The Order

   (3 reviews)
Genres: Fantasy
Sub-genres: General Fantasy

The Order is an epic journey, one that carries Ken, Brad, and their military brothers to places never imagined within themselves, the world, the Spiritual Realm, and even beyond the Pale.  Finding themselves pitted against an ancient evil, they must become Warriors of an ancient Brotherhood capable of saving mankind.  Through their trials, they discover abilities, places, hidden truths about reality, and creatures that have remained hidden for eons. However, before they can grow into the saviors of humanity, they first have to face seeing inside each other, and find the Unconditional Love that will be the root of their strength.

Content Notice:

This story contains sexual situations between men and adult language.

As the story progresses, it becomes more Spiritual and Religious in nature.  The religious elements are a mix of my own worldview, pulling from a number of religions, including Christianity, and a good bit of Norse Mythology and Mysticism.  Ultimately it is a fantasy novel, and nothing in the story is meant to be offensive or taken literally.  My intent is to present an entertaining story that will make you laugh and cry, and enjoy the characters and their relationships through their journey.

First of all, this is a wonderful epic tale. It goes beyond the classic Good vs. Evil.

Secondly. Yes, it's very long. There are themes that are repetitive but the repetitiveness works because of the length of the story.

Thirdly. The characters are complex, both in their relationships to each other and the emotions they invoke.

Last of all, the story runs the gamut of emotions. There are plenty of moments of love, laughter, anger, frustration....you name it, it's there.

The only difficulty for me was the length of the chapters, rather than the length of the story itself. My real world rarely gave me enough time to read a chapter in its entirety in one sitting. Other than that I  really enjoyed it.

Response from the author:

I appreciate you sticking with it and seeing it through to the end!  I looked forward to each of your comments along the way. Thank you so much for the review - it means the world to me 🙂

A very well-written and polished story.  It is nice to see a story where the main characters are a group of men rather than teenagers.

This is a long story with many characters that requires concentration to read.  It is worth the effort.  I suggest that you either make notes of the members of the order from the prologue or print out the very first part of the appendix with the entries on the 10 major characters ('Bodies' and 'Mentalists') Don't spoil the plot by reading the whole appendix first.

The author has worked hard to produce an interesting and detailed story.  It is worth reading even if it takes a month or two for you to finish.  Most chapters have subsection headings so you don't have to read an entire chapter at each sitting.  I finished the story today and am beginning my second read.

Response from the author:

Thank you, JayBear, for the review.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking the time to write it.   It makes me happy not only knowing someone read the story in its entirely but they enjoyed it.   Long, epic fantasy stories are not very popular these days.  I hope that genre comes back.  It's what I grew up with, so I suppose that's why I gravitate to writing it.

Take care and thanks again,

Brad
