Prompts 2018 - 1. Chapter 1
Panic
Response to Prompt 665
“Carman, what the hell is wrong with you?”
Steven grabbed his friend and co-worker by the arm and dragged him from the conference room. Carman just drifted, almost as if he were in a drug induced haze. Once away from the rest of the associates at the law firm, Steven gave the close to comatose man a firm shake.
“Snap out of it Carm!”
“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god,” Carman mumbled. “What do I do now?”
Steven patted his cheeks with cold water from the cooler.
“Carman, talk to me!” He almost shouted.
“Huh? What? Oh, what do I do Steve?”
“Let’s start by breathing. Then you tell me what has you looking like you have seen the ghost of Christmas Future.” Steve handed his freaked out friend a cup of water.
Carman looked at the cup and giggled a little hysterically.
“I think I need something a little stronger than this!” He seemed to be coming out of his trance. “That’s him!”
“That’s who? You are not making much sense.” Steven tried to resist shouting at his friend.
“The guy from last night! The hot one that was hitting on me. He got so upset when I chickened out and left without him!”
“Wait, the new partner we just met was the guy you ditched at the club last night?”
“Yes, aren’t you listening? Oh my god, how am I supposed to work with him?”
