Chapter 2

Processing

June 2733 My life as a telepath begins: When a telepath’s ability manifests, their mind goes through a complete reorganization and has to reintegrate the whole personality. It is at this time, that we can receive a one-time massive infusion of data from another telepath to give us background information and a frame of reference of how things operate. It is huge and includes a data dump, which is huge too. The package is worked on in each generation with that generation's experiences added. So this was the package my father received from his father and also included what my dad had learned in the last thirty plus years.

To start, I learned there were just twenty-two known families with telepathic ability of which only three were publicly known and those three families have been exploited by the government since their discovery. As a result, the remaining nineteen families including mine, kept themselves well hidden, especially from the members of the three known families and the government. The data included detailed histories of each of those three families and their associates so that we could be careful and remain concealed.

The data included information that telepaths usually came into their ability sometime after their twenty-first birthday and it usually manifested during an extreme emotionally satisfying event as in a shared orgasm or extreme emotional trauma but with less favorable results. If no ability manifested by age thirty, it was not going to happen.

Blocking or shielding others from telepathically reading you without any evidence of intentional blocking was covered in detail and basic ones were the first mental exercise that had to be learned. It was as if it was mentally demonstrated and was easy with a little practice. Surprisingly, many non-telepaths were quite adept at unconsciously blocking telepathic probes. The data included techniques for surreptitiously getting past such blocks and also how to deflect those penetration techniques if used against us. The information was quite detailed and contained literally thousands of such techniques and counter-measures.

Telepathic ability was rated on a scale as follows:

Level 1, ability was the most common and these telepaths could read the thoughts of someone who they could see in the same room or area.

Level 2, ability was less common and these telepaths could read the thoughts or communicate telepathically with another telepath within an area of one kilometer whether they could see them or not.

Level 3, ability was a little more rare and these people could read thoughts or communicate telepathically with another telepath within an area larger than one kilometer up to four kilometers.

Level 4, ability was extremely rare among telepaths and these could read someone or communicate telepathically over distances up to ten kilometers. There were less than twenty telepaths known to have such ability and my grandfather was one.

Level 5, ability was defined as having an ability to communicate telepathically greater than ten kilometers and family histories only mentioned one person as having such an ability.

It was at this point that I felt my mind to start to further reorganize itself and I realized that my mind was organizing the data read, like a self-extracting program with multiple subroutines, as well as a main implementing program.

I got up from my desk and went to the toilet, then stripped and put my uniform into the cleaning unit and got into my personal refresher unit. It did not even register that I was washing away the remnants of my earlier orgasm and the remnants from the group hug. For once I did not even get an erection. It was like I was on autopilot. I finished and climbed into my bed and pulled up the covers and went into a deep sleep while my subconscious mind was busy processing.

I awoke ten hours later with a huge piss hardon and its accompanying urgent need to pee. Hurrying to the toilet and upon relieving myself, I again got into my refresher unit and got rock hard again. As in the past, I took myself in hand and relived the night before and the embrace of my dad and Kade as I came explosively.

{Shields! We didn't need to experience that!} {Grins!}

I sensed those same thoughts simultaneously from four people, my dad, Kade, grandfather and his spouse Drew. Once again I was immediately and completely embarrassed and turned red from head to toe.

{Sorry!} I sent.

My grandfather replied, {Softer, you need to calibrate!}

A whole new subset of information on calibrating the intensity of telepathic thoughts popped to the forefront of my mind and since it required another telepath, I sent as 'quietly' as I thought possible and still get through, {Who is available to assist in calibration?}

{I'm on my way} sent my grandfather.

My grandfather arrived carrying a huge tray with breakfast for two shortly thereafter. And he spent the next fourteen hours in my cabin with me.

We ate all three meals that day together in my cabin and I was put through the most exhausting mental exercises of my short life for the entire length of that seemingly endless day. Calibrating sendings, readings, probings, general sensing exercises, blocking and shielding exercises of all kinds and a detailed family history going back eleven generations was provided. I found I had cousins and was distantly related to almost all the other telepathic families by blood or past marriages over the many generations.

