This is a fascinating and emotionally touching tale, very well written and with beautiful images. The story drew me in quickly. I relate to Taral and I'm curious to read more. A very good beginning.

Fantastic chapter, you're certainly getting a hold of this writing business!! Kidding. In all honesty that was inspired, truly beautiful description when he's using magic and little hints here and there to keep us guessing. Can't wait for chapter 2 now.

The world DragonFire has created is consistent, and that's absolutely essential to this story. The story is following a clear and fascinating arc. Taral is a solid character...who shows a remarkable burst of maturity in this chapter. The description of his magical search of his surroundings was lyric. His enemies' motivation, the intrigue, his anger...all contribute to the realism. A wonderful story!

Thanks David for the review. A great compliment indeed. Consistency and descriptive passages I feel are essential to this story. I want the reader to visualise a world they are not familiar with so they can better understand the story, so expect more of the same in forthcoming chapters.

Excellent. This chapter certainly lays the groundwork for what I imagine is going to be explosive second chapter. I would never have guessed that a Makriam mage would have been his ally and a cute one no less. Is this the start of something more I wonder?

 

There is some wonderful imagery here, in the style we have so become used to from you. Very well done indeed.

I find it hard to believe you've never written anything before your submissions on here, because you have talent man.

Some interesting twists make this seemingly familiar story not so familiar, after all. Some wonderful imagery captures the imagination. The first person POV--not to mention the first few sentences--draws the reader in.

Thanks David for your kind review! I'm of the opinion that in a story like this, the imagery and description are vital. I just want the readers to get a better idea/feel of the world and characters I've created. I can only hope that I continue to paint that canvass with more colours and detail as the story unfolds.
