When I first saw that Blackthorn was the word of the day, I thought if might be a group like Blackwater.

The blackthorn is also used for the shillelagh. It makes a nearly indestructible walking stick or weapon. The English passed all manner of laws to limit the Irish from weapons, but you can't ban walking sticks.

This is one of my favorites. It has the heft of a baseball bat.

I know!!! I see those all over the place. The fruit looks so much like a blueberry, until you taste it :o Now I finally know what they are called :gikkle:
