I really do love this genre, wish more would attempt it but know it isn't for everyone.  A good story with a western setting is hard to come by, but when it hits, few things are better.

Here in California, is an abandoned ghost town in what was Bodie California, a mining town that in its hey day, 1877 to 1880, grew in upwards of ten thousand people searching for their fortune. There are over 100 original buildings still standing one can peruse at their leisure. There was a saying back then, Bad Men From Bodie, testifying to the harsh, violent times during this time period. Simply by saying this phrase, conjured up images of the lawlessness in Bodie at this time.

I have outlined and drafted a story set in this timeframe, a sci-fi western, that I hope to write one day. I love westerns, and agree there aren't enough good ones written any more.

Thanks so much, Cane!!! I have come to love writing westerns--they make me happy--and I have a new one percolating in my cluttered brain. :)
