Two Boys On A Bike - 7. Chapter 7

Part 7

The paramedics attended to the boys at the scene of the crash, the smaller of the two boys having serious complications had to be resuscitated at the site, then with sirens blaring they raced to the hospital. Radioing ahead their ETA (estimated time of arrival).

The emergency room was made aware of the status of the approaching casualties allowing the emergency section to prepare for full readiness.

The boys both unconscious were immediately sent for CT (Computed Tomography) scans of the head to assess for possible brain damage. Post scan they returned to ER for further treatment and testing.

Because James’s mobile hadn’t been damaged in the crash the police and hospital were able to obtain the boys’ identities from his phone and also alert the parents.

Much later the Doctor in charge after obtaining the boys’ identities addressed the parents. First addressing Mr and Mrs King he said, “Surprisingly James is in no immediate danger. He has only suffered a fracture to his left arm and extensive abrasions and bruising to that side of his body, we found no other injuries. Alignment of the fracture and application of partial cast was successful, and all wounds were cleaned and bandaged. Neurologically his CT scan was negative and in the absence of external head trauma we are baffled as to why he has not regained consciousness. Turning to Mr and Mrs Jensen he cleared his throat before saying

“Patrick has been quite heavily concussed and remains unconscious with a large abrasion to the skull, loss of consciousness for even a few seconds paired with physical head trauma can indicate severe brain damage. However, his CT scan shows no abnormalities. A sudden drop in blood pressure in response to the initial head injury is probably what prompted resuscitative measures at the crash site; he quickly stabilized with intravenous fluid and oxygen. Patrick also has a fractured left leg, we can repair the fractured leg and further assess the head wound however of the two boys he has received the most trauma. He is stable now but with evidence of physical injury to the head and continued lack of consciousness the neurological status could quickly change from stable to unstable. We will keep both boys in ICU for continued neurological evaluation and I will alert you to the first sign of change. We are at this moment more concerned for your son Patrick, who besides the broken leg is being observed closely for serious neurological complications, such as cerebral oedema (swelling) or haemorrhage (bleeding) within the brain, which could lead to long standing coma and irreversible brain damage.

Then addressing all the parents he asked? If they would like the hospital councillor to stay with them in case they needed his assistance in anyway. The parents declined the offer. Before leaving the Doctor informed them that as the boys were now warded if they waited a moment an orderly would be along shortly to take them to the ward.

They sped through the heavens marvelling at the wondrous sights and chatting excitedly the smaller of the two boys clinging to his companion like a leech. Suddenly ahead of them in the distance a brilliant white light glowed.

“Make for the light James.”

“You sure Specs?”

“Umm I think so, what do you think.”

“We’ll go wherever you want,” James said, and he headed for the light.

“James.”

“Yeah.”

“You don’t want to go to the light do you?”

“I told you Specs I’ll go wherever you go,” the bike started to slow.

“What’s happening James?”

“No idea the bike just started to slow down on its own.”

“I’m scared.”

“Just hold tight Patrick whatever happens we’re in it together.” Suddenly the bike was falling and they were hurtling ever downward into the darkness.

Patrick screamed, “Jaaaaaaaaames,” and faintly he heard James’s voice answer, “I’m here Patrick.”

The sound of their son’s voices mumbling incoherently was like music to the parent’s ears. Both boys had been placed side by side in the ward and had been unconscious for two days. The doctors were surprised that James had remained unconscious for the same period of time as his friend. His injuries only consisted of a broken arm and severe scraping and bruising to his left hip and leg. They were more concerned about Patrick, who besides the broken leg where they assumed the car had struck him, had been quite severely concussed and was teetering on the brink of coma. Now both boys were conscious and looking at their respective parents. With their awakening there was the usual fuss not only by the medical staff but also by the parents. Later in the day the moment he was able to Patrick asked, “Where’s James?”

His Father, moving to one side so that Patrick could turn his head and see pointed to the bed adjacent to his. He saw James’s parents and sister around the bed and then a face appeared from around Mrs King’s body with a huge grin on it. Lifting his head so that he could get a better view Patrick saw the face and tears came to his eyes as he whispered “James,” then put his head back on the pillows.

James asked his mother to help him out of bed. “You can’t get up yet son, it hasn’t been too long ago since you regained consciousness after two days,”

“Mum please, I’m not that badly injured I need to get up,” his father came round the bed, “Alright son I’ll support you come on,” and between the two of them and taking care of the arm in plaster they got James standing by his bedside. James waited a moment until he had his balance then shuffled over and sat down on the edge of Patrick’s bed. The emotions within him ran riot through his body as he sat looking down on his friend. Reaching out his good arm he gently brushed the hair from Patrick’s eyes then leaning over he whispered in his ear, “Specs, I told you, I wasn’t going anywhere without you,” Patrick looked into James‘s eyes and smiled, safe in knowledge that his special friend was at hand, he closed his eyes and drifted to sleep knowing full well that James would be there if he needed him.

The following day James was allowed home but the doctors kept Patrick in hospital. They weren’t about to let him out till after a further scan to determine that his head injury was healed to their satisfaction and that there was no danger of a relapse to his condition.

James stood by his friend’s bedside taking his hand he said, “I’ll be over to see you later on today Patrick.”

“No James, stay at home you need to rest, I’m okay honest I am, and the doctors should let me out after a few days now that my head isn’t so painful.”

Patrick wasn’t far from wrong. He was allowed home in a wheel chair a week later and asked to come back to the hospital within a couple of weeks for a check-up and also to be supplied and shown how to use crutches.

The first day Patrick returned home and settled in, before he could pick up the phone to call James the doorbell was ringing and Mrs Jensen was there to let James into the house. “Come in James we’ve just got him settled in, how’s the arm?”

“It’s a real nuisance Mrs J. can’t do a thing with this plaster on it, and it itches really badly. One of my mum’s friends told her to buy a knitting needle so that I could put it down the plaster to scratch myself with it.”

“I think I’ll have to do the same for Patrick he’s complaining about parts of his leg itching, now go on up to his room he’s up there being a real grouch.”

James made his way to Patrick’s room, once there he knocked and walked in to see his friend lying on the bed being attended by his father.

The moment he saw his friend he yelled out, “James come over, come on sit down beside me,” and he patted the bed beside him.

Mr Jensen turned and greeted James, “Thank goodness you’re here he’s been driving me crazy to phone you and to ask you to come over. I’ve got him settled, now you can take over and good luck.” Turning to his son he kissed him on the forehead saying, “If either of you need me just shout.”

As he turned to leave, Patrick called, “Dad.”

“Yes son.”

“Love you.”

“Yeah well that doesn’t mean you can do what you please,” confronting James he said, “I expect you to keep him in place and don’t take any Poo! From him, see you boys later.”

James walked over to the bed and sat down beside Patrick, he gazed at the small figure. The head seemed so big on the slender neck. His smallness and shy manner was what had attracted James to the boy, now that Patrick had lost weight since the accident he seemed to be drawn even more to the smaller boy. He bent over towards Patrick and brushed their lips together. “You don’t know how I’ve been longing to do that specs.”

“Kiss me again James.”

“Whatever you say Specs,” and again he leant forward this time their lips opening so their tongues could unite in a kiss that said more than any words could.”

When they parted Patrick took James’s hand and held it, “James.”

“Uh huh.”

“You know what the worst thing is about this accident.”

“What?”

“Not being able to snuggle into your arms and have you hold me tight, and to feel your heart beating when I’m close to you. Not being able to go for rides on your bike, shouting and yelling and feel the wind blowing in our hair.”

“Not to worry Specs, we’ll soon be better and out of plaster then you can spend all day and night in my arms and we’ll go for so many rides that you’ll get saddle sore.”

“James.”

“Yeah,”

“Umm, we umm.”

“Come on Patrick give.”

