I mistook it for a person that drinks a lot of beer.  Thai bowlers here in Chiang Mai often spend the evening drinking huge amounts of beer at the few bowling alleys in the city.  By the end of the evening you might see quite a few of the bowlers like shown in the picture!

From what I found out online, bowling was a religious ritual in medieval Germany.  The pins represented sinners and the bowler's faith was determined by how many pins he could knock down with a round stone.  🤔
