February C S R Discussion Day: Harry Potter Fanfic By Myr

February has come and gone, and just where did the time go? I have no idea, personally. It feels like Christmas ended just yesterday. Hopefully you avoided the cold (or heat) outside and took advantage of some downtime to read one, or more, of Myr's Harry Potter fanfiction short stories that were featured at the start of the month. Check out my interview with Myr, and make sure you share your thoughts in the comments.

 

Describe your perfect writing space.
My perfect writing space is someplace quiet that is otherwise isolated from distractions. My mancave would be a great example. I even have a proper Harry Potter inspirational poster

I like Vanyel too, and I actually tried writing some fanfic with him - mostly to please my cousin, who wanted 'the omitted sex scenes' :*)  Glad I'm not the only guy who admits to reading Valdemar novels, apart from Van, my favorite character is Herald Alberich.

I liked your Harry P fanfic and I think you hit the tone of the Potter universe quite well.

When you're done with the PD story, will you please, please, return to your ranger story? :worship:

First of all, great interview, Cia. I read all of these during a reading binge, and I have to say I enjoyed them all. While I really liked Myr's favorite, and understand why he picked it, my favorite was Sky Full of Stars. The idea of Ron and Draco was mind boggling to me, but Myr made it work while keeping the character's actions and dialogue believable. without giving any spoilers, I'm a sucker for tenderness, and thought the ending perfect.

 

The question I would have asked is one Myr has already answered, as to what he likes about writing fanfiction as opposed to original stories. It was an illuminating answer, and I would just add my two cents from a reader's perspective... we already know these characters so well, so we are engaged from the get go, and I am learning to appreciate that part of it. Thanks :)

I love Mercedes Lackey's stuff.  I have all of her Valdemar novels and her Joust series and a couple others. I haven't gotten into her urban fantasy one yet though.  I like Lavan Firestorm from Brightyly Burning a lot after Vanyel. 

And I have a lot of stories that I've at least thought about in the Rangers universe.  Including a novel length thing.  Just time time time.  As always.  Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed the stories.

Well, for Sky Full of Stars... they say the line between love and hate can get blurred.  either way you look at it, Draco and Ron have a passionate way of interacting.  So Sky was an experiment. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

 

FanFiction readers love the original so much they want more.  That makes them pretty hungry (and they can be pretty vicious when you veer of course too much without a clear, believable reason why).  But there is a new power of FanFiction too... The Crossover. There are some very interesting crossovers. There is one Harry Potter/Game of Thrones crossover that is particularly naughty that I eagarly await each update..

I had just taken a sip of my coffee when I read this earlier this morning and ended up choking so I didn't spew it all over my computer screen. lol I have to admit not being a huge fan of fan fiction until I gave some of the Star Trek - The Next Generation fan fiction novels a try in the late '90s.  I enjoyed them a lot more than I thought I would.  I've read one of your HP stories so far, and will check out the rest when I get a chance.  I loved all of your stories that I've read so far and will join the legions calling for more of your Ranger stories.  

 

I don't really have any questions since the interview pretty much covered anything I wanted to ask.  Nice man cave, BTW.  :)

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed them. I've got a lot of my Ranger ideas written down and a few ten thousands of words written in that world.  Just need time and a good strong plot. ;)

 

And thanks on the man cave too.  :)  Did almost all the work myself (Enough to say, don't hire me to do finish work!)  Would you believe that is inside a barn? :D
