  1. Umm . . . get on GA? (or the internet in general). I tend to give in to my insomnia. If I try and sleep, I just end up annoyed. So I'll usually daydream (or nightdream-- but while still awake, lol) or get up and do something.
  2. So, I said I wasn't going to peek at any new stories right now because I have a full plate of to-dos, to-reads, and to-writes . . . but I did anyway. And then after a quick scan I saw Charlie fell in love w/ his first grade class while student teaching, just like me, and I knew I was gonna read the whole thing I'm very interested to see where you take this, and I think Charlie will be an easy character for me to empathize with. I woulda liked to understand Tina a little more, since this chapter was essentially all back story. Either that, or ease us into the history a bit more slowly, rather than laying it out there all at once. But, that's just my opinion, and might boil down to personal choice. In any case, great start and keep at it
  3. How come no one has mentioned Shelter? Especially those want-a-happy-ending people . . .

    It Was a Holy Day

Hmm I wasn't expecting that abrupt of an ending. But a well-written, engaging piece. The rest I'll put in your forum
  5. I sorta like Lugh's first suggestion above. And I also wonder why she has to list a father at all for this low income insurance. Lord knows plenty of my kids come from single parent homes, and I sorta doubt the moms always know who the father is. What a tough situation-- really sorry things aren't working out as planned I can't imagine the stress of having to deal with this all the way on the other side of the country . . . and then have the reason for that become moot. The only thing I can say is that I imagine once you have the baby in your arms, all this stress will be forgotten.

    Hmmm . . . squirm . . . we'll see
  7. LOL. Sorry, seems like some people felt a bit cheated w/ this one Well, I'd have to say it wasn't what I was expecting in an epilogue-- it actually feels more like teaser for the upcoming short story. If that was the purpose, then it has done its job I'm not actually a huge fan of far-in-the-future epilogues-- usually I like to imagine for myself what becomes of the main characters. So I'm not too upset w/ this Looking forward to your future work.
  8. I lived in Valencia, but also took a month and a half to travel to Madrid, Barcelona, Cuenca ( where my way-back ancestors are from) and all the major cities in the South.
  9. I studied abroad and lived in Spain for about 7 really incredible months. I'd go back, if the situation called for it, and I can even get special dispensation for fast citizenship
  10. Not really pop (more like latin rock), but I'd suggest Arjona for some great songs Arjona on grooveshark Edit to add: Another reason why I like Arjona-- I went to his concert in LA, where he surprised his largely Latin-American and largely Catholic audience with a new song (and video) about a young gay boy (the lyrics suggest he may be transgendered). I admire the fact that he went w/ his heart, even though he knew there was a good chance he'd alienate some of his fans. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xauaj7_ricardo-arjona-que-nadie-vea-video_music
  11. Really?? Oh wait, you're 15

    Prison Of Hope

Awesome, Frosty! I loved it! Okay, so I guessed it, BUT I grew up on Twilight Zone and am always super suspicious , plus you told me it was going to be surprising so I was trying to guess from the start, lol. That said, I adore stories w/ twists like these (used to write them when I was a kid) and I think you have a talent for them. Do keep writing!
  13. Yesssss you went w/ the happy ending. I sorta had a sneaking suspicion you would It'd be hard to disappoint all us readers, i think. Maybe in a short story, but after all the emotions we've invested into your epic story . . . lol. Well, I'm glad you went happy. Now I'm happy. Good way to go to sleep-- or lesson plan--lol. I'd say more about your wonderful story, but I think I'm starting to repeat myself in my reviews Anyways, I think you know what I think, so I'll just leave it at this:
  14. Better late than never, right? Finally catching up. Though I should be lesson planning, but that's another story. Ouch. This one hurt. I feel it's your most emotionally compelling chapter to date-- your writing is really showcased in scenes like the ones featured here. And I know I've said it before, but I'm still really impressed at the time/dedication you've put in to growing as a writer. And yes I know you'll thank Anyta (who is fantastic, i agree), but you must be a good student, at least, and us teachers like good students I see that one of your characters agrees with one my characters about something-- yeah that makes no sense, lol. Maybe it will after you've read my 15.
  15. Only after you make up your mind about what seat to take in your friend's car. That's a very important step, you know.

yeah, sorry 'bout the but thanks for commenting!
  17. I'll be lame and say good writing has to draw me into a story. You could have the most creative idea in the world, but if you write it like a dry textbook or a boring history lecture, chances are it won't capture my interest. I can push through novels like this if the story is really creative, but I'd prefer not to. The good news is that I think writers can always improve, so if someone does have that creative spark, they can work at getting their writing to present it in the best possible way.

    A Story for Mikie

I read this a long time ago, and just reread it as I've rec'ed it in The Lounge. I really enjoy compact little stories like this that manage to draw me into the emotions of the characters so quickly and leave me happily fulfilled at the end, even if I'd have liked the story to continue
  19. Got it! It's by GA's VIv https://www.gayauthors.org/story/viv/astoryformikie/1
  20. I read a rather sweet one once (a short story), but it was back in my lurking days and I can't remember the title. Maybe someone else would get it from the details-- there was a winter storm, and school let out early. The MC was deaf, and got hit w/ a snowball or something while on his way home (he got in the crosshairs of a snowball fight, I believe). He ends up going home w/ one of the guys . . . ring any bells for anyone?
  21. No they don't! Been there, and to Beverly hills . . . Yeah no, lol
  22. Hm, does my hood trump your hood? Eh, I'm too lazy to post a pic of Watts.
  23. Well! Look who's not shirking away from sex scenes anymore I think you're like me; I include them when they're part of the plot, but I don't write them in every time they're alluded to. Makes 'em more effective, imo, and this scene was certainly effective. Didn't feel like a rape to me, but it's clear Peter is not himself, and has a lot of issues to work through. Hopefully Jason will be able to help, but I think he might need to be a little more direct about it. I'm rooting for a happy ending, 'cause I'm a sap like that. But, I do solemnly swear I won't neg rep you if you break our hearts, as long as you stay true to your story
  24. Don't really think that's the Jewish attitude. A lot of jews have issues with Christmas . . . think it stems from feeling left out as a kid. I still say conversation and a willingness to compromise-- on his side as well as yours-- are key.