“We don’t have a bike.”

“Shit! Forgot about that, but that’s okay I’ll give you piggybacks.”

Patrick burst out laughing, when he stopped he took James’s hand then lifting it to his lips kissed it, raising his eyes to look at James he said, “I love you James King, I was too scared to say it before but after what happened I’m not.”

James taking his hand away stroked his friend’s head, “I know, and also that you were scared to say it before, because you thought that something bad might happen.”

“James,”

“What now?”

“Thanks.”

“Huh, for what?”

“Staying with me after the accident happened.”

“Yeah, well you couldn’t ride that bike on your own; the saddle was too high so I thought I’d better tag along.”

“I could ride it on my own if I just stayed on the pedals you saw me do it in the park so don’t make excuses. You were looking out for me. You weren’t that badly injured but you stayed with me.”

“Yeah well that’s what friends are for, can’t let you go off on your own just like that. Anyway it hasn’t been all that long ago that we met so I’m not about to have it end so soon.”

“James.”

“Now what?”

“Shut up and kiss me.”

After six weeks James’s arm came out of plaster. A further three weeks later on a Friday while James was at school Patrick’s plaster came off and the boys were now as they were before the crash. Of course James’s forearm had suffered a bit of wastage while in plaster as had Patrick’s leg. The first day that they were both free of plaster was one of absolute delight for them both. They kept their plasters as all the kids at school had signed them, some funny and some rather crude but no space had been left unsigned.

“Mum, I’m home,” he yelled.

“Yes James I can hear.”

He walked into the sitting room where his mother was seated bending over to kiss her, “Mum.”

“Yes I know James you’re going over to see Patrick.”

“Can I spend the night mum please?”

“No.”

“What, why mum what’s the reason.”

“Well after much thought and consideration when a certain young man phoned, and asked if he could spend the night here, I thought it best you go and bring him over.”

“Mum, you’re brilliant,” and he was out of the room bounding up the stairs ripping his clothes off and in the shower in two seconds flat. Fifteen minutes later he was yelling to his mother as he left the house. “Mum I’m going to fetch Patrick see you in a bit.”

“Alright son,” and she picked the phone up to alert Mary Jensen on her sons imminent arrival.

James couldn’t get to the Jensen household fast enough he rang the bell and waited for the door to open. When it did it was to see Patrick standing in the doorway minus the plaster supporting himself with a walking stick. James rushed forward grabbed hold of him and lifted the boy into his arms and walked into the house carrying him. “How’s it feel to be rid of the plaster Specs?” he asked, setting Patrick down on his feet in the hallway.

“Absolutely bloody brilliant, only thing it felt a bit weird at first and the leg is still a bit weak otherwise Wicked.”

“So when did you phone my mum asking to spend the night.”

“As soon as I got home after getting my plaster off and getting my mum to agree to my spending the night with you.”

“Okay when do you want to come over to my place?”

“We have to wait till my dad comes home from work he said he wanted to see me before I left to go to your house. Are you going to spend tomorrow night over here?”

“Yeah but you’ll have to wait till I get back from the match. We’re playing a 40 over cricket match, so that means the whole day more or less will be gone before I get back. I’ll bring you home before I go.”

“Can’t I come with you?”

“No Specs it’s going to be a long day and your mum might start worrying.”

“Okay I can go to the library and see if The Lord of The Rings is back. After the first time I never got round to going back again and it’s been over six weeks since I last went there. Let’s go up to my room until my dad gets home.”

“Okay but let me see your mum first and let her know I’ve arrived.” James discarded his trainers and went into the sitting room to greet Mrs Jensen then excusing himself made his way to Patrick’s room. Once inside he locked the door and quickly made it over to the bed where Patrick was lying and lay down beside him. The smaller boy lay looking at him as he put one arm under the slender boy lifting him to draw him tightly into his own body, at the same time throwing a leg over to grip him. Lowering his head James brought their lips together the and for first time since the crash that they could kiss with their arms and legs entwined. With the kiss their loins sprang to full arousal and they heightened the feelings of pleasures by grinding their hips and rubbing their erections together.

