It was lovely to peep inside Kayden's head. Hearbreaking too. Then, as if he hasn't suffered enough, Roman comes along. I agree, that he is now #1 on my hit list, too. Harrison isn't far behind I have to say because although he is the 'kinder' brother his disregard for another living being in such torment, and his overall treatment of Kayden is shocking and unforgivable. The fact that it is a slave/master society is no excuse, when other slaves are treated with at least a modicum of respect. They are all treating Kayden as little more than a dog.
To hear of Kayden's past makes total sense of his current mental condition and it's going to take a lot of gentle handling to get past that. I'm assuming he'll get that from Damien and I sure hope it comes soon.
As horrific as this chapter was, I was riveted. You've done an amazing job of evoking emotion in your readers, and that I think, is what writing is all about. To evoke and emotion - good or bad - is to succeed as a storyteller.
