the overall devastation that AIDS is taking on their group. "Atmosphere" by Joy Division -For when they go to the hospital to visit a dying Roger, where JP also finds out that he is positive. "Mad World" by Tears for Fears -When Roger's ashes are buried, and the family celebrates his life. "The Wind" by Cat Stevens -When JP decides to accompany Brad and Robbie to Paris for a semester. "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" by Nik Kershaw -When Brad and Robbie have sex at the end of the chapter. "Space Age Love Song" by Flock of Seagalls
  23. Chapter 9: Darius -When Brad and Robbie roadtrip to Califronia, stopping in Claremont. "Da Da Da" by Trio -When Brad and Robbie have sex at Grandmaman's house. "Like A Virgin" by Madonna -When Brad gets to catch up with his Claremont relatives, and watches Pastor Crazy in action. "Pink Houses" by John Mellencamp -When Brad learns about Darius, sticks up for him, and he and Bitty just might have finally reconciled. "People Are People" by Depeche Mode -When Brad learns about why Bitty looks so terrible and likes being around East Claremont. "West End Girls" by Pet Shop Girls -When Brad and Robbie visit St. Louis but decide to enjoy each other first. "I Can't Go For That" (No Can Do)  by Hall & Oates -When Brad and Robbie watch as Sam cheats on his wife with Jake in the garage. "Lover Girl" by Tina Marie
  24. So last night I again hit up the UD Swing Dance at my school, and hung out with my friend Steve at Buffalo Wild Wings. Pretty fun. Later on, we just went back to his dorm, hung out with his friends, smoked a j, and shooted the breeze until I finally left to drive home at 5:30 a.m. in the morning...lol. Late night, but not too wild of one, actually. He's an RA, so I get to talk to his residents. There was this one really hot lacrosse guy I kept drooling over...man, I wish I had somehow been able to get that guy alone. LOL. And today I did my GRE practice test. Man. Not fun. Tonight I'm thinking about trying to look for a rager. I might call up one of my friend's freshmen residents and try and find one, lol. Could be fun. What about you guys?
  25. I'm going to go ahead and start re-posting the music selections that I posted in the orginal B. Rad thread before we got to Chapter 36. Enjoy. This also gives me a chance to re-do some links, which got pulled down by the evil dudes at WMG. I might have to replace a few if I can't find it on YouTube. Chapter 1 -Brad and Lark go "coastal". "California Sun" by the Ramones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxAZw8pFG20 Chapter 2 -Party scene. "Heartache Tonight" by the Eagles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KnWazzc18U Chapter 3 -At Greg and Stefan's party. "Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0PamtXZO70 Chapter 4 -When Brad gets screwed over by Doug. "Boys Don't Cry" by The Cure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ7QRNG4gEY Chapter 5 -Brad getting his revenge on Doug at the party. "Enola Gay" by OMD Chapter 6 -When Brad and Jake get together. "He's So Shy" by the Pointer Sisters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUgxRnmuypQ In retrospect, this song was completely wrong as a Jake dedication, but I guess it goes to show you how first impressions can be deceiving. Chapter 7 -When Brad and Lark get together. "Rise" by Herb Alpert