“Oh God Patrick, how I’ve been longing to hold you like this since the crash never thought the day would ever come.” James said, as he broke the kiss.

“James.”

“Yes.”

“Stop talking, and just hold me.”

The two boys lay together in each other’s arms content to feel the presence of the other there bodies in close contact, the larger boy enveloping the smaller with his arms and legs.

They lay like that silently absorbing the moment. Patrick had squeezed his arm between their bodies and had inserted his hand under James’s shirt. He was now letting his fingers run over James’s body bringing sighs of pleasure from him.

“Patrick.”

“Yes.”

“If you don’t stop my dick is going to burst through my jeans.”

“That’s okay I won’t have to bother to take them off to get at it.”

“Patrick, James, get down here,” Mr Jensen’s voice jolted the boys from their state of contentment, they jumped off the bed adjusted their clothing as their manhood’s deflated like air being let out of a balloon. They went down to see Patrick’s father in the hallway by the front door.

“Ah there you both are. Have you got your things together Patrick for your overnight stay at James’s?”

“Not yet dad I’ll just go up and get them.”

“Alright but there’s no rush I’m going to have a cup of tea then I’ll give you both a lift to James’s house.”

He and James made their way into the kitchen while Patrick went to get his things. Mr Jensen had barely started his cup of tea when Patrick with his mother joined them in the kitchen.

“I’m ready to go dad.”

“Okay let me finish my tea first then we’ll be off.”

Five minutes later the boy’s bidding farewell to Mrs Jensen left the house with Mr Jensen. They started to walk around to the garage when he told them to wait by the front door he’d bring the car around. They stood waiting then he appeared again wheeling a brand new Red and Silver bike. The boy’s stood open mouthed as he approached them.

“Umm I’m not too sure about driving this thing do you think one of you can.”

Patrick threw his arms around his father, “Dad you’re brilliant,”

James also voiced his appreciation, “Thanks Mr J it’s wicked.”

“Yeah, well I thought you two might like this better than the car, and in any case I didn’t buy it the insurance paid for it. That’s another thing that we have to sort out for you two boys. Now get going and take care.”

They didn’t need any more prompting James straddled the bike and Patrick got into his usual place on the saddle.

He waited and it came, the arm encircled his midriff and squeezed, shivers ran through his body as he turned and said, “You ready specs.”

“Yep, let’s go James,” and they were off, shouting their goodbyes to Patrick’s father who stood with watery eyes watching them cycle out through the front gate. His son with his bag slung over his shoulder, one hand clutching his walking stick the other holding onto James, Two Boys’ on a Bike yelling their heads off.

What a sweet story! It made me laugh, it made me cry; it was wonderful!

Certain parts I didn't understand. When James' mom grabbed Patrick and put him on her lap and when Patrick's father picked him up and kissed him, I kept thinking: he's friggen' THIRTEEN!!! He's not five anymore! I have a thirteen year old who is under five three, and I can't pick him up! And I would NEVER put him on my lap! lol He'd be mortified!

Also, when Bert the Bully attacked Patrick and he wound up with a concussion, the doctor gave him a sedative. I thought you were supposed to try to keep the person awake; that it was dangerous for a person with a concussion to fall asleep. Why would the doctor give him something that will make him sleep longer?

And lastly, be careful of run-on sentences; you have quite a few. Also, when the characters are asking questions, 99 pecent of the time you don't use a question mark at the end of the question.

Anyway, great story; I'm looking forward to chapter eight! :)

Nice to hear you’ve enjoyed the story thus far Lisa.

Now to answer some of your queries.

Not too sure how big your 13yo old is and how you relate to him, but if you remember Patrick is rather on the small side and very timid. So Mrs. King does what she does to reassure him. As for his father kissing him what’s the problem, we do it all the time in the east to show our affection for our children.
