My answers to Val's Postcards from the Pandemic - 3. Card #12 to 18
Card #12
Good Friday.
I’m reading Holes with my nephew,
Online of course.
Later I meet some friends to play D&D,
Online of course.
A friend recommends a recipe.
Online of course.
We’re in the kitchen.
Real life. Thank God.
Card #13
I grab the bowl and measure the flour.
Now it’s a rare good.
The same with yeast.
No wonder there are so many recipes on the internet now: What to do with all the flour?
Or did we become a nation of bread bakers?
I always make sweet bread for Easter, just sayin’.
Card #14
Oh my. The sweet Easter bread looks like a freshly dropped cow pattie.
It tastes good though.
We did a Zoom egg hunt. It was funny as hell.
There’s some flour left. What about another bread?
This time with oregano, olives, eggs and feta.
It was a relief after the marzipan and chocolate orgy.
It feels like a walk by the sea.
The air is crisp and clean.
The daffodils shiver.
Card #15
My very own Medinterania is in full bloom,
Bougainvillea braved winter, neglect and forgetfulness,
Pink drops delight me unmerited.
Multicolored moss roses grow around the foot of the Mandarin tree.
Palm trees sway in yet too cold wind. The sun will warm us soon.
Card #16
Today we may see shooting stars.
The April Lyrids will have us looking up until our necks hurt,
even though they only peak in a few days.
Less pollution thanks Corona and no moon: the chances to make a superstitious wish are high.
Card #17
I found long lost keys.
I found shellac records. Liberace and Maria Callas.
I found tons of empty flower pots,
Time to refill them.
I found a favorite jacket.
I found a movie inside the kaput, old blue-ray player,
I’m going to stream it tonight.
I found my bracelets and necklaces.
Put away and forgotten the first day at the ER.
I found...
Card #18
The crisis brings out the worse and the best in people.
Xenophobia.
Neighborly help.
Homophobia.
Twitter concerts.
Hubris.
Online poetry readings.
Cowardliness.
Bravery.
Egoism
Balcony choirs.
Sharing.
Hoarding.
Creative special birthday celebrations.
Ignorance.
Generosity.
Racism.
Welcome.
