FairyTaleSkies Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Im not exactly convinced about hostels.... im a little too old.... I like the creature comforts of a well appointed hotel.... But, Westie, not all hostels are bad and in all fairness not everyone can afford a hotel. I know a good handful of hostels in London and we'd probably be able to get a group discount from one or two of them. But if you really want a hotel, I know of one that might do us a group discount. My best friends Uncle owns one in Waterloo, I may be able to ask nicely and see if he'll give us a discount. I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Oyster had a daily fare cap. I thought the cap was
Daisy Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 If I come I will probably be staying with friends. Only way I'll be able to afford it and what I always do when I visit London.
Johnathan Colourfield Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Well i'm up for the whole coffee shop idea Sounds like my kind of thing we will just tag along with nephy XD
Johnathan Colourfield Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Ooo also I stayed a couple of years ago in a hostel called the YHA It was a very good place with okay food http://www.yha.org.uk/find-accommodation/london/index.aspx Its basically a cheap hotel but it is very central i think Just an idea Its rooms for either 2 or 4 and its single sex
Westie Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 (edited) But, Westie, not all hostels are bad and in all fairness not everyone can afford a hotel. I'm sure they're not.... but I'm still going to book into a hotel. I think the point is that if groups want to get together to sort out a group booking, that is obviously their choice. However for those of us with parculiarities or certain needs (such as my need to be spoiled and pampered), I think we need to consider that people are going to make their own arrangements. Nephylim Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Well I'm totally crap at organising anything. So get me a bed somewhere, point me in the right direction from the train and then come and get me when I end up in Leicester.
Johnathan Colourfield Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Hehe Awww If you end up in leicster Nephy you can come live with me for the few days I live a 20 minute train ride away XD I'm thinking maybe we set up a list of people who want to stay in hotels privately and those who wouldnt mind staying in a hostel of some kind. So here it goes Could people please sign up for what they would prefer either Hotel, Hostel or Alternative We could get a group discount if we book in the hostel or the hotel Just so we have an awareness of numbers we don't want this to fall through do we And Westie, don't worry we all love pampering! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and don't worry me and my bf will be doing the tourist thing as well I would prefer that during the day Nephy I'll drag you around with me if that is okay with you?
Menorain Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 (edited) A year is an awful long time away, huh? Hmm. Oh! And I'd prefer to stay in a hostel. I'm a student and don't want to run out of money to buy luxuries like food etc. Edited July 29, 2010 by Menorain
Johnathan Colourfield Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Hmmm I wouldn't be able to make this year cuz its quite short notice I'd love to do it next year and we could easily change the dates or something to be earlier in the year or something like that Oh the joys of an overbearing mother -.- Hostel for me They are actually quite good places
AnytaSunday Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Is this open to anyone? Or is this for long time members only? I think it sounds like fun, but I wouldn't wanna crash.
Westie Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Anyta - of course you're welcome. We don't stand on ceremony !! Join the fun as soon as you can - no need to wait until you are "established" as a member! With regards to a year being too far away - I think it was put well in advance to give other European members a chance for flights and such. We have members from France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal - and if course the Czech Republic That said, I am very amenable to a uk members meet beforehand if we were to arrang coffee in Manchester, lunch in Cardiff, dinner in Liverpool etc - it would be a good ice breaker before the main event next august

Menorain Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Yeah, I have to book flights from Ireland to England all the time and they cost an arm and a leg (as that is now the currency over here) if you don't book in advance. Still, August is over a year away... I'm not sure that you can even books flights that early haha The only time that is tricky for me is late May and early June. I got exams around that time, guys. I gots to learn stuff for teh exams or else I'll never be able to buy myself lots of crap that I don't actually need. Also, a casual meet before the MAIN EVENT sounds pretty cool to me. I'm not the type that needs an icebreaker, but I suppose it's a different situation when you've met the folks online. I hope none of you are rapists or have ear hair. Like, I'm open minded, but that'd put me off a bit. O.o Also, Anyta, you best get your ass there. I'm hardly an ancient member myself.
meowsan Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 no rapist? darn it.. i've already had that in my resume ne ways me will be in london for a few days in 27 to 29 september. if u guys wanna meet up i'm game, i also gonna get that network railcard for cheaper train fares. that enables me to bring 3 to 4 pple with me n they also get the benefits of the cheaper price too if we're too. unfortunately the network card only for london and south eastern part,, i'm can't get the age 16- 25 rail card which enables u to travel all over brit with the same benefits as the network card. double sad. i might meet up with Agaith though in Nottingham on the 28th perhaps..
GuiltyPleasures Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I'd love to go to England once, so I'd be happy to be there at any time.
meowsan Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I'd love to go to England once, so I'd be happy to be there at any time. eat boiled cabbages and potatoes and be all merry flight to london from AMS by klm is now 169 euro woah! afew months ago it was only 89 euro!!! it's euro 160 is u go through expedia =_= hmmm take a boat and sail across them sea it's alot cheaper. and if you row over on a small boat u'll even get to be on the newspaper the dutch that row his boat to UK
GuiltyPleasures Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 You know that boats are hardly cheaper than flying... Especially if you have to travel from some place (by public transport) to London. Besides, who the flies with KLM these days anyways? I'd go for some cheap-ass company like Ryanair.
Guest JamieScot Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Emulated, I have read through all this stuff and I am sure that this is a great idea. BUT 1. Have you succeeded in setting it up for 2010 (If so I will try and be there) 2. If not then aim for 2011 3. Arrange for particular Forums (should that be Fora?) to deal with all the aspects of "Gay" writing - For I am sure I am not alone in experimenting with trying to raise the quality of gay porn. without in any way diminishing the value of both romantic and realist gay writing. GA has a range of writers who are publishing on site material that could move into the mainstream - an aspect of GA which would benefit the site and the writers. Just a thought. Jamie
Guest Wyndham Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Meeting up is an excellent idea, and I have to agree with Jamie that we could probably also do something in 2010. Perhaps we should have a poll to decide if we have to have a big event with workshops, etc., or if we just want to meet for a day of getting to know each other. The difference in the organization required could be quite significant. I live in London so that would be my preferred choice of venue. I can offer a sofa bed if anyone needs accomodation. Alternatively, we could all travel to Wales and stay with Nephy . A good idea Emulated, thank you. For one thing, I am so looking forward to putting faces to the names I have started to get to know. Wyndham
