Attempts at Poetry - 2. I'm Awake (sort of)

Poetry Prompt # 3: Lyrics
Write a two stanza poem in 8/6 syllable pattern about how you felt when you first woke up in the morning.

Poetry Prompt #3: Lyrics

Write a two stanza poem in 8/6 syllable pattern about how you felt when you first woke up in the morning.

I'm Awake (Sort of)

Deep in slumber, warm comfort wrapped

An alarm goes off, snap

A fumble for the button, slap

Eyes still closed, oh to sleep

A thump, a bounce, a squirm, cold feet

Small body snuggles in

"Mom," it whispers, "I'm hungry now."

Sigh. My child. "I love you."

This one was easier, I think, than the rhymes. Apparently, rhymes are not my thing--free verse is always good. Hehe.

Nice! You kept the rhythm going from start to end. Good job, and i love the cold feet reference - that's very true to life

Thank you for your encouragement with the poetry. This one was much easier to me than the rhymes.

What a great poem, Mom! Boy, I remember those days when you want to get just five more minutes of sleep and the kids are all over you to wake up and feed them! lol Jeez, just grab a box of Frosted Flakes and eat out of the box and let me sleep, dammit! :D

Hehe, yes, it is so nice when they can get up and get some breakfast on their own! Thanks for the review!

I liked lyrics too. Free verse is more my thing. Yours was beautiful.. like the cold feet.. no kids here but there's someone large who always wants food...
thanks so much for sharing this lovely poem.

Free verse is usually mine too. I'm trying out some of these poetry prompts as a challenge to myself. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
