    Abomination

When spring semester started after Christmas Break, Scotty and Brian joined Coach T's class. I felt a lot better having Scotty close by where I could keep an eye on him. Foster and Steven welcomed the newcomers with open arms. Having us in the class actually helped Coach T. We had all come from Group 1 classes and could easily handle our work. We ended up helping our other classmates study. By the end of the first six weeks, everybody in Coach T's class had improved by a full grade point. Alt
  3. New Years was a good time. Brian got one of his friends to get us some cheap wine. We spent forty bucks and got an ounce of weed. One dude was selling ludes for a dollar fifty a piece but the guy was just too shifty. Brian didn't trust him and I was skeptical about pills in general. Some dude tried to sell us some mushrooms but Brian wasn't buying. He said never buy shroons or do them unless you picked them yourself. Besides, with all the pasture land up near Clark's Pond, we didn't need to spen
  4. I can't even begin to answer that! It's almost always what I'm reading right now! I've read a ton of stuff- there is quite a lot of it that good for all sorts of different reasons. Some stories are important because they are socially significant in some way. Some are great because they are beautifully crafted. With others, you fall in love with the characters. Then there are those that take you on an adventure or are just plain fun. The what is your favorite author and story question is too limited in perspective. A better question might be what are you in the mood for?

    Collateral Damage

After Christmas Scotty's family piled into their station wagon for a New Year's trip to Tupelo. I hung out with Big John as much as I could without making a pest of myself. Thursday morning Big John and my Dad went to play golf and my Mom took my Grandmother shopping so I had a little time for myself. I decided to hit the trails and see just how high the new bike would jump. I packed a few goodies away in my backpack, locked up the house and hit the trails. My favori
  6. Down here in Mississippi, Sheriff's deputies tend to be the elected sheriff's worthless in-laws. They aren't very bright, tend to be bullies and are about as progressive as George Wallace.

There's some dark and disturbing parts- much of it is NOT pretty. When I first posted it, someone emailed me that "Wow- you were really disturbed". No. You think? Yeah- we were messed up but blaming us for it was like blaming a pinata for getting hit with a stick.
  8. Put on your seatbelt. It's going to be a dangerous and disturbing ride. I barely survived it myself.
  9. Yeah- this isn't your basic happy happy, joy joy coming out story. This is about how screwed up it can be and the consequences.

If this happened today, I have no doubt that parents involved would call attorneys and "release the hounds". Rainer and the local Scout organization REALLY deserved it. Back then they were shocked and embarrassed and didn't want anyone to know what happened. There's a reason why lots of organizations like to carry on their activities in the dark- they call it confidential for YOUR protection. That's not it at all. It is for THEIR protection.

You nailed it: that's exactly why I wrote it. I wrote it so people would know what happened so it won't happen again.

    Sandman and Viking

There was one good thing about our folks not speaking to each other. Scotty and I were able to pull off many things that had they been comparing notes, we would have never gotten away with. Citizens band radios were something of a fad at the time. We struck upon the idea of asking our folks for a hand-held 40 channel CB radios that Radio Shack had on sale. That Christmas was difficult. It was the first holiday since we had been separated. Even though we were talking again, his presen
  13. >>James, what are you looking for? GLBT peoples experiences with the cops. For instance, I got pulled over and asked to explain my HRC bumper sticker. My truck was searched and everything I owned tossed on the side of the road. After a little over an hour they gave up and left threatening me with a citation for littering if I didn't pick that shit up. This was fairly recent- 2012 I think. It's pointless to complain. All that will get is retaliation. I was wondering if this was just redneck Mississippi cops or if they acted this way all over.
  14. I'm curious to hear from our community: Have you ever been on the wrong end of police misconduct? Bullying, Harassment- that sort of thing? I'm considering a story that involves it and I would like to hear your experiences. If you aren't comfortable replying here, please PM me.

    A New Ally

There is an axiom of war that I had never heard: the side that fires the first shot has already lost. I had won the first battle but it was already shaping up to be a long, ugly war. I was kept waiting for a half-hour before I was summoned into Vice-Principle Harry Walther's office. He had me sit down across the desk from him. Coach T was sitting in another chair. There was a file on the desk. This all felt sickeningly familiar. Mr. Walther's ask

    The Rage

1st day of 7th grade, 30 AUG 1975 It was a hot, muggy Mississippi morning - hazy and overcast. I was scared about this new school. After all that had happened this summer, I didn't know what to expect. I had an ominous feeling of dread about the whole thing. I hadn't seen Scotty since my birthday. We had been friends for so long to cut us off like that... We just didn't understand. I was looking forward to seeing him at the bus stop, but he never showed up.

Scotty, Nick and I all returned home from Camp Kellum with enough merit badges and points to advance in rank. There was a Court of Honor on the last weekend of June where all of our Merit Badges and new ranks were awarded. I got the Assistant Patrol Leader badge that I had been waiting for since spring. Afterwards our families all went out to Pizza Hut to celebrate. Scotty and I busied ourselves with the number one priority of summer: money for albums and comic books. We quickly got

    Teenage Wasteland

Reuniting with Scotty had an immediate positive effect on my mood. My parents even commented on it. Sure, we had to sneak around but at least I knew that he didn't hate me. I could smile again. The sullen, angry, disconnected Jimmy of the past few months past slowly faded away. Foster and Steven were delighted. Coach T even noticed. I began to open up more. Over the next few weekends, I spent a good bit of time in the woods with Scotty and working on my trailblazin
  24. It didn't take long for my name to get around. A piece of gossip that juicy doesn't come around all that often. As hard as I tried, I wasn't good at being invisible. Most people my age didn't mess with me. Frankly, they were afraid of me. I had taken three guys down in a manner that left no doubts. The word was out: fucking with the Beast was stupid. That boy is crazy. That didn't stop the upper classmen. The 9th and 10th graders were ruthless. Thankfully, I wasn't around th
