There was a time you had to seek out farce. Now I simply have to watch the news.

Just of our curiosity, is the use of the word farce due to the British use of the word 'arse'?  Possibly they're talking about ideas that seem to come out of one's ass?

No, farce came from French and arse is the original Anglo-Saxon word for ass.
