  1. Interesting chapter and it makes me wonder what the future implications are of Wade locking horns with his mother once again. On the priest/minister thing....we need to get Arbour settled on what you call clerics in various denominations Catholic and Anglican (Episcopalian) churches have priests and aren't very often referred to as "ministers", minister is more of a main stream Protestant term. Episcopalians can get laid, Catholics can not (in theory). The Danfields, and whatever Elizabeth was before she was a Danfield, are most likely Anglicans since that is what East Coast blue bloods are.

  4. Dude.... you are waaaaaaaaaaaay too into Facts of Life
  5. More out of character (but I understand you need protagonists to move the story) is the fact that Carter is a water polo player and the captain. Water polo isn't like football, the athletes are more chill, don't take themselves too seriously and the captain especially is that guy that gets along with everyone. I am not saying there are no asses in WP but they are the exception not the rule and I've seen far more football players behaving like Carter than water polo players. Jack Bowen at Menlo really wouldn't put up Carter's behavior. It is antithetical to his philosophy and the way he runs his program.
  6. Changing diapers is like flying commerical..... once you've been there (someone else changing diapers and flying private) you can never go back.....
  7. I disagree with the announcers. It looked like Roeth was trying to hang on to the ball or pull it back, it didn't look like a normal follow through. See his off hand reach for the ball and his throwing hand clinch into a fist? He was trying to grab it back, not send it forward.
  8. Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate the extent that Mark goes to for accuracy in his stories. Here are videos from three elite, prep boarding schools in CA. The first one might be the best in explaining why CA prep schools are different. In many cases, maybe all, these school were products of people from east coast schools who wanted to do something a bit different in CA.
  9. The SEC is the biggest bunch of pretenders ever. Once again their top teams play easy non-conference games and all at home. Non-conference opponents for South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and LSU: Buffalo, Florida Atlantic (2 teams), East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, UAB, North Texas, Idaho, Washington, Towson, Michigan, Western Kentucky, Western Carolina, Wofford, Bowling Green, Louisiana Lafayette and Jacksonville State. Only 3 teams are from BCS conferences and 4 are from Div IAA and as I said EVERY game is at home, no road games at all. Non-conference opponents for USC, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State and Arizona: Oklahoma St, South Carolina St, Toledo, Notre Dame (2 teams), Duke, San Jose State, Wisconsin, BYU, Nicholls, Arkansas State, Fresno State, Tennessee Tech, Hawaii and Syracuse. 6 BCS conference opponents, 2 of those games on the road, and only 2 from Div IAA.
  10. I don't think it is elder abuse in the neglect/abuse area, she just keeps the old dear medicated up so she can use the family fortune as she sees fit. It will be interesting if any of the characters from this chapter, Travis, Trevor or Beau have significance in future books.

    Chapter 68

Oh damn I could hear the dun dun dun at the end of that chapter. We know why Nana needs help, mommie dearest keeps her medicated up so she can handle the family money. Fun chapter.
  12. School uniforms at private schools, at least in California, seem to be the province of parochial schools.
  13. No one cares about baseball in the middle of college football. I'd be more focused on Mizzou and Bama.

  16. Kid couldn't sing at all. He was completely flat, no tonal qualities. He looked like he was in a jr high talent show and not winning. There are so many other people with so much talent it is ridiculous.
  17. Isn't Jeanine his nanny? I mean, yeah she raised him, but wasn't his mother was the crazy Shulter/Crampton lady who was doing a Persian guy? You really do not understand the water polo world especially the elite level and you really don't understand the world of elite prep schools or the Menlo School wp coach specifically. Water polo isn't like football, baseball, hockey, etc. The athletes are very different, the coaches are very different and the environment is very different. Given Will's size and athletic ability he would be an instant star in the sport, especially at the age group level. He would dominate his fellow 14 year olds. Beyond the differences of water polo to other sports, a lot of water polo is about the comraderie of the sport because of the amount of time you spend with each other (11 months of the year essentially). Will, looking for friends to replace Ryan and maybe John will like his team mates and want to please them and fit in.
  18. Sorry to be a cynic, but I think Ella had more to do with his decision than altruism.
  19. Cool chapter... can't wait for the sabbatical to end.
  20. Seriously? If they banned every NBA player who used racial epithets during a game they'd have to cancel the season.
  21. Yeah the game was horribly officiated and it is too bad the last horrible call cost the Packers the game, but there was a horrible pass interference call that sustained a drive that gave the Pack the go ahead touchdown. I am not sure the issues surrounding the refs lockout, but whatever it is, the cost to give the regular refs what they want can not possibly be worth more than the damage they are doing to their brand and the playoffs.
  22. Patience? I've been waiting patiently for over two years to find out what happens when Nelson meets a young painter!
  23. Tiffany, Britinany, Faith, etc is sociology, hot history. When a Tiffany, Britinany or Faith does something notable, then it besomes history.
