What should I write about

A story idea or too outlandish?

I just got an idea last night about a story set in Hollywood California about a special agency that works for the big studios.   Sounds simple and easy enough, but here's the twist, they aren't the standard movie star agents, deal breakers, or Entourage-like groups that make people smile. These people are there to dig dirty secrets of the stars or even create them.   They would be the one's behind the curtain, filming sex tapes, getting movie stars into compromising situations, arranging dru

A little local Massachusetts politics

Sometimes, I think Democrats overreact too quickly before they consider everyone else. Republicans fall into the same on a national level as well.   http://www.wbur.org/2013/02/02/democrats-3                 The humor was that Democrats were preparing for Scott Brown to run again for Senate, because he had the best chances of winning. Everything was set to take down the Republican front man, but Scott Brown hadn't even decided to enter the fight again.   I applaud Scott Brown for n

Strange things in life

I will leave this blog short for now, but I think I need to write something. A short story is now in my head that cannot be removed. I don't know if it is the right thing to do or the wrong thing, but I have to write out and play it in my mind.   Hope my favorite editor NNN is still up to the challenge.   The Big Squeeze is still being written, so don't worry, I haven't abandoned that story.

Ugh....Prayer during dim sum for each dish

This just happened about 5 hours ago, my family were heading out for our weekly saturday morning dim sum meal, which is sort of like the Chinese version of brunch.   As we were sitting down in a crowded restaurant and waiting for our food, two middle age Chinese girls came in and "dap tor" (Chinese saying for "sharing tables") with us. It's not the first time we shared a table with others and it is pretty natural in large restaurants among Chinese people as large tables can not usually be used

Interesting SF may rename airport after Harvey Milk

http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/15/travel/san-francisco-harvey-milk-airport/index.html?hpt=hp_bn10   Nothing groundbreaking or politically charged, at least for gay guys. It seems interesting that the SF airport may be renamed after one of the first openly gay politician in the US. It's also a good sign for international recognition in small ways that SF is open to all walks of life. (Though Boston is still a good alternative ).   Who knows, maybe Boston Logan Airport will be renamed the Gerry S

Who wants a Death Star that costs $850 Quadrillion?

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/01/11/white-house-responds-to-death-star-petition-no/   So who wants to build a Death Star, I mean we might need slave labor and a fleet of star destroyers to guard it, but hey it can blow up planets (We need to get rid of a few dwarf planets anyway, like Pluto )   For contractors, we definitely need a Sith lord, we will offer generous terms like a dimly lit throne room near the power core (Guard rails optional), and if he does a good job, who knows

Giv'em hell Christie, I can't believe he went all out

Just my two cents in support of Christie's short speech and press conference:   I have to make a political comment on this, because it is so rare and something that needs a round of applause from everyone. It was unapologetic, strong, and aggressively real. Things that the Republican party of the 21st century seems to lack. It also did something I was hoping to see more from Northern Republicans, be blunt about the Hypocrisy of Southern Red States and the federal aid that goes there. I never e

Some thoughts about this new world

I wrote a poem this morning about the end of an era and I want to explain it.   Today 12/21/2012 marks the end of an age/era in Mayan calendars. However, what type of era, do we live in now?   Gay rights is winning left and right, gay marriage seems on the cusp of success and the majority of people no longer thinks of us as mentally ill. The religious fanatics are dying out along with a generation of hate mongers, racists, and generally "bad" people. Science is reaching greater heights and g

Tragedy, Writing, and the Hobbit- Some Recap from WL

First I want my prayers and hopes to go out to those kids killed today in Connecticut, it was so sad to hear. I am not going to be picking up a picket sign to outlaw the 2nd amendment anytime soon, but we have seen just too much tragedy from gun related crimes in recent months. I am just tired of hearing about tragedies and tired of seeing innocent blood spilled over random acts of violence. Something has to be done about gun ownership in the US, whether it is by state law or national law.   A

Back from Florida with some changes, fun memories, and an odd sense of peace

Well, as I said, I went to West Palm Beach over the week.   The trip was a business oriented session that was both fun and interesting. I've usually been able to control my drinking to prevent myself from going into la-la land, but I did not during the staff Christmas party down there. Two coke and rums, plus 3 glasses of Chardonnay in two hours, I had my very first black out in years.   I don't know if everyone experiences the same things during a black out, but mine was very odd and sort o

Fantasizing about a cute hispanic janitor

Alright let me just explain this without political correctness; I was working a little late the other night and the janitors came in. I wanted to say hello and introduce myself, with the new job and all. One of the guys caught my eye though.   He was probably late twenties or early thirties, had black hair, small tight build almost zero muscle mass, and had a very thick spanish accent. He wore an erring on his right ear, which I hoped means he's my kind of guy and not just in it for a fashion

Holiday mood and Hope in the World

There's something about this of year, when people and things just make you happier and feel good about life. The Holiday period is fun and exciting, people have hopes for the future.   I don't know whether it's the colorful displays of lights, faux green wreaths with red bows, or the shoppers that pack the buses at night, but the mood is different. For a few moments, you can almost forget that the world is hanging by a thread, civilization is putting itself in debt and its future generations.

