No Limits on Word counts i.e. no limit to min or max, No limits on format, and no limits on technique.....
Horror fiction began as experimental, unstructured, and range from poetry to epic novels. M
Here's my take on the US situation:
Something has to give in the US:
It's political in-fighting every night. Come on, as a society, this type of stuff has to be settled once and for all.
If a government shutdown occurs, then the US defaults, let's see what happens:
"If" the prediction of doom and gloom are over-dramatized by political pundits and news reporters, then we know that not all government operations are necessary, nor is our business relations dependent on a Federal gov
I was surfing around the web and came upon an interesting quote that touched my heart:
It's about a guy, who can not love, so must let that person go. Yet, paradoxically, if he could start the entire thing over again, he'd love this person with all his heart.
"if you can't give happiness to the person you love, you should let them go. But if we can start over, I would choose to keep you, use all my strength, and give you happiness."
I like emotional paradoxes; it reveals more about
From the little household budget of a thousand dollars a month to a small business with millions a month to a Corporation with billions a month to a nation with hundreds of billions a month, everyone makes hard choices.
An economy is not fair, not equal, and not even efficient, when you actually look deeper at it. Sure you can use plots and algorithms to figure out general Alphas to Delta trends that makes things easy to project and look smooth on the eyes, but human reasoning is not always
I am opening the doors to my novel with the introduction:

As I said, I want to pursue eastern Fantasy in the modern era; push the limits of science fiction and traditions to the brink.
I also have developed my villain far more over the last few weeks. This is not the Nine-Tailed Fox of Naruto or even classic Chinese and Japanese fiction, I am going to pursue a re-interpretation of the entire character with modern views. The fox is a vi
I know GA has not done anything yet official for Halloween, but do any writers want to try writing a horror story and set it to show on Oct 31st?
It's not my forte, but I'd love to try and have some fun with writing a spooky story. and it'd be great to share this with others
To make it more interesting than a random horror story, what if each writer can only use one Horror plot theme and no other author can use the same.
I don't anticipate this to be a huge thing and maybe no one wan
Thanks Brink for translating, you were the first one to recognize it as the opening lines to the Tao Te Ching.
道可道非常道, 名可名非常名
Most of far eastern philosophy has either roots or been influenced by the book; even when cultures don't hold Taoist religious principles, there are philosophical points that extend outwards towards Buddhism, several Indian religions, and scientific principles.
I translate it a little differently than you do Brink:
"The way that is known is not the true wa
No politics for today's blog as I don't want to go into the DC shooting, I do give my sincerest prayers for the 14 injured people from the incident, who are still in the hospital, and 12 dead. Others will argue on the points, everywhere else.
I want to talk about nothing really important....just the quality of food. I went to a Caribbean sandwich shop, Dominican based, and I wanted to try their Sour Sop and pickled ham sandwich. It tasted good, but I paid for it later.
I have had the run
I was bored today and wanted to catch up on TV that I missed last year, which turns out to be a lot better than I thought. The show of choice was: Hannibal, based of Silence of the Lamb and Red Dragon character Hannibal Lecter.
I was not originally interested, but I read the reviews and tried it out. It was incredibly interesting, disturbing, and psychologically educational, like watching a progressive drama about the root of sanity and insanity in the modern world. Sure, the guy eats people
One political blog posts for old times sake
As I am writing a story exploring the Far East and Asian cultures, basically going to my roots, I am hit with an odd conundrum from the other side.
Everyone, Republican and Democrat, is using terms like "Exceptional" and "American Values", sounds interesting on a sound bite, but I don't really get it. The American people are deeply divided right now over a million issues, there really is no clear "American Value" that can be described as "Exce
Okay, I will wait, because I want to separate the new story I am working on from anthology authors/readers, giving both breathing room.
This is the Modern Eastern Fantasy/Sci-Fi novel, which incorporates myths and legends of Asia, exploring Taoism, Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, Tengriism, Zoroastrianism, and several other Asian religious/philosophical ideologies with a modern scientific twist.
Within a week or two, I will officially ask for Betas and an Editor. If you guys want to work wi
Alright, last background detail and a note for Asamav
Note: In my novel, when he does come into the picture, I split off two separate concepts about the monkey King. In "Journey to the West", it is mentioned that he attained an immortal body due to his consumption of immortal fruits, immortal pills, and other things in heaven. I took that idea and thought about its implications to ascension in both the Buddhist concept and how I want the concept to work in my novel. The monkey king would ne
Another Teaser
If I am going to write with eastern mythology, folklore, traditions, philosophies, and religions in mind; I can't ignore the subject of strange beings.
Now, I can write them all off as Aliens, which would work for my scientific premise, but I think that's a blatant act of bad writing and imagination nowadays. Sure a few could have been alien astronauts, but it does not do the ancient stories justice.
In my novel, some monsters and demons are results of ancient Taoist
Another Background blog entry, I am such a big tease
This is going to be novel, a real full length one. If it is something that really gets going, who knows.
The Five Elements:
In Asian mysticism, there are several well known elemental concepts that Eastern beliefs based their entire religious and philosophical principles on. There are differences between cultures and views on what elements belong in the cycle. For instance, Japanese tradition have the "Wind" and "Void" elements in
Before I post my story, I want to first establish some common concepts.
In ancient China, there were many superstitions about Taoism and Taoists followers, including their ability to perform magic, increase a human lifespan, and communicate with spirits, Gods, and other beings beyond the realm of man. The mystic tradition of Taoism still believes in the powerful potential of studying Taoist texts like the Tao te Ching and performing traditional rituals that were borrowed from spiritualists d
Something in the air is just making me very political (There's not even a soapbox anymore, but I just feel a surge of energy). I know, I will behave and not post politics in chat or forum areas, but only in my blogs
I was just reflecting on American sensibilities over the last 40 years. I think if Watergate were to happen today under the Obama administration, few would bat an eye lash or the US senate attempt to push for impeachment. Woodward and Bernstein would probably be summarily detai