I also had a here-to-fore unknown aunt who resided on Earth and she had two sons, my cousins. One was about two and a half years younger than me and the other one was almost five years younger than me. My aunt also had a husband who was a doctor. She was my dad's younger half-sister and she had no clue about me, or her brother. She also did not know of our telepathic ability. She did know her father owned a space going cargo ship and that she and her mother who had died within the past year had been well provided for by family trusts. However, per my grandfather, both her sons carried genetic markers that indicated they were potential telepaths as well.

Grandfather told me that genetic markers for telepathic ability had been the holy grail of science ever since telepathy had been confirmed and found to run in families. So far the government sponsored scientists had not found and isolated any, but the hidden families had and were doing everything in their power to keep it undiscovered, including interfering with results that got too close to confirming it. It was a well-monitored field of study by the families.

All nineteen families that remained hidden were extremely well off. It seemed that knowing what your competitors in business and commerce really thought was an advantage that could be discretely exploited.

A couple hours before he left, my grandfather asked me to open my mind completely to him and to relinquish all control and showed me how to do that. I hesitated but then figured, he could probably drill down and do it without my consent if he really wanted to anyway. He had been supportive all day and answered all my questions, both verbal and non-verbal without hesitation, so I agreed.

It was like I was a bystander as I saw him testing and exploring everything and everywhere in my psyche. He found places I had forgotten or perhaps had never known were there. He tested my abilities for a long time and then I watched in total surprise as I saw him direct my mind to picture picking up my com link unit and float it off my desk and over to the coffee table in front of the couch where we were sitting and it worked. My com unit, which weighed about 200 grams (about 7 ounces) lifted off from my desk and floated to the coffee table where it gently landed, a distance of about five meters.

He then directed my mind to do a general observation scan of all one hundred and twenty-three other members on board the ship and to try to discern if there was any problems or trouble brewing that would affect the ship's performance. It was like seeing one hundred and twenty-three candle flames and testing them for color, clarity, strength and heat. The patterns were amazing and the differences in individuals were astonishing. Dad, Kade and Drew were most prominent and I felt an acknowledging nod from them as I recognized them. As my grandfather was 'driving', he had not been included but as I thought of him, his aura too came into focus and it was the most brilliant of all and I felt him smile as I took that small bit of control. The general consensus was that our crew was a happy well-adjusted lot satisfied with their jobs and their place on ship.

With that I realized that my past feelings of being intensely bored must have been a red flag for my family when they scanned. My grandfather then assured me that only he and my dad were capable of doing such an in depth group scan and now so was I.

I was suddenly completely exhausted and my grandfather wished me goodnight as our session ended for the day. He suggested I get a shower and a good night's rest, as tomorrow would be another grueling day.

I did just that and locked down my shields as I did my T'ai chi and then I went to bed and into a sound sleep while my subconscious mind continued to process and work feverishly.

The next day started completely different. I awoke with my shields completely locked down and as I cautiously sent my feelers out from behind them, I got a sense from Kade and Drew that I was totally absent and they could not even sense my presence, let alone my thoughts. Dad and grandfather had a general thought up to contact them when I was up and ready for the day and neither gave me an inkling as to whether they could sense my presence. I went and did my ablutions and took a shower and relieved myself there as well in full knowledge that I was not sharing my orgasm with anyone.

After finishing and dressing I sent a very narrow cast thought to both dad and grandfather that I was up and ready for whatever they had planned for the day. Dad answered that he would be joining me in a few after he stopped by to pick up a tray with our breakfast. I was surprised as I thought I would be again working with my grandfather as his was the stronger ability. But then I realized that I was probably weaker than my dad, although I think my developing telekinesis might be a surprise.

Thinking of telekinesis seemed to trigger an additional amount of information, which contained another surprise. It was not completely unknown among the families but also was only very minimally developed in only a very few. It was at a level of a parlor trick and not much real use had ever been developed. It seems that paper could be moved some few centimeters or a playing card flipped over, but that was generally the extent of the ability known in the histories.

