Twenty-Eight Years Later - 2. Chapter 2
New Kid In School Chapter 71 - The Battle Over Ryan
I’d been home for a few minutes and was just getting ready to go over to Ryan’s when the doorbell rang. I guessed he decided to come over here. Imagine my surprise when I saw an unhappy Tyler on my front porch.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“I think I may have made a huge mistake with Ariel.”
“Come on in, tell me what happened.”
We sat down on the couch.
“Well, we left lunch to go and talk, right?”
“Yeah, I remember.”
“I should have kept my fucking mouth shut.”
“Ariel probably wouldn’t have liked that much.”
“Well, I’m sure he likes knowing I’d been with Matt and Sam less. He said he thinks he’s okay with it but he has to think about it. I mean, that can’t be good, right?”
“That boy loves you to the moon and back. You have nothing to worry about.”
“I don’t know, Randy. He looked like I felt after a breakup. If he doesn’t want me anymore, I don’t know what I’ll do.”
I spent the next fifteen minutes trying to convince Tyler he had nothing to worry about. I’m not sure I succeeded, but I absolutely knew Ariel wouldn’t give up on Tyler. He might struggle with that decision for too long, but he’ll stick with him in the end.
The doorbell rang again less than two minutes after he left. Again, I guessed Ryan decided to come over here. I opened the door; it was Tyler again.
“Long time no see.”
“Yeah. I just ran into Ryan. He said he was going over Sean’s to work on their drama project. I didn’t think he did that.”
“Yeah, I think they only worked on it at school.”
“Yeah, I thought it was suspicious. I know you don’t trust Sean. I know I don’t, and Ariel hates him. That milkshake move was on purpose.”
“Way to go, Ariel. Yeah, thanks for mentioning it. I mean, I don’t want to follow him and get caught, because if it is totally innocent...”
“Sean? Totally innocent? If it was Ariel, I’d be on it in a heartbeat. Go. Just don’t get caught.”
“You’re right. Looks like it might rain though. I hate this time of year.”
“Come on, you’d go through a hurricane to save Ryan. Stop making excuses and get your ass over there. Besides, it’s almost cold enough to snow.”
“You’re right. Thanks.”
Tyler left. I’m so happy I asked Cody where Sean lived. I’d be too far behind to follow Ryan now.
I went and got my old cell phone. I figured if worse came to worst and Sean tried something, I could record it and give it to the police without losing my good phone. Sometimes it’s good being OCD about some things. I’d decided to keep it charged, just in case... Then I grabbed a jacket, locked up, and took off toward Sean’s house. I hadn’t been there before, but I knew right where it was. I just hoped I’d be able to find a place to spy from.
When I got there, the house looked dark from the front. I slowly worked my way around back. The back yard ended in a strip of trees about ten feet deep. Hopefully, I got back there without being seen. I waited, partially hidden, about halfway into the trees.
Almost half of the back of the house was glass. I saw one sliding glass door that led into a living room, or maybe family room. A light was on, so I could see in fairly well. I felt like a peeping Tom, but I wasn’t about to trust Sean to be all innocent. I watched him lead Ryan into the room and show him to the couch. Of course, it would be the couch, Sean wasn’t about to let Ryan sit in a recliner alone. He asked him something. I wish I could hear, but that wasn’t possible. Ryan answered, nodding, and Sean went into the next room. He came back a couple minutes later with two mugs. Ryan didn’t drink coffee, so I suspected it was either tea or hot chocolate. Sean said something else, put his mug down and left the room again, but in the opposite direction of what I supposed was the kitchen.
I saw a light come on to my right, so I drifted that way to check if I could see into that room too. I could. It was a bedroom, Sean’s apparently. He pulled a folder out of his backpack. The drama class project, I guessed. I breathed a sigh of relief.
My relief was short lived however, when he pulled the bed covers down. If he was planning on just working on the project, he’d have had no reason to do that. I followed him back to the living room. Ryan was still sitting on the couch, but he was leaning to one side, mug dangling empty from his right index finger. It looked like his eyes were closed, but I wasn’t close enough to be sure. He straightened his head up when Sean said something, but immediately shook his head no. Sean disappeared into the kitchen once again. I stood there and watched Ryan’s head slowly drop down to his chest. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Sean fucking drugged him. The mug fell to the floor.
I wanted to go crashing through the door and drag Ryan out of there. But then I realized I could screw Sean over real good if I recorded what he was doing and bang on the door if it got to, where I was afraid, but sure, it was heading. I held up the phone, zoomed in a bit, and hit record.
Sean came back and looked at Ryan. He shook Ryan’s shoulder a couple times, but Ryan didn’t respond. My anger grew, but I needed more evidence. I watched as Sean took off my baby’s shirt.
‘You mother fucker,’ I whispered to myself. I had to juggle a bit, but I got my cell phone out of my pocket and punched in the numbers, but didn’t hit send yet. Sean knelt down in front of Ryan, blocking my view of what he was doing, but it became obvious when he turned to the side with Ryan’s pants. I hit send.
“9-1-1, what is your emergency?”
“I’m witnessing a sexual assault.”
“What is your name, sir, and where are you at?”
“Randy Stephens, and I’m behind 321 Third Street.”
“What exactly are you seeing?”
“Sean Whitaker just removed my b... friend’s pants. Now he’s got his underwear off. I think he’d given Ryan something to knock him out.”
“Whose underwear?”
“Sean took off my friend Ryan Hatcher’s underwear.”
“Police are on their way. Stay with me please.”
“I will. Oh my God. I have to do something. Sean is kneeling in front of Ryan. He’s sucking him.”
“Are you sure Ryan is not allowing this?”
“No! I already mentioned it. It looks like Sean drugged him. Ryan’s not awake.”
“Understood. Do not interfere. Please wait for the police to arrive.”
I watched breathlessly as Sean took Ryan’s cock into his mouth. His head bobbing up and down in Ryan’s lap. Sean stood up. Ryan had fallen further over to the side, but he was hard. Sean started taking his own clothes off. I heard a distant siren.
“Sean’s getting undressed. I have to do something.”
“Sir, please wait. The police will be there in one minute.”
Fuck that. I didn’t listen. The siren was closer. I disconnected, pocketed that phone, broke cover, ran up to the glass door, and banged on it, holding up my phone so Sean would see I was recording him. He walked toward me with an evil smile on his face. I was able to hear him now.
“Recording this for your jerk-off fantasies? You can’t use it anywhere else, you’ll be arrested for distributing child porn. Enjoy the show.”
“Get the fuck away from him.”
Sean smiled evilly again, gave me the finger, and turned back toward Ryan. The siren was real close, then it stopped. They must have been out front. Just when Sean was about to put his dick into Ryan’s mouth, he stopped and looked toward the front of the house. At the same time, a policeman came running around the side of the house. He took one look inside and reached for his portable radio.
“Breech now. Assault in progress.”
He banged his billy club on the glass, shattering it. It sounded like an explosion happened at the front of the house at almost the same time.
“Don’t move son,” came from inside the house.
Sean didn’t listen, but broke for his bedroom. The cop next to me cleared some hanging shards from the top of the door and went in.
He looked at me, “Stay outside.”
The cop that was next to me gestured to the other who must have been in the kitchen still, then pointed at Ryan. He pointed to himself, then toward the bedroom and left the room.
I had disconnected with 911, but was frozen in place. I don’t think I could have moved if my life depended on it. My voice wasn’t frozen, though.
“Ryan! Ryan, wake up!”
No reaction. I felt helpless. I heard a loud bang from inside the house to my right.
“Drop it!”
The bang must have been the bedroom door being kicked in.
“Put the knife down son. I don’t want to have to shoot you.”
Geez Sean, don’t be stupid. On second thought, go ahead and be very stupid.
I heard a grunt, and then the cop, “P-1 to dispatch, I need an ambulance at my location. Self-inflicted knife wound to the abdomen, approximately sixteen year old male. Second male, similar age, unconscious, cause unknown.”
“Ten-four P-1. EMT team dispatched.”
The other cop was by Ryan now. I asked, “Is he okay?”
He jumped, possibly not realizing I was there.
“He’s unconscious. That’s all I can tell you right now. Who are you?”
I held up my phone, “Randy Stephens. I called you guys.”
“Okay. Stay right there. We’ll want to talk to you shortly.”
‘No shit,’ I thought to myself.
I waited what seemed like an eternity, but it was probably only ten minutes. Two men went through with a stretcher on wheels. A gurney, I guess. They walked past Ryan and headed to the bedroom.
I whispered, “Fuck him, take care of Ryan.”
Seconds later another pair of EMTs came in to take care of Ryan. It wasn’t long before they wheeled him away. I didn’t know if I should move or not. His clothes were still on the floor.
The first cop came back out, followed by Sean on his stretcher. He was strapped down with an oxygen mask over his face. I guess he didn’t kill himself. Too bad. The cop walked over to me.
“You witnessed the whole thing?”
“Pretty much. I started recording shortly after I got here.”
The cop held his hand out. I handed him my old phone. He remarked, “It’s still recording.”
“Oh. I must have forgotten to hit stop.”
“That’s fine.”
The cop hit stop, then played the video. He watched it until the point when Sean took off to his room.
“I’ll need to hold onto this.”
“I figured as much. It’s an old phone.”
Then he started asking questions. The first one was what made me come here. I explained to him a little of Sean’s antics, trying to make me crazy and obviously, get into Ryan’s pants.
It was about a half hour later by the time he got everything from me he could. By then, Sean’s mother had come home and was frantically trying to get my cop to tell her what was going on. I thought it was kind of funny that he kept putting her off until he finished with me.
Finally, he got another cop to drive me home. I asked if I could go in and get Ryan’s clothes. Apparently, they were evidence, so I wasn’t allowed to. Then I realized, Sean’s fingerprints would be on Ryan’s belt.
When we got to my house, he just dropped me off and headed toward Ryan’s house. I could just imagine Ryan’s dad blowing a gasket when he heard Sean attacked Ryan.
I went in and described to mom what happened, leaving out a couple personal details I’m sure Ryan wouldn’t want anyone else to know. Tyler called while I was talking to mom, but I had to tell him I’d call him later.
A little while later, mom started cooking dinner and the doorbell rang.
“Can you get that, Randy?”
“Sure, mom.”
I opened the door to see Mr. Hatcher.
“Hi Randy.”
“Hello, Mr. Hatcher.”
“I’m heading to the hospital, so we’ll talk later, but I wanted to thank you for watching out for Ryan and stopping this Sean kid from doing anything worse.”
“You’re welcome. I’m glad I got there in time. Is Ryan ok?”
“All the police told me was he was unconscious. So, I don’t know.”
“Can you let me know when you find out?”
“Of course. I’ll be back later.”
“Okay. Bye.”
I went into the kitchen.
“Who was that at the door?”
“Ryan’s dad. He’s heading to the hospital but he wanted to thank me. He said he’ll be back later to let me know how Ryan is.”
“Good. I’d like to meet him.”
That should be interesting.
