Good to see that the King and the Duke of Clarence are on George's side. If I were the Wilcox family, you'd think they'd steer clear of George. It's not like he is chasing after them to make their lives miserable. In this I fear you might be over playing your hand if you get my meaning. At some point their single minded devotion to being stupid where George is concerned is a bit of too cartoonish. Certainly they are not smart men, but they can't all be that stupid and still be Admirals. Just a thought. Perhaps they might be a bit more devious and a bit less obvious.

Well that worked out just swell for George. Even if the Admiral is to be believed, George is going to be quite well heeled either way. One would hope that Captain Flagg will be able to sense the way the winds doth blow and not support the Admiral. Howard is something of the hero of the day - and despite his defying orders, Wilcox is in a bad way - if he says Howard defied his orders, he validates the accusations of cowardice. If he supports Howard, then Howard is believable and his charges against Wilcox are even more credible. Either way the Admiral is screwed. WOO HOO another Wilcox drawn and quartered LOL

Travers out, Cavendish in - and where does that leave poor Mr. Calvert? Incredible how easily George can shift his affections when the object of his desire is gone. And now he is playing roulette. There had better be a huge pot of gold at the end of this rainbow or George is in deep doggie do do. Fortunately he has more than enough money and position that even if he is cashiered out of the navy, he can still live a rather good life. Makes it a tad easier to play with fire I suppose.
-
New ship new lover??? Gracious mother Mary me - if they keep transferring Granger he's gonna bed half the Royal navy Of all his love interests, Cavendish is the most acceptable though he is a tad young. Then again Granger isn't 20 yet so they are both teenagers. Hard to think of George as just a teenage but there it is. At least Cavendish's other leg wasn't damaged
-
Wow, how the hell can Wilcox survive this? He is either the stupidest man in the entire Royal navy or the world worst gambler. Maybe he hoped Granger would die and be unable to get his family to cashier the stupidest Admiral in the fleet. Now he should have the help of the Duke of Portland for the injury done to his son. Love the naval engagement, felt so real. I could see Illustrious swoop past Belvidera charging into action, gun out ready to slug it out with Floreal. Very cool!

Okay, I've have almost nothing negative to say about the entire series but really? A three way as punishment?? That was just plain silly. You totally just wanted to write about that and fabricated a ridiculous 'plot' to achieve it. Sorry but Siskel and Ebert give it two . Fortunately I love the series and will not hold it against you
-
Well placed engagement, they really gave it to Floreal but you are cruel to take away another randy Lt from Granger. My god how you torture him And Winkler?!?! Who knew - besides Jeffers cheekly little bastard knew Jeffers like to bugger from seeing all the time he and Granger got it on and seduced to old boy. God, that is some cadre of sailors. What a dream come true And then, to further add to the torture, you drop Admiral dipshit err Wilcox back into the picture. You're cruel - remind me to only kiss your ass and never get on your bad side
-
Guess this is where we see just how good Belvidera is as a fighting ship. Sure she can sail but now. Nice to see George hasn't lost his 'touch' first Lennox, then Grafton - my my my who'd thunk Mr. Grafton would be a sodomite. It's so unlike you to write about such characters Mark.
-
Wow Preston is something of a prick, apology or not. Sure he's jealous and what not but still. I somehow feel that even though the pair - John and George have kissed and made up, this has tarnished their relationship beyond repair. George is intensely loyal and he gave everything to Travers. For him to do this - no matter the reason has to hurt on a level he won't admit easily. Oh well, Travers has Robey still
-
Well so goes the 'first in my heart' status of John Travers. After that, Francis is now front and center. Back to - it's going to be a long voyage for sure.
-
Well so much for this being a voyage devoid of the usual cabin fever antics George has grown accustomed to. Calvert is gone, Travers is there. Interesting how that worked. Too bad Calvert wasn't still there when Travers came aboard. THAT would have made for good theater to be sure
-
And there you go again, torturing poor Mr. Calvert and George. Nice to see they let Calvert do all the grunt work for Granger BEFORE they took him away Should be an interesting journey now - just whom will Granger bugger or be buggered by? Or will he be disciplined and discrete?
-
Okay, I really had to laugh when Calvert comes over, bargains with Caroline to sleep with her husband and to 'celebrate' George takes her upstairs to 'consummate' the deal. Too funny. So Arthur is in cahoots with Caroline to 'watch' over their shared lover. Hmm poor George. It's tough having aspirations AND being randy now isn't it. And Jardines is gone??? All the size queens, Arthur and George at the top of the list, must be devastated

