Some writing concerns

Over the past few months I have noticed the readership of my stories has gone down, not only that, but the number of likes and reviews has dropped as well. I know some of it was due to the break from writing that i took when i switched jobs, but I am also trying to determine if it is the pacing of the stories, the content, the fact that I have four stories going at once, or some other factor that I have not figured out yet. I'd like to figure it out and improve my writing but it is difficult when chapters get 100+ views consistently, but 3 or fewer reviews most times. I feel like I am muddling along without any clear idea of where I am going wrong. How are so many of you able to cultivate followers who review/feedback consistently? Is it the number of stories, should I consider putting some on the back burner? I've found myself wondering if I should continue to work on some of the stories, if they haven't derailed or become uninteresting and just need to be brought to an end. Any help would be appreciated.

I've found it to be consistent posting of stories readers enjoy. If they know they get to come here every 4 days, or every Friday, or whenever, and get another fix, they tend to be more regular. Engage your readers, talk to them in the end of chapter notes. Solicit feedback on specifics: What did you think about this or that's character's thought about this event? Can so and so BE more obnoxious?

The amount of participation you have toward other authors' work, via reviews, comments in forum story topics, activity on the site writing topics, etc... can help keep you noticeable. Feedback is great, but remember, reads are feedback in a way too.

I agree with Cia, especially on the reads and the "likes" also.  I've noticed a lot of our authors "you included" that have great stories but get a lot more "likes" and views than reviews.  :)

It's the same for me.  My current story gets 400+ views per chapter, more "likes" per chapter than the other stories I've posted here, yet only get 4 or 5 reviews.

I'm certainly not knocking it, and I'm greatful to those who do take the time to read my stories.

I think part of the reason for a lack of reviews is that many readers don't simply want to leave "Yeah, I liked it" as a review, but because they can't think of anything to add beyond that they don't leave one.

Thanks guys :) I've been getting worried looking at the numbers for some of my stories, wondering where I went wrong and how to turn it around, especially on the ones where even the views have gone down. The new ones not so worried about, since its likly taking folks time to decide if they want to keep reading, but when i saw the numbers on Guitars 2 dropping as well, it really had me concerned that i'd gone of the rails so to speak.

I am one of those people who don't leave reviews very often. (Sorry to all of you wonderful authors.)

Why? Usually I don't know what to say. Most chapters are great but, to be honest, I feel silly just posting "That was great!" after every chapter. Should I be doing that anyway? [Please let me know.]

I don't (ever) want to be critical of a chapter. You authors spend so much of your time creating interesting stories and places to "visit". You don't deserve criticism. I don't want to try to rush your work either. I've tried writing a few things and it takes a lot of time to get a story the way you want it and to polish it.

I applaud each and every one of you and have always hoped that my "likes" make you feel good. I'd give you all a hug if I could. You're all so talented and generous. Thank you from the depths of my heart.
