  1. Your friend in the DA's office and the private attorney can disagree all they want, but they are wrong. Emancipation does not exist in CA for kids who think they have rotten parents. Emancipation To quote from the above from the CA courts. Your friends can also look at the Legal Services for Children of San Francisco guide on Emancipation. Emancipation is not the tool that is used to get minors away from abusive parents. And in no way, shape or form does anything that Brad has done rise to the level where a court would consider termination of parental rights. Not even Jeannie is close. For a court to terminate Jeannie's parental rights there would have to be a persistent pattern of abusive behavior and that just doesn't exist. If I remember correctly your DA friend is the one who also said that when Lark jacked off in front of Will, knowing Will was watching, that that would not rise to the level of a charge or Child Endangerment. It makes me wonder what your friend in the DA's office does for them since he does not seem up on the state of the law in CA, especially as it applies to minors. Mark can use poetic license, it is a fiction story, but emancipation would only come for a 14 year old in CA after an extended period of separation from their parents and many other remedies had been tried and the parents still have to agree unless their parental rights had been terminated and then the court appointed guardian would have to agree to the emancipation. Emancipation is only a tool to enable a minor to sign contracts for things like employment, housing, vehicles and the like.
  2. Here are my thoughts so far from my review. Okay, so a couple of points. One, I don't get why Sean would need to tell Wade anything. In fact Sean would be bound by the canons of ethics to not disclose to anyone what he and Will talk about. Sean doesn't even have an obligation to tell Wade Will is a client unless and until there is a conflict of interest between representing both people and then he would have to withdraw as the counsel of one of them. Two, emancipation of a 14 year is nigh on impossible in CA if the parents object to the minor living apart from them. If there was a need to terminate parental rights the courts would appoint a guardian, if a person were willing. But a judge would laugh Will out of the court with his gripes against Brad and Robbie. In the bad parent sweepstakes they are not in the top 95%. No judge would terminate Brad's parental rights and not even Jeannie's. The "abuse" by Jeannie is so minor in the scheme of what judges see everyday, they would order counseling and mediation long, long before they would terminate her rights. Lastly, I think Will is back to being out of control and in the wrong. He is 14, he does not get a say in how his life is run, that is the reality of being 14 and a 9th grader. While Brad may not be handling the situation perfectly he still has no obligation to run all his parental decisions past someone not mature enough to make decisions on his own.

  4. Oh please...... USC has 39 athletes (and 46 when you include coaches) at the games and Cal has 38 plus 7 coaches. From 1904 to 2010, there have been 396 athletes who attended USC before, during or after their Olympic appearance. They have collected 262 medals (123 gold, 78 silver and 61 bronze), including at least one gold medal in every summer Olympics from 1912. If USC competed as a country, its 262 medals would rank 17th most in the world, while its 123 gold medals would be 12th most. Cal athletes have captured 159 total medals, 91 gold, 40 silver and 28 bronze, including a school-record 17 medals at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. A total of 46 Bears were at the Games in China, and the 2012 number is second only to USC's 46 among schools nationwide.

  6. Really? So you think Canada would have scored two more goals down one person? I know you are from Wales, but surely you must understand something about football.
  7. Okay, follow me here.... Sam Mikulak is my cousin's doctor's son. It hurt right here doc.
  8. The officiating was atrocious and Canada got the best of it. With the score 1-1 with 56 minutes gone, Canadian player Melissa Tancredi deliberately stomped on the head of Carli Lloyd as she lay on the turf. That is an automatic Red Card and Canada should have played a man down for about 34 minutes. Tancredi also would not be playing today. FIFA should also still sanction her. To NotNoNever, FIFA has everything to do with the tournament. The "Olympics" don't stage any contests, the world sports organizations do, FIFA runs soccer, FINA runs water polo, swimming, diving etc, FILA runs wrestling, FIVB runs volleyball and so on.
  9. Congrats to bronze medalist Max Whitlock. And gold medalist Zou Kai.
  10. So Cal and Nor Cal are just different. I've lived in both and flourished in each, but if you are a hard core beach person, Palo Alto is a bad trade off for Malibu, even if you have a Santa Cruz beach house. H-W isn't that different from Menlo, but I see Will's future in So Cal and H-W is a better fit for that. Will also has good friends like Ryan that I would hate to see him lose. I was kind of there with you until the last sentence (quoted). He was NOT a bad son, he was a typical kid. You can't blame him for the adults letting him play them. They ARE the adults. That is Brad and Jeannie's fault.

    Chapter 55

Love it. Fun chapter. I hope Jeannie going back to the nut house.... errr, controlled living situation, keeps Will in LA and at H-W. Nice that JJ got his groove on a little. Not sure if that means he is gay or exploring his options, but it was nice. Loved the scene with Shane.... hope he "pops up" later in the series
  12. I didn't say Brad was out of character, he is very much in character. What I said was in so many words was it was odd he hadn't learned from the experience. He is still trying to be JP, the Controller, but he hasn't figured out how to control from behind yet. You control by co-opting others positions. You lay out the scenario for people and direct them to the outcome you want. When they stray off the path you want them on you guide them back by asking questions, not by pulling them back on path. I still Will is a bit out of control, he doesn't see the big picture. He wants to be Will, the 14 year old going on 22, he has to show maturity not petulance and that he gets the big picture.

