Fairway to Heaven 1. The Vega Files

   (5 reviews)
Genres: Mystery,

When a beautiful 24-year-old is strangled and dumped on the pristine tenth fairway of Wilshire Country Club, Detective Daniel Vega’s first day back from exile becomes the fastest murder solve in West Bureau history.

One espresso martini selfie, one navy Hermès tie, one panicked rich lawyer, and eight hours are all Danny needs to turn a country-club morning into a career-ending afternoon.

Some people think money and a perfect handicap can buy silence.

Detective Vega is about to prove them wrong, one handcuffed swing at a time.

A callback to old classic gay mystery genre that appeals to readers who love hard boiled detectives like Daniel vega.

There's a good helping of police codes and local Los Angeles detail that captures a classic noir vibe, fitting for a police procedural. The scenes of wealthy hillside homes and country club contrast with an old police station and a charming dive bar with a genre-based minor characters, who feel like a potential love interest if the author decides to make this a series.

Overall a good story worth reading.

A detective , Danny, found having sex with a Captain's son and is sent in disgraced to handling homicide in his old district. He is given the case of a dead young man found by the fairway of an exclusive country club. He has to be very careful. The killer could be wealthy and connected. Any mistakes could really end his career

Read on to find out how the detective carries out his investigation and if he finds the killer or if the killer gets away.

I ve just watched a great Spanish detective series, Terra Alta, but reading this story I realized what it, and so many series, got wrong: procedure.  This is a great reaction to a prompt, but even better as a superb police homicide story, well-told and well-researched.

And the one- liners are very, very, good. ¡Enhorabuena, detectivo!

In this captivating short story, you get to meet Detective Danny Vega as he uses a mixture of good old-fashion police work, along with some more modern techniques, to solve the murder of a 24-year-old murder victim.  There's plenty of interesting banter between Danny, his superiors and co-workers, and it kept my interest from start to finish, and I'm sure it will do the same for you as you enter this interesting world of a homicide detective.
