Disasters, Delights and Other Detours - 80. Leaves

I enjoy writing haiku, though these are admittedly far from perfect. No leaf is perfect either, yet the autumn experience can be exquisite. Through the months of September, October and November, the leaves speak to us. Or, at least they talk to me, anyway.

Over distant clouds

beams emerge through gold branches

in the stained-glass dawn.

Catalpas remain

clothed in their bright green garments,

bared only at frost.

Near leafless poplars

shiver in the morning breeze,

grieving and silent.

Leaves flee from the wind

like kids dancing and leaping,

at play in the sun.

Fallen, they now flow,

reflected flames on the creek

between the maples.

Countless orange stems

lie deep on the forest floor

whispering of June.

I love writing haiku as well, and these are marvelous snapshots of the beauty imposed by a change of seasons. Stained glass dawn... so evocative and wonderful. Great work, buddy!

I also loved the imagery of "stained glass dawn".  I can picture all of these clearly.  You brought to life the cycle of the various types of trees perfectly.

You’re very kind. Perhaps autumn is a haiku kind of season, a time when the imperfect leaf becomes - for an instant - a kind of perfection itself. The translucent red-gold leaf at dawn cannot be replicated, and I treasure its experience. Thank you!

The color contrasts these days arrest my attention. Deep, dusty greens, scarlets and yellows, set against crystal blue skies— how can I not write about them? Thanks very much for your thoughts.

Each draws an image to mind. Thank you for these autumnal glimpses.

I’m very glad you could see each snapshot. Thank you for rambling in the woods today.

i enjoyed the title as much as each poem.

I’m glad you enjoyed these. I have tried to be more observant of the detail in each day’s changes; I hope these details made their way into each haiku. Thank you for reading these.
