In a normal family, the major outlays are for groceries, housing, utilities, transportation (either a car or public transportation), apparel, medical/dental, insurance (all types), gas/petrol, internet/cable, cell/mobile phones, and debt payments.

I'm going to buy a 2019 Toyota Tacoma and am a little shocked at the outlay required.

Interestingly, a synonym of the verb form of outlay is lay out, but the noun form of outlay doesn't have an equivalent synonym under the word layout.