While I had done it at my grandfather's direction, I had confidence I could repeat the action. I sat on the couch and looked at my com unit on the coffee table and pictured it rising smoothly and moving toward my desk and settling gently on it. While I was doing this, my door chimed and I signaled my dad to enter. He came in just as my com unit was flying on its own from the coffee table and he watched it land on my desk.

He sat the tray on the coffee table and seated himself next to me and gave me a look that spoke volumes and needed no telepathic ability to discern.

“Your grandfather told me that you had a surprise for me, but I had no idea it was this” he sputtered!

I told him that it was his pop's doing and explained how it happened as a result of his father’s attempt through me.

With that we pitched in and started eating as I was starving. My dad asked how my day went yesterday and I reported it was busy and exhausting but I learned a lot and assimilated more. He specifically asked how the general scan went and if I noticed any diminished sense in my perceptions of those that were more than a kilometer away toward the rear of the ship.

It was a revelation. As I recollected the experience, I realized I could perceive each of them perfectly in as much detail as I cared to. This meant I was at least a low level three telepath. Using my ability I stealthily peaked at my dad to see what he was thinking and he grinned at me.

{You can do a full scan of me, I grant you full access. I trust you can keep my secrets.}

With that I took full advantage and peered around in his psyche. Much was as I expected. The first thing I checked was just how much my father had been reading me prior to my coming into my powers. I was pleasantly surprised to find I had been naturally blocking him including my grandfather as my father had asked him. They could read my surface expressions and general emotions only. They thought that they could of course have forced a penetration of those natural blocks but saw no reason to do so and did not want to trigger either my awareness or ability. I then looked into my father's private life.

Much was shocking and some was positively embarrassing. He left himself completely open to me and I learned about him in some detail. I was shocked that he had rebelled against his pop as a young man and actually hated my grandfather and his grandfather for a time. He hated that his meeting Kade had been arranged by his grandfather, my great-grandfather. I found out that Kade was actually a cousin of his. Despite the fact that he had fallen in love with Kade immediately, that had not obviated the pain, only time had done that. Prior to that arranged meeting when dad was twenty-four, my dad had been omni-sexual. Meaning he had bedded anyone and everyone that he could, male, female, transgendered or hermaphrodite. He was into group sex, domination and role-playing. He literally thought he was thinking with his male appendage from the age of thirteen to almost age twenty-five. It was then I learned that dad had been brought on board at age fourteen because of his sexual preoccupations. As a result, he never married Kade as he felt he was not worthy of him because of his raunchy past. They were pair bonded and mated for life in his mind despite the seeming contradiction in his thinking about marriage.

Even more shocking I learned that both my dad and Kade found me incredibly sexy. For my dad it was so strong an attraction that he had been fighting it since he first saw me at age sixteen. Per my dad's perceptions, Kade had been attracted since I first boarded the ship. I poked at his memory of our group hug the night before last and realized it was his lust and love as much as mine, and that as my bear hug morphed into a powerful salacious grinding group hug that it became overwhelming and had culminated in a powerful shared orgasm. Further that emotional echo was still powerful.

My sexual isolation was self-imposed from my dad's point of view. While no one had shown any sexual interest, it was not because my interest would have been unwelcome but rather the mores of space ships. Experienced crew members never made the first move on a new member but rather left it up to the new member. Thus my reputation as the “Ice Prince!” Everyone assumed I really was not interested as no one could imagine that an interested party would not eventually make some move, no matter the age differences. My dad was truly amazed at my sexual self-control and almost in awe of it. My status as the “Ice Prince” seems to have further fueled the libidos of both my father and Kade.

I found it ironic. That hug and its aftermath had triggered my ability and led to my current enlightenment. As I finished my initial rooting through his mind, my father smirked and said, “Surprised by anything?”

My short response was: “Shell-shocked! About lots of what I found out.”