New ship new adventure. Nice to see George remembered what his Grandfather told him. I have to say the Winkler Character is one of my favorites. He's so evolved from the ship's boy into probably Granger's most trusted confident - even if he is a 'servant.' Looks like this one is off to a good start

next chapter we'll learn a bit more about Will and Gar and Will/Gar. Ryan is still an enigma - [sorry to steal your word Nephy] but I promise it will be cleared up at the end. Really - I promise.

I wanted to be a baseball player - Sorry Dark, I see I'm copying you - I kept to that dream til high school - then I realized I couldn't hit a breaking ball. No one wants a good fielder that can't hit that well. My mom always wanted me to be a lawyer - so I ended up following her dream for me - I won't say I regret it, I mean I do like being a prosecutor - but I wonder what I would really do if I was not prodded constantly in that direction. Funny side story, I always thought my family wanted me to be a lawyer because I'd be the first in my family to go to law school - both sets of grandparents were off the boat from Italy - then I could represent the 'family'. One day I mentioned I wanted to be the consigliere - thinking I'd get in good with the folks - not a chance, my mom tore me a second hole telling me my grandfather worked to goddamn hard to keep my dad out of the business. Funny how I ended up on the other side eh? Or is it? Hmmmm

Guess I'm a tad late to the party but it's still your birthday here so what they hey. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEX!!! Here's hoping it was fun!

Mark, you said this was your favorite so far, did you mean of the first three or the first four? Meaning will I not like the next one as much as this one? Either way, this was really well done. Even the gratuitous sex was a bit toned down - just a bit The mix between historical data, nautical realism and character interaction was amazing for how seamless it was and for the smooth transitions. The characters felt so real that it's almost as if they were. Fox seems a bit of a character - almost like a Shakespearean character who appears one or twice to dispense some nugget of information vital to the play but is otherwise a mere tool [and fox seems a tool as well as a 'tool'.] Well Book Four doth beckon but I have a few other things to read first and to work on. Thanks for an enjoyable read. Andy

That was an interesting end - so his sodomite tendencies are well known to Caroline? I like her reaction, she knew but it wasn't until he said so for sure that she knew. Calvert better be at his most charming self if this is going to work - assuming all the looks he is getting from folks aren't a hint. Strikes me that if Sir Richard knows - and he is so far away - that Spencer knows, Jervis too. If Arthur and Caroline separated the pair for their own good - seems that Spencer would and will do the same to keep his golden boy from making headlines for anything but sensational heroics. No one needs him disgraced and hung.
-
George Washington??? You're quite the name dropper Mark. Well Captain Granger at 19 1/2 interesting - he certainly would be one for the history books were he real.
-
Cape May? New Jersey? Society Hill? Sounds like you've been to the Delaware Valley in your life time. Isaac Hull? Alexander Hamilton? Hmm this is a who's who of early American history Now if Hamilton had an attractive Nephew instead of his Niece Anna, George might have been happier sticking around me thinks.
-
So Calvert got his wish and is back on the Intrepid. One wonders what Sir John is thinking. I mean George and Calvert are both what 19? They're friends and they're peers. It would be a bit different if George was Bergland's age asking for his 1st Lt. back. At 19 you're still a kid no matter how mature or polished. On the other hand, if Caroline was pulling strings back in London and Jervis has connections, it wouldn't be a stretch for him to know what Sir Richard knows - interesting to be sure.
-
So this time he really did take an entire island by himself, though to be fair much of the credit goes to Mr. Humphreys. He is turning into quite the officer now isn't he? At least George has a good replacement for Calvert when Sir John sends him off somewhere else.
-
Funny how the admiral saw George's actions as an insult. Probably a lot to do with envy - being the commander he doesn't get the same number of opportunities to lead the away team if you will. Bout time Calvert figured out his need to placate the powerful Caroline Granger and her political machine. Now let's see if he can do it.
-
Now St George the Randy has captured not only an entire Island without firing a shot, he nailed a Dutchman by firing a shot Ah if only the world today was as liberal with it's free love as the one George lives in
