For all of the work in trying to keep it secret, I would have to think that someone would be wise to them, not just Wilcox and his guessing... On a ship like that, I would think anything happening without someone knowing would be a miracle. Have to wonder what the story with Robey is; you know there is more to it than what is being told. Great chapter.

Well, Granger made a conquest in Iggy and then played the knight on a white horse to the men in danger. Granger is quick witted, brave, smart, and LUCKY... This will serve him well...
-
Well, Granger certainly comes across at the scion of a well to do family. I have to admit he is almost too polished for his age but he pulls it off. I can't wait to see how he handles Iggy, you just know that Granger will end up on top...
-
Well, you can tell already after one chapter who Granger is going to have problems with and who he will end up with at least in some manner. Wilcox is going to cause problems, have to wonder why he took an instant dislike to Granger, and Travers is going to be who Granger ends up caring about. I can see a few others in the work and of course, the Captain is all powerful, but he does seem to be interesting at least...

I love British history, especially from the last 1400's to early 1800's so this fits in my area perfectly. I can't wait to see how the blend of naval and court life both play out. There were quite a few quirks in the British navy and it's traditions, I love that you have taken time to pick at least some of them up...

I had to take off yesterday before I got to the forum. I really enjoyed this chapter. I thought the fighting and destruction on the ships were so well written and really put us all in the middle of the battle. Everytime we meet someone and they die quickly; I end up thinking, what would this person have added to the story down the line... My understanding of the situation is the same as Mark; officers or nobility were often released quite quickly in relation to the ordinary sailor. In this case, the officers were released post haste but the sailors were actually forced to help repair the ships, which was against the norm of the day; and did not get released until freed by a Russian naval force that went into battle against the French and defeated them at Corfu in 1799. Just a note, Santa Clarita is in the Atlantic and no where near where Granger is at this time. There would be no reason for that ship to enter into the Mediterranean Sea. The HMS Mutine actually was the second ship sent to carry the news of the British victory at the Battle of the NIle and it arrived first with the news. Berry and Thompson both actually were rewarded because of how well they fought and both were given additional commands. Some historians have argued that had Thompson mainted the sails as they cleared the island, that he would have been able to outrun the ship. However, no one would ever be able to really prove this so who knows.... Outstanding chapter, Mark... I can't wait for Granger to get on his way. I bet that gold does come in handy however, I wonder if that was Winkler or Granger's idea???

I don't know; I have trouble seeing Marie as really delusional. I think she really believes she is justifyed in her actions for whatever reason; she is actually a lot like Brad was in Be Rad just more extreme. I think she knows what she is doing is wrong, she just feels that the situation warrants it. Don't forget, Brad was willing to ruin his best friend to save his reputation in Be Rad

Yea, as we get closer to that day; I can't wait and yet dread each coming chapter. That day really shook me because when it happened, I just knew what was coming... To some extent for any generation to young to really remember Pearl Harbour; this became our day of infamy...

Five Years of Writing: Reflections

Congrats to Mark on having three stories in the top ten most reviewed on this site; 9/11 just checked in today as number 10. Well, today was the first day that I noticed it... LOL... -
This was considered a great victory by the French, it was blown up a bit after the disaster of the Nile defeat, but in reality the French ship had more than twice the firepower of the British ship and the odds were long against any victory by the British. We haven't seen it yet, but the behaviour of the French crew and captain after this battle is considered by many to be on the par with the lowest of the low...

I really like the Hornblower series but think one made from the Bridgemont series would be even better... Maybe get Showtime or HBO to put it on; I guess PBS might if Channel 4 in England would do the original and replay it on PBS...

Five Years of Writing: Reflections

I recently realized that almost none of the early stories in the CAP series have any reviews. I started with the first and just finished going through Be Rad adding one for each chapter. Most of them have just been a couple of sentences but I really think that stories a great as these truly deserve to have reviews on each chapter. I know there are others like me that have gone through and re-read the stories more than once, I wish people would think about adding reviews to those stories that we have all read and loved already... I really don't remember a chapter review button when I started reading the story on this site... -
I must be sort of weird too, I checked and I actually have a couple of emails from a guy I was dating in 1998... One is a poen he wrote me and the other a long winding email he sent a few days before he was killed in an accident... I just have them saved in a folder that is backed up online and at an offsite facility... No jokes about seeing a therapist; I know it is a little strange but I just can't seem to delete them...

What Happens Next In CAP?