My father then turned the tables and asked permission to do a close reading of me. I had by this point nothing more to hide and allowed it. He took his time. He was not as thorough as my grandfather and seemed more interested in my sexual fantasies than my telepathic or other psychic abilities. He finished rather quickly and then said; “well lets get started on what Pop said we should practice today.”

He then pulled out his com unit and located our chief engineer in the engine room and asked him to provide a status report. He muted the unit for a second and asked me to read the engineer and see what he was leaving out. He then turned the sound back on and listened attentively to the report. I easily located George Heigel and started my probe just as he began his report. I listened to what he said and what he didn't say and then looked around to see what else was concerning him as unobtrusively and stealthily as I could. He completed his report and was obviously anxious to get back to work per his com conversation. I however, sensed that our sixty-five year old chief engineer was finished in the engine room for a while and wanted to get back to his cabin and bend over for his mate Lucas, a well hung black cook who had just gotten off shift.

My dad looked at me and said, “Well?”

My reply was, “We really have a rather randy crew, don't we?”

He laughed and inquired what triggered that response, so I explained everything I had learned from my incursion. As I finished, he responded, “A satisfied crew is a happy crew and we only pick crew members who are open to sexual satisfaction.”

I asked, “Did you start this policy or did grandfather?”

Dad responded, “It was your great-grandfather and he was the randiest of us all.”

He then led me through some of the same mental exercises I had practiced the day before and seemed pleased with my abilities. It was interesting to interact with my father as another adult. We stopped at mid shift and he asked if I was ready to venture out of the family area and head to the dining room. Shields firmly in place and questing threads of surreptitious telepathic inquiry carefully and discretely extended, we made our way to eat.

It was a cacophony of conversations, unspoken subtexts and free associating thoughts. It was almost overwhelming until I put in place some more of the filtering techniques I had learned the day before. The conversations were light-hearted, laced with good-natured profanities and ribald in character. The subtext thoughts and free associating thoughts were even more salacious. Sexual innuendo and testosterone were such that I felt like a walking hardon and my erection was almost bursting.

I narrow cast to my dad, {With my telepathic abilities I am completely sexually stimulated to the point of creaming my uniform. How do you handle it?}

{With lots of sexual release} he smugly sent.

We finished our luncheon and returned to my cabin walking rather funny even in the low gravity of the ship where fluid movements were soon learned.

As soon as I returned I announced I had to use the refresher unit. My dad asked if he could join me and since I had in essence been inside his mind through all kinds of sexual encounters and he had likewise read me, there was very little room for modesty. So I responded, “Only if Kade joins us.”

Dad looked sideways a bit and then I heard Kade clearly {I'll be there in two minutes.}

Three minutes later, the three of us were naked in my high tech, rock light show shower rubbing against each other’s hairy bodies with soap and shampoo and copping feels freely as we moved to the music. Kade maneuvered himself behind my father and entered him and then invitingly spread his cheeks for me. I had no problem stepping up to the plate but had a slight regret that I wasn't the meat in the sandwich. Dad had reinforced the warning to me to retain my general shields as I opened direct links to them as they in turn opened up links to me. We each got the echo feed back of stroking and being stroked, shuddering and provoking the shudder, the heat and the passion. It was completely beyond anything I had imagined sex could be. Sex with telepathic companions was literally mind blowing and it didn't take us long to achieve nirvana. We dried off and cuddled on my bed with me in the middle this time. It was the best afterglow I could imagine as we drifted off for a short nap.

We were rudely awakened by my grandfather. It happened when he suddenly pulled off the sheets, displaying us naked and entangled, with me in the middle. Drew was with him and neither appeared discomfited. Grandfather calmly announced that dad and Kade had work awaiting them and that I had less than half a day to finish my orientation. Drew and my grandfather would be my guides for the afternoon.

We scrambled to get dressed. Dad and Kade then made a hasty exit.

Drew gave me a piercing look and said: “What we just saw was not unexpected. Those randy boys have wanted to get you into bed since you first boarded the ship.”

