The Scot's use ilk as a pronoun to describe a landed family with their same named estate, as in the Crandalls of that ilk rather than the Crandalls of Crandall

This leads me to another irritating habit of people: if they are able to pronounce ilk, then why do they pronounce milk as melk?

Could this be a regional dialect? Like tomato, potato, roof, etc? Here, and I did some random testing, everyone sez milk with a M in front of a ilk. :unsure:
