Rabble_Rouser Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 (edited) I actually think that Rory will end up choosing to stay with Eddie before the end of the story (not too soon please Dom!). I think it would be better for Rory because he has a wealth of good gay role models in Jase, Eddie & Luke and friends (at least possible friends) that would embrace him without any issues about his sexuality. Besides that would get him away from crazy Alice. Even Rory admits early on in the story that he doesn't have any real close friends back home and that he didn't even spend much time with them during his mother's terminal stage (completely understandable) and after she passed. I think Eddie is handling it right in that he seems to be trying to get Rory to WANT to stay in Arizona which would remove a whole boatload of issues rather than forcing Rory to stay. I think that if Rory does go home, he'll quickly realize that he's giving up alot just because he was being stubborn. I really hope that if he HAS to pick up one trait from Alice, it's a bit of a stubborn streak (we've already seen evidence of this) and tells Aaron where to go and how to get there! He has been deliberately blind in looking at his developing relationship with Aaron... we've already seen Aaron's interludes with Rory as not much more that a quick chance for him to dump a load down Rory's throat and then hit the highway as quickly as he can (yeah, I know kind of crude but that what it looks like to me). Most people are much more truthful when they are drunk and hopefully Aaron's comments once he had Rory trapped in the bedroom are the cuff up the back of the head that Rory apprently needs. I forget who said it in an earlier thread, but someone mentioned that they thought the pool party for Rick would be the catalyst for major changes in the relationship between Rory and Luke... having alcohol and no Aaron could be just what Rory needs to see that his feelings towards Luke are reciprocated - why am I saying this? Rory has mentioned a couple of times how much he likes Luke as a person (a good starting point for a relationship... opposed to his being pissed off at Aaron 95% of the time) but he also says that he doesn't feel there could be any chance that Luke would be interested in him (an isolated gay teenager with self-esteem issues... there's something new!). whoever came up with this bright thought is probably right IMO. Luke and/or Rory will get toasted at the party and the cards will finally be laid on the table. I don't think that Aaron was drunk is really the issue (and it's not like it's the first time... he was drinking at the park with his loser buddies when Rory stumbled upon them the time Luke saw them kissing) but the fact he showed up to a date he demanded already bombed and the way he treated Rory at the party is. Being dragged around the party while still being completely ignored until Aaron decided it was time for him to get a little "satisfaction" (not to mention what he said) is the inexcusible part. carmichael Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 Yep, whether or not he should, Eddie has so far refused to take on the role of father. He won't impose that on Rory; he is waiting for Rory to choose it, even though that allows the possibility that Rory may not. And, despite all evidence to the contrary, Eddie still believes that Rory had a life in his old hometown and thus has something worthwhile to which to return. He respects the fact that Alice has been there for Rory all his life, while he hasn't. Eddie's inexperienced fumbling is painful to watch. He really does need to step up to the plate. So what if Rory rebels at first when told it's best for him to stay in AZ? He's a minor. What's he going to do? Where's he going to go? How long can Rory resent Eddie for acting in his best interest and being what he is: Rory's father, with all the responsibilities that that implies. Thanks for saving me looking up chapter 6, Alan. I was sure Aaron had been in court. I completely agree, 100%. Eddie needs to start to eliminate any fear in Rory's mind as to where he's going to stay at the end of the summer. It's one thing to tell the kid that he can stay with you, but you have to make him feel like he's really got a place -- not just in your home, but in your life.
Guest Cody Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 Hey everyone! I'm new here. I have been reading Desert Dropping and it is awesome. I liked Aaron but then in this chapter I seen what he was all about. I think Rory and Seth need to hook up. That would be totally hot.
NaperVic Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 (edited) Hey everyone! I'm new here. I have been reading Desert Dropping and it is awesome. Glad to see that you have found the light as it relates to Aaron(tls). I'm assuming you've also ready The Lo(n)g Way and The Ordinary Us. If you haven't already done so, those are the tit(t)les of Dom's other series and you are in for a treat if you read them. For those of us who have read everything by Domluka, we wait patiently for Dom to give us our next fix. Let me also say you ALMOST won a prize. You were close, but *sigh* you were a bit premature. Take Care, Vic the Domaholic Edited December 15, 2005 by naper_vic
Andronicus Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 (edited) Cody, also check out Dom's short story: http://domluka.gayauthors.org/short/spirit-of-james.php You'll have to read the older topics on this forum to completely make sense of some of the posts here. For now, Aaron was long ago dubbed TLS (by Vic?) and it has stuck. It can stand for "the little slut" or "the little sh*t" - take your pick. There has been quite a debate here, as the story has developed, as to whether Aaron is a good guy or a bad guy. Vic decided on the latter pretty early on (me too), and as Aaron's behaviour has worsened some of the other readers have "seen the light," especially since the last chapter. However, character surprises, or surprising character growth, are a feature of Dom's writing, so be prepared for anything. We don't know all about Aaron yet. Confirmed Domaholics sometimes refer in their posts to characters in Dom's other stories. So maybe read the other stories before back-reading the forum. Besides, it's more interesting to read Dom's stories than to read what we think about them! Caution: If becoming a full-fledged Domaholic doesn't appeal to you, then read the other stories at your own risk .... Vic: There's a prize??? Edited December 15, 2005 by Andronicus
Alan Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 Vic: There's a prize??? Yeah, I won an exciting weekend with Alice the Inomprehensible once.