“Just like most of the other members of the crew” my grandfather remarked.

I just laughed. Those ‘randy boys’ were in their fifties!

Turning to the business at hand my grandfather asked me if I had practiced any of my telekinesis ability. I related what I had done as dad had entered that morning but that was all. He asked me to demonstrate for Drew so I looked at the com unit on my desk and pictured if floating over to me next to my bed and landing in my palm and made it happen.

I grasped it easily and checked it to see my messages while my grandfather and Drew exchanged glances and appeared to communicate telepathically.

My grandfather then asked me something odd: “Can you communicate directly with the AI computer mainframe telepathically? I call him Hal.”

I had never imagined telepathically communicating with a computer. But I thought why not give it a try? I envisioned the main control panel on the bridge, which accepted voice, commands and sent, {Hal, can you hear me?}

My com link chimed and displayed the following text message: 'Perfectly, how can I be of service?' I showed it to my grandfather and Drew.

Grandfather explained that Hal was not your ordinary ship's AI computer but enhanced to the full extent that money and advanced programming could provide at the time of his last upgrade. The model had been developed in conjunction with the other hidden telepathic families.

I asked my grandfather: “Is there was a way for Hal to send to me directly without going through a com link or other interface?”

He smiled and said “That is the hope. You will have to keep sending to Hal so that he can figure out how to send back to just you without doing a ship-wide broadcast.”

So I sent to Hal, {What do I need to do to enable you to narrow cast back to me telepathically like I am doing to you?}

Then I sent Hal a synopsis of what I had been learning and practicing for the past two days and what I had learned about the ship's crew and my ability to group read them.

Hal was fast and before long, he sent to me, {Can you hear me now?}

{Yes, and can my grandfather and Drew also hear you?} I replied and included my grandfather and Drew in that sending.

Hal replied, {They will have to telepathically establish a link to me before I can reply to them in kind.}

I explained Hal's response and my grandfather and Drew looked less pleased as they apparently had little success in the past. So I volunteered to open myself to them while I sent to Hal so they could see how I did it and perhaps learn my method. They readily agreed and as I opened my shields, I sensed Drew looking around a bit to orient himself. Grandfather knew my mind intimately from the day before and signaled I should begin.

{Hal, I have my grandfather and Drew telepathically linked to me to observe how I make the link to enable them to try on their own. Can you sense them through me?}

{Yes, I can discern them quite distinctly and since I know how to send to you, and can now discern them on a mental level, I can see how to send to them telepathically as well.}

I could sense that Hal's message was being transmitted through their connection with me as well as directly to them.

My grandfather and Drew were both astonished at this break-through and began testing it individually like two kids with a new toy. I listened in to their exchanges for a while but it got a little boring for me and so I decided to practice my telekinesis.

I looked around my cabin and noted the bed was unmade and decided it looked messy and pictured the sheets and pillows straightening out and the duvet being made tidy and then with a thought, made it so. Grandfather was not distracted enough so as to not notice and watched with a widening smile. Drew too, caught the last movements of the duvet and turned in surprise and looked at me with wonder.

“There is no grading system or levels for telekinesis as no one has ever demonstrated your level of ability. Is there anything you have tried which you were unable to do?” asked my grandfather.

I shook my head no and looked around my cabin and noted the coffee table was bolted to the floor like most of the furnishings since we were aboard a ship. The chair at my desk was not however, although it had metal wheels and magnetic force applied. I pictured it lifting from the floor and hovering over the coffee table and then made it so. The chair weighed about 14 kilograms and I was able to hover it there without any problems. My grandfather and Drew were astonished again. Grandfather directed me to set the chair on the floor and then promptly sat in and asked that I perform the trick with him sitting in it.

This was considerably more weight and I worried that I might drop my grandfather. But he was unconcerned and wanted me to try. So I did it and floated the chair with him in it toward the substantially built coffee table. I gently landed it on the table and then slowly rotated the chair with my grandfather still sitting in it.

