  1. My brother played folk music in the 60s, and this song was released. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4NjrBcn0PA&feature=share

    Turning

Thanks a lot, Cannd. I really appreciate the feedback. You're worried and nervous? Thanks again. Your emotional investment in the characters is the best reaction I could hope for. This whole story started with the characters, and I've grown to love them, too, warts and all.

Thanks, Parker. Some folks seem to attract quality people, and that quality comes out when things get rough. If we're lucky, we recognize them in our own lives. If we're honest with ourselves, we try to be as good to them as they are to us.

    Let Me Start Over

Thanks for reading and commenting, Mark. You know how it goes when a kid suddenly starts getting attention where there has been none. There's no such thing as enough. We've got plants here we call rain lilies. They're every innocuous, with just a little foliage, until after a rain, when the blooms suddenly appear, bright and fresh. Casey's kinda like that.

    Turning

Turning James pulled up to Charles’ house and put the car in park. Jim’s car was already there, and there were lights at the side of the house. Leaving the engine running, he turned to his mom. “Mom, is it OK if I stay with Jim and Casey? I don’t think I’m going to sleep much tonight, so I’d rather help them keep an eye on things here.” “Sure. I’m going to call Carol and invite myself over to their place, so neither of us will be alone. I can bring some things over here for you on the way to
  6. Thanks for the kind words, Mark. The story would just be a mad jumble if not for KC, forcing me to simplify things. I'm very glad you're enjoying the read.

    A Better Place

Mark! Babe! We see so little of you, and it's always a pleasure. Thanks for reading and commenting. I'm glad you enjoy the story.

Motive? Seems to me the most useless question to ask is why. Believe it or not, bicycles could easily shut down the whole town. There's a huge bike rally with thousands of riders that goes through from Houston to Austin once a year/ That's why they banned bicycles downtown.

When they don't hate ya for what ya do, they hate ya for what ya are. One word for Sara - insidious.

    E.R.

E.R. Jessie told James, and he got on the phone, talking to everyone he could reach, and leaving messages for the rest. Casey had his phone turned off and Carol told James he was taking an evening run. Charles’ stock had been fed and bedded down for the night, so James, Jessie, and Mary set up a schedule for the next day to take care of them, and agreed to talk about it again the next day. Mary was going to have her dad take her to the hospital, and James and Jessie grabbed the keys and ran to

    True Colors

True Colors Sara was talking to Chris. That was unusual enough, but Chris was gathering up the gear after practice to take it back to the field house, when Sara just happened to come around. At least, that’s what she told Chris. “It’s not like that, Chris. I think he’s sweet, and funny. I really do. When he smiles, the room lights up. He’s really a nice guy. Just ask Mary. They’ve been together since school started.” Of course, when she mentioned Mary, Chris got a funny look on his face. “It’s

    Wanted

To me, the greatest thing about Jim and Carol is that they communicate. I think foster kids always have a bit of insecurity. Those who grow up in our biological families take the relationship for granted. I wouldn't say Casey lied, just put her off. And isn't that what Carol advised? Do you really see Casey blowing somebody off?

Thanks for reading, and you're right, it's Not Done Yet. Real stories never really end, though, do they? We just frame them with a beginning and end.

    Laid Bare

Laid Bare Casey was waiting by the side of the road with his hands in the pockets of his sweats, his cap low over his eyes. When he saw Jim’s car, he smiled and put out his thumb. Jim pulled up next to him and rolled down the window. Rasping breathlessly, he coughed and retched out, “Hey, little boy, you want some candy?” and did his best to leer at Casey. Casey lost it then, and started laughing so hard, he began to cough and doubled over. Jim didn’t break character, and twice, Casey looked u

    Wanted

Wanted “No, I can’t come over right now. I’ve got work to do around the house… I already explained that. You were sick with the flu… No, it was important that I go… Because the team needed me there…” Casey’s eyes were beginning to glaze over, talking with Sara over the cell. “Sara, listen, really, I’ve got to go. I’ll call you tomorrow. Bye.” Casey ended the call and dropped the phone on the bed before he dropped alongside it. He lay there quietly, staring at the ceiling. That was where Caro

Hi Lisa. This story is fiction, and any resemblance to any person or any person's initials is purely coincidental. Thanks for mentioning the discrepancies. I'll go back and look at those more closely.
