Attempts at Poetry - 3. To Hike

So, we were out enjoying the nice weather at the park and the hiking trails reminded me of when I used to hike with my day. So, here's my first poem for the April is Poetry month.

To Hike

To tread over earth

moss, rocks, shells

to admire the trees

rough bark, changing leaves

To feel the breeze

God's breath, gentle, kind

To taste rain,

Tears of God, soothing, sweet

To climb steep rocks

straight, jagged, sharp

To feel the pain

pounding heart, cuts, stiff limbs

To rest by river's edge

rushing rapids, quiet pools

To hear rustling leaves

squirrels, birds, rabbits

To sit on a mountain

peace, isolation, tranquility

To view a valley

tiny, desolate, distant

To feel awakened

alive, exhilarated

To leave

tired, fulfilled.

Here's hoping I manage to remember to try to do the one-a-day poem for the National Poetry Month thing! :) If nothing else, at least I did one...