When I finished he popped up and got down from the table and clapped his hands and said, “What ever you do, do not forget and perform any telekinesis in the presence of anyone outside the family. You must be very careful. I can see where this ability is going to be very tempting in all sorts of situations, but you must behave normally and pick things up yourself and move things manually. This is as big or bigger than telepathy. Promise me you will be very discreet to the point of paranoia about this!”

“Yes sir, I promise” I replied.

I telepathically sent to Hal, {Will you keep track of me and send me a warning if I start to do something when someone outside the family can see or monitor me?}

Hal replied, {I'd be glad to back you up. I've already kept my monitoring of you and the rest of the family continuously in place since you initiated direct mind contact. However, I need you to include your dad and Kade in a contact like you did your grandfather and Drew so I can directly communicate with them too.}

{Will do it as soon as possible} I replied.

Grandfather and Drew spent the rest of the day testing and exercising my telepathic ability, and I seemed to pass all their tests as they kept trying to devise harder and harder ones for me to complete.

Hal as in HAL 9000?

I liked the image of candle flames for the crew's minds. Like Kitt I can see lots of trouble ahead and I can't wait to read about it.

As a side note: I really want one of those showers now.

Hal was a nod to the original. Another AI is in a later chapter and her name is a nod to another computer genius...

The shower only works in space with gravity of 50 percent of Earth normal or less....

I'm thinking that if Able's powers are growing this fast, he might be stronger than everyone in the end. I also like that little nugget about his younger cousins...are they going to be joining the crew? That sounds promising for him to find a mate. What will your posting schedule be for this story....cause now I'm intrigued and need more. :P

The cousins do figure into the story and I'll let the story tell you when and how. Abel's power is growing. I plan on postings late Wednesday night into Thursday morning and again late on Saturday night for a while. At least until I run out of completed ones.........

It doesn't seem that Abel III is bored, bored, bored anymore. He has plenty to occupy his mind. You've made a good case for him being a responsible young man and one might presume the data-dump and the subsequent mind links would have a way of reinforcing responsibility. After that shower scene and that kind of sexual adventure . . . Well, he's awake now, isn't he?

Explaining the processing of the data-dump was well thought out and the linking, at least the human part, was highly plausible. The explanation of how a mental link with the computer was made and how, needed more polish in the reasoning or technicality of it. On the other hand, how Able III brought in his Grandfather and partner to the link once it was established was accomplished well. Perhaps the telekinesis is part of the reasoning, although that hasn't been noted as such--still this part of his ability is exciting.

Another fine chapter, DDK.

Thanks for your comments. Telepathy as I envision it involves linking with another mind. As the AI has a mind, Abel just needed a bit of focus to try making the connection and that is perhaps where you thought it was a bit less polished or technical. I used the mike in the bridge as the outward sign of the inward process and once the connected was threaded, it was easier. Linking minds with his family and then linking with the AI just made sense after that.

I am surprised more have not mentioned telekinesis. It does play an important part in the story.

I am enjoying the story, though the pace kinda slowed down in this chapter. I'd have liked to see it stay raised a bit more...maybe the amount of new info being greater or the events that took place or things revealed be a bit more exciting, though his telekinetic abilities are a surprise. Maybe getting to know the grandfather and his mate a bit more would have helped. How did they meet? Were they paired up? Do we see a possible foreshadowing with the cousins being talked about after we find out that Kade is a cousin and was a match made for him? What did that mean anyhow? Was he just introduced or was he told that they would be together? What do they mean by matched up? You get the feeling that he was angry b/c he felt forced into a relationship. But, that is just an impression I get. We never were told, through Abel's readings, why he was introduced to Kade as a match? Was it to insure he was with another telepath?