I could totally see Wade pulling a JFK Jr. route with the public defenders office. He doesn't need the money plus, Wade actually seems to really want to help others... Plus, I would not mind a few tie ins with Father Tim and the mission either... -
Okay, I actually had to calm down after reading the chapter before I posted anything on here... I just do not understand Marie at all. The ethical, moral, and even legal issues in doing what it appears they did are significant. If they did plot to get Will infected with a STD; it is just not possible to in any remote way justify that action. I just honestly do not even know where to start on this issue... If Marie did what Will knows that Ferris and Kyle tried to do; then she needs to be removed from the family and into a boarding school or military academy with a really strong theraputic tie in. I truly cannot imagine anything this bad happening in this family... Claire and Jack have obviously really moved to crack down on Marie but it doesn't appear to have done any good; as we could tell by the phone in the purse... I did love how straight faced Will told Marie, your purse is vibrating... John appears to be firmly back in Will's corner and Claire and Jack both seem to understand that Marie has to be brought into line... I keep wondering what percipitated this complete 180 in attitude and behaviour from the first few times we saw Marie. I thought Will really handled everything the first day really well. He was able to keep his temper in check and even used his wit at just the right moments as well. I am not sure that Mr Sessions having a talk with Ferris will break him, gay boys tend to be made of sterner stuff but that being said, Ferris may not like that Will and at least one adult is on to him... Well, I do wonder who had the gift for Kai's dad set up; you know it had to be JP, Stef, Brad, or Robbie... It sounds more like JP or Stef although I could see Brad doing it as well, I imagine we will find out. It is almost nice to have all this teen drama going on before the real trauma hits for everyone. If JP has to get involved in this teen tempest in a teapot; everyone may have wished that they had all behaved better to start with... Exceptional work the last few chapters from Mark and his team...

Two really great songs for this chapter, both strike just the perfect cord...

WTF!!! That is too far for anyone to go. If Marie did that then there is nothing else that can be done. She needs to be removed for everyone's safety. A very strict boarding school or military academy. I don't care what the issue is; you do not under any circumstances purposely give someone a STD. This is actually approaching a legal matter. I know that Will would never take it that far but damn.... I am glad to see that John has moved firmly behind Will and really glad that Claire and Jack have obviously moved to do more than just crack down on Marie... I did love the line when Will advised Claire that her purse was vibrating... Great chapter and can't wait to see where this is going...

Those of us that lived through the early years of AIDS recognize the fear and terror that they all felt. Those that had the disease were so villified that it was almost scary... Even several years later, in the late 80's, I remember how horrified people were when my mother danced with a man in our small town in Texas that was openly gay and dying of AIDS. Everyone knew he was sick but my mother had always loved to dance with him and he looked so sad watching others dance; so she asked him to dance a waltz... He was so weak that she had to almost hold him up for the last third of the dance but it made him so happy... So many people were freaked completely out that she had touched him and I remember her looking at them and telling them they were all idiots... Great story, Mark the writing and plotting was just excellent... You and your crew have created something really special.
-
The start of AIDS, no one really knew the first couple of years how it was spread or why some got it and others didn't... The fear in both the gay and general population really shaped the next couple of years... If you lived it, you never forgot it, and if you did not you could never understand it...

The paiting and the sculpture were just perfect for JP. He, Stef, and Isidore can all look back at Jeff and see the good now and feel the sadness of loss without the totality of the guilt becoming to much... I loved the idea of Orgasmic Stef... This family is special, not just those of blood but those of choice...
-
Drama, Drama, Drama; my god to be a teenager again would not be worth it no matter what... The writing just keeps getting better and better; Mark and those helping him are doing such a damn good job...
-
Much like JP before him, Brad has absorbed the lessons of Tonto and the elders in how to deal with life and tragedy. It is a shame that so many in reality have choosen to ignore the lessons that they could learn as well... Mark, even after reading this for the fifth or sixth time; I bawled like a baby throughout this chapter...
-
Losing a sibling can be among the hardest things for a person to go through; it is just that much worse when you are fighting and can't resolve the issues before death does. Brad and the others will have to come to terms with this or it can haunt them forever... Isidore is going to need the others maybe more than they need her; but in the end this family will come together and survive... Billy's death is some ways parrots Jeff's but I don't know if I could handle another one like this...
-
You know, a the right party can fix just about anything... LOL... I really do feel that the writing and plotting for the last few chapter have just been spot on; it is really great how Mark is able to get into the mind of an 18 y/o in the social whirl that Brad is in... He either lived it, at least in part, or has done some really good research...

You have to pick your battles but sometimes the cost can be unbelievably high. Sometimes for no reason that anyone can explain; a child can be damaged for no obvious reason and nothing can be done to help them. I have to wonder about Billy, he really has been given a perfect life and except for Sam leaving never seemed to face any real problems; what switch flipped that caused her current level of issues...