    Chapter 54

"Shee-it, ya call that drama?" he drawled, "T'ain't no one dies or any of them aero-planes crashes..... " This is minor drama in the annals of the CAP Clan. The only issue I have is that I think Brad would have been more supportive of Will and talked to Will about all that was going on. I think he learned that lesson when Will ran away. If Michael took the pictures and Jeanine encouraged him to send them, that is pretty much trafficking in child pornography, something the US takes pretty seriously. Surely Brad knows that and would use that as leverage to dump Michael and silence him and the same for Jeanine.
  14. The numbers are completely meaningless to being with. So what if you are 86% certain that you are 74% gay, you would then be 63.64% gay. So what does being 63.64% gay mean? What is 100% gay? Is it just about who you sleep with and lust after? If you are 1% straight or even 36.36% straight, does your mother think therefore you are going to marry a girl and live a straight life? Let mom know we are in modern times now. She can still have oodles of grandkids from you. Let her know you will lead a perfectly normal life and she can still cry at your wedding one day.
  15. US women got behind France 2-0 in their opening round soccer game, but reeled off 4 straight goals to crush the frogs 4-2.
  16. The punishment is outrageous. I am not a Penn State fan, the furthest thing from it, but this seems like political correctness run amuck. Yes we are all against child molestations and the covering up of them, but those are criminal and civil matters, they are not under the purview of the NCAA. The Penn State football program didn't violate any NCAA regulations as to recruiting or player or coach conduct. To remove wins from players who never knew a thing about what was happening is absurd. And it isn't just the football program that suffers now, I am sure at PSU that football paid for all the other programs too so now all the women's sports and all the men's minor sports will suffer and some may be dropped because they can not afford them any more. I've never liked the NCAA, I think......, no I KNOW, they are completely clueless about collegiate athletics and this just further proves the point. I hope an PSU alum group or the Paterno family sues the NCAA.

I am pulling for Thorbjørn Olesen.
  18. I hope Jeannie and JJ drive off a cliff in Malibu..... both are just annoying.... I think we shift back to Wade now for a couple of chapters...... one has to wonder what has happened to the seed that Wade planted with his sister.

    Chapter 52

Dude, what happened to your staff and editors, "“Do you?” I she asked." Fire them all!! Cool chapter. Unbelievable how stupid Michael is. Lost an easy, well paying gig being petulant. I am sure he signed a confidentially agreement as most household staff have to in a family like the Schluters and I am sure that Brad will remind him that there could be really serious consequences for violating that.
  20. I hope its that little hussy Kirsten!
  21. Help my memory here. Isn't Will Jeannie's natural child and JJ the adopted son of Bitty's? I mean I get that JJ is the only person who actually needs Jeannie, but I'd think there is more maternal instinct there than we have seen so far. I get Brad's mother's antipathy towards him since he was a reminder to her of the fling/affair she had with his father and she transferred her feeling for the father to Brad, but Jeannie is different. Of course JJ has a relationship with Robbie and Brad,as much or more than most 14 year old kids of two high powered working parents. Just because it hasn't been a big topic doesn't mean it doesn't exist. We haven't seen a lot about the academic side of Brad and Robbie since graduating college, but both went to very high powered institutions with very strong alumni groups, especially Princeton with its eating halls, and to me it is inconceivable that both haven't maintained relations with the universities and fellow alums, but there just isn't space in the stories to show every aspect of their daily lives and interactions. We just have time and space to see slivers. I do think that two Ivy League fathers (with a grandfather who is a department chair and the second most prestigious university in the Bay Area) would be on their kids like white on rice about academics and their futures. There have been comments in the past about Darius not being a scholar, but that can't be true. He got into a service academy that has very high standards and then he went to Santa Clara that while it isn't Yale, Princeton or Cal, is a hard school to get into with a good academic reputation and his decision wasn't based on being turned down by Cal or UCLA, but rather than on being close to his girlfriend. Have Brad and Robbie been all over JJ's skating? No, but it has just gotten serious lately in the last year to eighteen months and there has been a lot going on. I do think JJ will come to regret driving a wedge between Will and himself, particularly if Jeannie goes away again and now Will, his best backer besides her, is estranged from him. I don't find Stef's attitude unusual. I think he is a bit frustrated with his 14 year old grandson who thinks he is 24, but refuses to grow, mature and think before he goes off the deep end. I think Will needs to realize how much he needs his family and he can't keep doing things to push them away. I hope Jeff reveals more to Will about what it is REALLY like to have "no parents" or family that give a shit about you and how he came to live in a youth shelter. We have seen flashes of Will recognizing this, but not the full slap in the face reality of Jeff's life or the other kids in Father Tim's care.

    Chapter 51

Cool chapter, I do think Will needs to do some more growing up. He IS still 14 years old, I can't imagine a hotel actually checking in a 14 year old, even in Europe. I get Stef, he is a little impatient with Will because Will is refusing to see the big picture in decisions he makes, he is still making them impulsively and immaturely. I think that is part of what Claire was saying to him.
  23. Well forgive me for being a cynic, but did Mr. Freeh speak with Mr. Paterno before he passed away? It seems to me it would be rather easy to blame the dead guy who can't explain what here did and did not do.
  24. Oh gawd, do you enjoy watching water freeze too?