I'm wondering how the other families communicate? It can't be telepathically b/c of the relative limits of their abilities. They certainly can't talk across space. They wouldn't be able to communicate with technology clearly, for risk of discovery. Is there a meeting of the families somewhere? Also, I am surprised the others haven't gone past that 1kilometer point to see if he could communicate with another telepath outside of that. Yes, he saw the others on the ship past that distance, but doesn't the level of the telepath specify the ability to communicate with another telepath at that distance? I would really like to know how strong a telepath he is if possible. I assume it could be tested when they reach their destination and can get off the ship to put the distance between them to test his strength and establish his level of telepathic ability.

I am intrigued by his telekinetic powers, but wouldn't it stand to reason that if he can't let anyone know about it, couldn't the other families have kids with that ability that they told to hide it from the world? It would stand to reason that it wouldn't be revealed if anyone had that ability.

Wow, what a great review. You raise many of the questions I had when I was trying to put the story together. Most will be answered eventually. As for as the pace of this chapter, I slowed it down intentionally as I was trying to convey the immensity of processing everything he received. I hope it worked to some extent.

I always been fascinated with telekinesis. Looks like it's going to be a star in Able's crown. His ability is even more powerful than his family's power. Quite the group we have here. Family or not, there's a closeness that is going to be hard to penetrate by an outer circle. That's a plus in the your setting and time frame you've got your story taking place.

Now I'm wondering how many men Able will actual partake of since he knows the truth about everything and on top of that, he can read their thoughts if he wants. This should be quite the tale as he goes about his adventure. Enjoyng this very much.

Thanks for the review. Abel III is quite the young man and I hope his story continues to fascinate!

I am completely wowed by Abel III thus far. The science/phenomena is interesting and stimulating, and the characters are slowly coming into focus. I am in no rush to assume what I will need to know first in order to appreciate what is still to come. In fact, I like the idea that Abel discovers himself in our company, we get to see through his eyes. His life is the true adventure. The real gift is your ability to make me ponder and wonder and pant; seems like a good combo to me. Thanks.

Thanks for your wonderful comments! I am so glad that you find the self-discovery process one to savor. I look forward to your comments as you progress through the story!

I loved this chapter about telepathy and telekinesis. It made me think of Anne McCaffrey's Rowan series which is built on similar concept (and trust me the comparison is meant as a compliment).

The part about his dad was intriguing (especially as I've read the more detailed explanation), and it was interesting in contrast to Abel''s self-control. The sex was sweet and I liked the cuddling, since I guess poor Abel is starved of physical contact. I also made guesses as to his likely forays into intimacy with the rest of the crew, now we know they were just waiting for him to initiate it (probably hoping too :P ).

Bringing the action with the surroundings to an almost complete halt in the story made sense, as we experienced Abel's need to absorb all of the complex information along with him. The direct link to the A.I. was a brilliant twist - and I chuckled at the HAL name.

I tried to convey the immensity and complexity of becoming telepathic. I think most people think.it would be cool without thinking of the probable consequences without some way to filter. Can you imagine being bombarded with stray thoughts. Think of schizophrenia and hearing voices....

Very cool...this chapter raises a lot of interesting questions. Keeping it in the family( as in their abilities) can be justified as a must at this point. The mention of the earth cousins and their genetic markers automatically creates a curiosity about them, possibly as a mate for Abel...or a nemesis. His fathers history was very enlightening and serves to create more questions. We already know that Abel is attracted to someone his own age in preference...so I am kind of hoping that their might be romance in this story...I guess I will find out because I will continue this journey. You manage to give us a complicated intro to the story yet make it very easy reading...good job...a lot of sci fi starts out confusing. Cheers...Gary

Hal? (Clarke's Chilhood's End got me hooked on Sci Fi as a senior in High School. 2001 and the sequels are one of the few books I still own in hardcover!)

Can you hear me now?

You rock Daddy!

Thanks for reading and reviewing and having a sense of humor. If we can't have a little fun with what we write, what is the point?

Thanks again! DDK

The mere thought of all that inter-cranial communication is mind boggling. I hope there's a cut-off switch so he can relax and lower the shields. I'd not be happy to see into the minds of most people I know -- eww! :o

An interesting concept, I look forward to- seeing where you go with this.
