I'd watch out if I were you.  @Geron Kees might take exception to the use of 'dilapidated' in the definition.  :gikkle:

It's all in how you say the word. If you say 'jalopy' with affection, it's a great car. If you can't help but to laugh or cry while using that word, you need to look for another ride! :)

I remember a friend of mine taking a test flight in a plane he was thinking about buying. You'd think having to reinflate the tires and jump it off would have given him pause, but no. He not only took off, but with his entire family. They get to altitude and the engine stops. He did get it restarted and back to the airport. Now that piece of junk was a jalopy.

That shows a great deal of faith in technology on your friend's part,  and something of a lack of common sense about life!

Why? He's not dilapidated.

Not yet, anyway!

No, but he definitely loves old cars that are restored and improved to maximize their speed.  Muscle cars.  I had a lot of learning to do when I read his Rules of the Road and Road of Dreams.  It's a good thing I was at least old enough to at least remember some of the cars in his stories.

And I don't think I used the word 'jalopy' even once!

He has an official title before his name, dumbass. His family and friends all use it.

Well, you might not have used the word Jalopy in the Road series stories, I haven't read them yet so can't say. But I'm reading, The House of Storms right now, and you did use the word jalopy in that story. 😁

"The Princess was Chip's old jalopy, which he was always trying to 'soup up' into a hot rod."

Yes. I thought of this story when raven mentioned Geron.

I read The House of Storms about three weeks ago.  I guess I need to go back and read Rules of the Road and Road of Dreams again soon.

I did use 'jalopy' in The House of Storms. Mostly because the writers of the Hardy Boys series used it in their tales! :)