Some life and fear to ponder

Now back to reality and normalcy, I might be a trekkie, but I am a realist stuck in a world that needs answers.   My last day is this Wednesday at my current firm. The staff are throwing me a farewell potluck on Tuesday. It feels strange that I will be saying goodbye to them all after so many years, but that's life isn't it.   As my prior status indicated my new job has already booked me on a flight to Palm Beach Florida from 12/3 to 7. I know what this means for my future traveling plans, b

One more Star Trek Review to get this geekiness out of my system

As I said I am a huge fan and I just finished the latest Typhon Pact Mini-series novel, Brinksmanship :   Spoiler Alert!   To begin this series review, I must first tell you a bit on what happened after the Dominion War. Gene Roddenberry's United Federation of Planets is no longer as naive or idealistic as it once was. The Universe after the war has become a very hostile and unstable place. With the Borg invasion about a year ago, the entire balance of power has unraveled throughout the gala

A Review of a Star Trek Novel: VOY The Eternal Tide

Outside of politics and other interest, one thing that might surprise people partially is that I am an avid follower of Star Trek novels, especially the re-launch titles for Deep Space Nine, Generation, and Voyager. They are considered Canon based on Star Trek timeline after the Dominion War and Voyager's return from the Deltar Quadrant. Yes, I freely admit to be a gay trekkie.   While I do know there are Star Trek fans here on GA, I do not know if there are as many novel fans.   Sorry if I

I got a job offer, yay! Feels like Charlie after Golden ticket

Seriously, I feel like I just got the golden ticket. It's not the best job in the world, but it is at least paying me a fair salary based on my ability, education, and licensing. I''ll get a signing bonus, a staff of three people, and an annual increase based on corporate operations. However, it's better than working for next to nothing, getting promoted and taking on responsibilities that belong to others, and never getting any respect.   My position will be just a senior level accountant, b

Why am I still such a Romantic, when I am so Rational? fixed typo

The job is ugly, my numbers don't see any light at the end of the tunnel if we keep this up. I am awaiting a Board meeting to make a presentation of my findings and hope some of our outside directors can see the inherent flaws in internal management. Heck, even portions of senior management are siding with me (partially to save their own asses, sad but true).   Outside of work...I have just found my new favorite gay movie: From Beginning to End   http://youtu.be/BH6vtx3HVB8   This movie wa

Will have to be off GA for a day or so....

Crazy shit happened today as I just found another $250,000 in costs and problems with cashflow with these contracts that senior management agreed to.   Need to do a cash flow analysis, sorry if I am late with Chapter 2 of Big Squeeze.   Here's a little reminder of me for you guys:

Big Bird had two gay dads! I'm serious

The two creators of Big Bird were a gay couple, Christopher Lyall and Kermit Love (Nope he didn't create the frog)   http://www.queerty.com/turns-out-big-bird-is-the-child-of-two-gay-dads-20121011/   I didn't know that, now all those years of adoring the big Yellow Bird's mannerism makes sense, I think

A Special Thank You to MikeL

Yes, you old Frog, I promised I'd thank you properly.   MikeL helped me out with editing the Introduction of The Big Squeeze, today. He's the best kind of reader a writer can get, some one who is willing to interact with the writer on fixing flaws and improving the story. I wanted to thank him properly as an outside contributor. I know Mike, you can't join my team of Editors and Betas (I pay people in kibbles and bones, not flies ), but I still think you deserve some acknowledgement for being

Welcome to the New W.L and his writing style

First I want to thank my Team:   NotNoNever- Thanks for keeping me anchored to the vernacular and keeping the story simple enough for readers BlueSoxWSJ- Thanks for being my secondary source for finance information as we both come from different viewpoints, it's a thrill to do this together. SidLove- You are a great beta and insightful on ideas. I will need to work with you and Blue on the financial appendix very soon, so readers can track back on meanings Harcallard- Don't worry Harc, you

I started it and began my introductions into the story

Okay, I have started it and began my introductions into the characters.   http://www.gayauthors.org/forums/story/w-l/thebigsqueeze   There are three perspectives in this story with 2008 Financial crisis as its moving plot point. I am creating a modern gay business fiction story with technical details embedded in the story and descriptions on how modern finance actually works.   My three characters present three views from which forms the greatest crisis of our recent history:   Mike- the

Alright, I am going to Reinvent myself and my writing

I am going to try to reinvent myself and my stories.   I really do write too cerebral for my own good or readers. I need to create a story with characters people can easily understand, plots that are fact filled but not going to be too rich with connections, and a concept that people get right away.   I love economics and business issues, but I don't use it as the basis of my writing. I don't know why, since I've read freakonomics several times and know it can be fun.   I mean I write stor
