LOL Would he like cheese with that broccoli?

As a non-christian American, I don't understand it either, but as often as they repeat the prediction I am sure we will figure it out eventually. Oh yeah. Very disturbing! I hope you didn't just happen to have them at the front of your mind.

I just completed your story. You have nothing to worry about. Keep up the good work as I am looking forward to reading more.

For Allegheny County read Pittsburgh. Apparently, in PA point of sale is where the store is located. If I buy online, by phone or mail from a Pittsburgh or Philadelphia store, I pay the sales tax for Pittsburgh (7%) or Philadelphia (8%) even though I live in the 6% part of the state. The result is that I no longer buy from online sources located in either city. I used to be able to drop over the state line into Maryland and pay their 5% sales tax but they have raised it to 6% so I no longer make the drive. And thank you amazon.com. No sales tax. No shipping or handling over $25. 4 for 3 deals. A larger selection than Barns & Nobel or Borders. And all from the comfort of my PC!

I hope so. I just netflixed it. Funny how that happens isn't it?

The more I get into this topic the more it seems that the problem is with our illustrious Hosted Authors. They all have links to their own web pages which I assume (I know, I know) they are responsible for maintaining. The thing is, most of their sites do not tell you whether a story is in progress, finished or ka-put. The e-fiction page is much better since the stories listed under an author give a synopsis, length, status, etc. Why can't the Hosted Authors get on board and accommodate their readers wishes and let us know their stories status?

Speak of the Devil! I just read Dom Luka's With Trust only to get to chapter 21 and find that it is not finished. I'm not finding anything anywhere that lets you know ahead of time that the story is "in progress". Of course, since there are no time signatures on the chapters, I have no way of knowing if the story has been "abandoned". This sort of thing just pisses me off.

Oh yeah, the Midsumer Murders are the greatest. I have been following them as they hit DVD since the beginning. They have replaced my BBC Agatha Christie addiction. I can't get enough of the village scenes and the interior shots. Not bad mysteries either - the clues are all there - you just have to see them.

Aaauuggh! The Night Of The Living Dead, my worst movie experience, is now a TV sit-drama. Thanks be that I pulled the plug on TV years ago.

Born Around 1963? You May Remember These TV Shows
jon-jon replied to methodwriter85's topic in The Lounge
Born in 1963? I graduated HS in 1963! You are sooooo young! But I do remember all those shows plus I Love Lucy, George & Gracy, The Jackie Gleason Show, . . . -
Too cool. I never knew I could do that. Thanks.

Ditto on both counts.

Ah! My pet peeve. When I first discovered Nifty, I naively started stories with 20-30 chapters posted only to find that the last one posted wasn't the end and the story had never been finished. That's a lot of time and reading to put in only to end up with an unfinished story. And of course Nifty does not identify whether a story has been completed. Nor does Dabeagle's Library. GA at least shows a status. My solution is to go to the last chapter of the story and check the end paragraph for a conclusion or for "The End". Of course you risk spoiling any surprise ending that way, but hey, sometimes you just have to take a chance.

The law, because we have an innate nature to correct wrongs especially those done to us. Medicine, because we care especially for those like us who have been hurt. But I have read stories where the main character was an architect, a computer whiz, a time traveler, a satyr, a musician. You just have to keep reading!

A little confused in politics is this article helping gay people?
jon-jon replied to zland666's topic in The Lounge
I'm sorry, I tried, but I just phased out after the fifth or sixth paragraph. I don't know why we bother. They say the same old doggerel over and over, yadda, yadda, yadda. The question we should ask ourselves is: Do we really care what they say? Should we? We know it is all BS so why is what they say so important to us? Why do we let it affect us? They have their agenda and we don't have ours (contrary to what they say). Why try to figure out what he means when it is all BS. What is the meaning of BS? -
And although I preceded you in 1945, my list would be the same. Wait, wait. Franklin D. Roosevelt died Aril 12, 1945, so he would be first on the list for some 27 days.

Harry Potter. Hands down. I've read the books, seen the movies. In fact, I re-read all the previous books before reading the newest and re-viewed all the previous movies before seeing the newest. I just finished watching all the movies again in anticipation of Deathly Hollows coming in November. They held up very well. Just as exciting the second or third time around as the first time. I haven't read the twilight books but have seen the movies. There just isn't as much "there" there. It's the difference between the two is like 2D and 3D.

Whoooa! 7 negs (so far). I must have touched a veeerrrry sensitive nerve. I am fully aware that some authors are better than others as are some editors better than others and when I read a story and find the errors are getting in the way of the story, I drop it. But I was (I thought clearly) not referring to the stories (that's a whole 'nother ball game) but to the off the cuff thread replies. I also am fully aware that for many of our members, English is not their first language and I check the writers location when I read the posts. Actually, our non-English-first members generally express themselves much more coherently than many of our native speakers. And, I was not referring to typos and misspellings. I was, I thought, limiting my protest to coherency; the ability to say in an understandable way what it is you are thinking. Typos and misspellings are irritating, but they don't usually interfere with coherence. I just thought, as "authors", that ability to express yourself should be reflected in your posts. Maybe I should have started the thread with the question "What constitutes a qualified GA Author?" Or maybe, I'm just expecting too much. HaHa. You got me. Spelling was never my strong suite but I try; and the dictionary is right in front of me.

As I read the posts in various forums, I have noticed that several posters have the title"GA Author" under their avatar. I have observed that many of these posts are incoherent. They are lacking in complete thoughts, fail to use complete sentences and often use a grammatical structure that can only be described as out of this world. Is it asking to much for those with the talent to be labeled "GA Author" to use that talent in their posts? Or am I the only one that identifies with this pet peeve? NOTE: The topic is understanding, articulation, coherence; NOT punctuation, spelling, grammar, typos. You can use poor punctuation, misspell, use incorrect grammar and make typos and still be understood.

One body pillow, three rather flat feather pillows and one foam/feather combo, also rather flat: 5. I think I need new pillows.

This is an odyssey in the making. You guys should start a blog and document your travels through the mid-atlantic states in your search for a new home. Sort of a mid-atlantic travel guide for gays. But you are right, you did ask for the merits of small town vs. big city. So, in as much as your kid is going to be the most important thing here (as parents your stuff automaticly goes to the end of the line), I guess you should think like a kid and try to imagine what they would want. So, young kid = stuffed animals, playgrounds, other kids, school, solid home life, good parents, safety, healthy invironment, back yard swings, low stress levels, etc. Looks like small town/suburbs/track developement/rural would win out over city. Remember, if you stay within the mid-atlantic area, you won't be far from a city - few hours drive at most. So you can probably get the best of both worlds. My family originated on the eastern shore of MD, and I have to admit it is pretty country. Unforntunately, I can't speak for the attitudes of the folks. The shore tends to vote conservative. Maybe you should check out Chestertown, MD. It's a college town which is always a good thing. But there I go again with recommendations over merits . . . !

After parsing your statement, I have to point out that the article to which you refer is one addressing adults trying to maintain or separate from a relationship with their abusive parents. Yes, our society fails to provide safeguards for minors in need of respite from abusive parents, but that isn't the point here. The point here, and I agree, is that adults trying to deal with their abusive parents should not avoid a solution. Talking to friends or professionals, seeking help with the problem is the preferred solution. To imply that all therapists are 'in it only for the money' is an unfair generalization. Just as it is unfair to imply that all medical services are 'out to milk the sick of all they have'. There are both good and bad therapists and medical services out there. One just has to find the one that is right for you. As for the effects of harmful parents on the brain, the article does go on to say that much of the damage can be undone and recommends seeking help.
