So we buried my uncle today. :( It was a very long day, but I ended up making it much longer. The family went to a restaurant after and we ordered drinks. I had some odd drink that was on special. I kind of regret having it now because of what happened after that. Ok I

Be very, very careful mixing alcohol and pills of any kind. The results can highly unpredictable.

If you are old enough to remember Karen Anne Quinlin, the first high profile right to die case, she slipped into a coma after having a drink and some valium. She stopped breating long enough for brain damage to set in before they could get her breathing again.

Condolences to you & your family, Bardeara.

James is right about being very careful with meds & alcohol.

Another thought about that episode: it sounds a little bit like sleep paralysis, which is when you can't move just before falling asleep or right after waking up. Your episode was a tad on the long side, though. There doesn't have to be any underlying disorder, but if you've ever had periods of weakness without a preceding period of unconsciousness, particularly in the setting of intense emotion (e.g., inability to squeeze tightly, or getting weak at the knees, right after hearing a funny joke), that could be something called cataplexy (click here for brief explanation). It wouldn't hurt to see a neurologist. (Much better than random opinions off an internet board!)

Again, my sympathies about your uncle. :(

So I thought I would send an update on my great luck. Thanks for support Mr. Luka; I forgot you check the boards out regular. James & libbonobo thanks for the tips; I shall not be making that mistake again. I

Bardeara,

While I absolutely hate to agree with a neurologist, I agree with him that yoou need to see one. Do not trust the opinion of an ER doc, or a hospital staff physician. Clearly you have lasting neurological issues resulting from the 'episode'. When the first neurologist is a complete ass, remember that they all are so finding one with any sort of civil attitude is next to impossible. So, try to focus on the medical advice and ignore the personality.
