Site Administrator Graeme Posted September 21, 2008 Site Administrator Posted September 21, 2008 I have a special request for the GA membership. We are looking to hold a special anthology in 2009 that is based on an image, rather than a theme. To do, so, however, we need an image that suggests a story, without being restrictive on what that story will be. The image could be a scene from the start, the middle or the end of the story, or maybe just an image that evokes a range of possible emotions. I am therefore asking the GA members to send possible images as an attachment to anthology@gayauthors.org There is no prize, apart from seeing that image used for a special anthology. I'd like to offer something more, but echidnas tend not be particular affluent A few rules: Pornographic images are strictly prohibited. The image must be either in the public domain, or copyrighted by the person submitting it. Drawings, paintings and photographs are all acceptable. Multiple submissions can be made, but please be reasonable. You don't have to be a GA member to submit an image. The person submitting the image retains copyright (if appropriate), but grants to Gay Authors a perpetual non-cancelable right to use the image in relation to the proposed 2009 special anthology. The right for Gay Authors to resize the image to an appropriate size for displaying on web pages will also be granted. Image submissions close on 1st December. The decision on which image to use will be made by the Gay Authors Anthology Coordinator. I'm looking forward to seeing what will be submitted Please remember that the image chosen will be viewed by a wide range of people, so please keep that in mind when you are submitting your images. Good luck, everyone, and thank you in advance to everyone who submits a picture. Graeme GA Anthology Coordinator

So no nudity then. *grins* All jokes aside, I do have an image in mind, but I need to check with my publisher first before I submit it. It may end up with me having to make another similar to you, but I'll send an image in regardless. 3D art is acceptable, yes?

As long as a normal browser can display the image, it's acceptable I've seen some excellent 3D art and I'd love to see what you've got in mind. Personally, I have no real ability to draw or paint, but I've seen some great graphics that I've assumed were done by members here which is why I opened this challenge up to the membership. Graeme

Graeme If you have a size preference in mind, that'd be great to know. I generally render rather large images so they are fit for print as that's mostly what I do with them, so if you know what size would be most effective, I'll render it that size.

Gee you ask difficult questions.... The short answer is that I don't know what size we'll have the final image. I would suspect that if you render it to 1024x768, any resizing after that point will have a minimal impact. Does that sound reasonable to you? I didn't want to specify sizes in the original request, though I made a note that images may need to be resized. That was to allow someone to send through a high-resolution picture if they wanted, and then we could resize it, if needed. However, it sounds like you know a lot more about this sort of thing than I do
Tiger Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) I know what I want to do. I even know the location! Edited September 24, 2008 by Tiger

I can make any size image at high res actually, and even at 1024x768 it should resize no problem. So I'll just make a couple images and shoot them to you. I can't use the one I wanted because the art book it's in won't hit the shelves til December.
Site Administrator Graeme Posted October 20, 2008 Author Site Administrator Posted October 20, 2008 Just a reminder to all the artistic members If you're capable of drawing (like I'm not), but aren't sure what to draw, just send me a PM or email (graeme@gayauthors.org). I've got a number of ideas, but I lack the talent to turn them into something decent
Kanaye Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 Does it matter how well the actual art is? I can draw and paint a bit but what I have in mind...I dunno how well it will come out. Ill attempt if it doesnt have to be 100% professional. If you want to see a sample of my painting skills, Im DiamondLeaf on Deviantart.com

Verm Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Is there a certain art style wanted, or can artists of any genres participate? I consider myself a comic/manga artist (tho I do realism once in a while), so I'm unsure if that style is acceptable or if its what you are looking for.

Sorry to take so long to respond, but I've been offline for a couple of days. Any style is fine. The picture I saw a couple of years ago that someone else was using for this sort of anthology was in the manga style and it gave the authors lots of options for writing about what was in the picture. Good luck!

Thanks for clearing that up anyway, I'll try to whip up something good for you guys
Site Administrator Graeme Posted November 30, 2008 Author Site Administrator Posted November 30, 2008 I've sent my submission, hope you get it Got it, thanks!
Site Administrator Graeme Posted December 4, 2008 Author Site Administrator Posted December 4, 2008 (edited) Thank you for everyone who has contributed. I really appreciate the work everyone has put in. I'm going to review the pictures over the next month or two before I make a decision on what happens next. However, I really wanted to express my thanks to those who have helped. THANK YOU!!!! PS: If anyone wants to put in a late submission, please feel free. I'm not going to reject a good picture just because it's after the posted deadline. Edited December 4, 2008 by Graeme
David McLeod Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Not affluent? I understand the Zaglossus clan winters in Palm Springs. Seriously, though, this is a great idea for setting a theme for an anthology. I found this forum much too late to offer input, but I'm looking forward to your announcement.
Dolores Esteban Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 Graeme, I was just wondering. Is the Special Anthology cancelled?
Former Member Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 I think it may've turned into the writing competition
Site Administrator Graeme Posted August 28, 2009 Author Site Administrator Posted August 28, 2009 Graeme, I was just wondering. Is the Special Anthology cancelled? It won't be this year. I don't know at this stage if this idea will happen next year. Sorry. I'd love to be able to say it's going ahead, but I just don't know.

Now we know what will draw you out of retirement. I'd say any of your images would be inspirational.

Graeme GA Anthology Coordinator Hi Graeme, I am bit confused (nothing new there) but did this image submission request receive entries? Did one get chosen? Will we be able to see some of the submissions? I am curious since art is one of my passions...not that the 63 images in my gallery would give it away... maybe putting the submissions in a gallery of its own so we could peruse it? I'd love to submit something next time