I've been standing on the sidelines for a while, not wanting to weigh in on the NSA secret intelligence operations and other issues, but the detainment of an innocent family member of a Press reporter just stepped over all the lines of this Conservative. Even I have a line in the sand, when it comes to security arrangements and investigations.
We have real issues in this world, real threats from id
I really do enjoy writing realism into stories; I know it's not pure fiction and there's something interesting about reflecting on your life in a story. You guys can probably pick up various reasons why I am not a great boyfriend from reading my story, I freely admit it, too. I failed to read deeper into the romantic nature of my own relationship; perhaps, I don't know if it was a real relationship or a friendship that could never get launched. Perhaps, I was right in the beginning of it all; th
I will be up in Canada next week. Toronto-Montreal area. It is kind of ironic as I am going and he's coming back, but will be interesting.
So as a forewarning Chapter 9-the end will be delayed in posting until next Saturday of Language of Love.
As for the story:
I know Chapter 7 touched on a foreign local hot button issues that most of you guys probably either don't care about or don't even realized existed. Dog meat consumption is a Chinese cultural problem; it's a complex issue, wh
An observation that I need to answer on my story's word length:
Yes, I know, my chapters are really short for Language of Love.
It's actually intentional. In the modern world, we don't write 10,000-20,000 to describe a day on our blogs or texts, at least for the average person. We shorten and compress it down to 1,000-2,000 words. I could easily make this story longer by adding more descriptions, color, and other facets of my culture or his culture. However, that's not the essence of mod
First, I was kind of worried that my story was too Chinese and might have been a little too "Cultural". It felt natural to write based on personal experience and things happening around me. It's a fun writing style and it allows me to write a lot faster and more naturally without worrying about technical terms or financial concepts. One reason why I am churning out a chapter a day.
As for some of the more controversial topics touched on, I know I pushed the envelope a bit. In Chapter 3, I ma
Life is weird and sometimes you don't expect things to happen in a chain. Dating is complicated, you don't even need to read my entire story to get that part. Language of Love is different and strange for me, it's a writing that has no ending and the love is in flux with my life. The chances are pretty high that this might end in disappointment for me and my readers, but everyone is hoping and crossing their fingers for Happily Ever After.
Writing about your own life, it's weird, but it feel
My mourning is over for lucky, I still miss him, but I feel like I can finally return to writing again.
Some interesting things have happened to me during this time and it is impacting my writing.
I will go into more depth with an example of a possible new story later this week.
Anyway, here's a picture of Lucky, so you guys know how he looked in life.
He was my best friend for 12 years. I didn't deserve his loyalty or his love, he just gave it without a reason.
I don't know what to say, my dog is gone and I do not know what to say.
I will dedicate a poem to him:
I Was Lucky To Have You
You were always in my heart
Greater than any lover
Greater than any partner
For with you
I knew
I had a friend
I remember our first meeting
You were small
You were light

I was watching a re-run of American Greed, a TV show about real life frauds and pyramid schemes. As I watched the episode, I was reminded of something I came upon during my research for my novel, the Big Squeeze. Most of the senior executives of Mortgage, financial, and legal system were never indicted or sentenced to jail time, except one very interesting exception, Lee Farkas of TB&W.
Lee Farkas was one of the richest openly gay CEO's, if not the richest gay executive, in the 2000's. H
