    The fair

Oh for heaven's sakes. I've written this thing four times and keep hitting something and it all goes away. Let me try this one more time! SOO we went to the fair last tuesday. It was a lot of fun, but really packed. It was hard getting through the crowd at most points but we still got to see most of what we wanted to see. I saw the prize winning pumpkins which always fascinates me. The biggest one was nearly five hundred pounds. I also got to try funnel cake. Tasted very much like a dough boy to me, except they didn't put the melted butter on top like they do the doughboys and I missed that. I did pour on the confectioners sugar and cinnamon though, and I did enjoy it. I also got a steak sandwich, french fries and 3 caramel apples to bring home. I didn't get any fried veggies, by the time we finally found a booth we get up to order and this bitchy looking lady says 'it's gonna be half an hour' well poo on her. On our way to find another one we saw the steak sandwich place and I got so full from that I didn't bother looking for another fried veggie place. We also saw some cow judging and some of those big draft horses all geared up in fancy harnesses and stuff, those are wicked pretty animals. Yesterday we went to a birthday party, one of Sam's friends kids. I got to play XBox most of the evening with a bunch of the kids so that was a lot of fun. Since we had to go to that last night, we didn't have our 'day of rest' yesterday, but we did that on Saturday cause we knew we wouldn't get one if we didn't. We watched spooky movies all day. I've been waiting all summer to break out my horror movie DVD collection this month, since it is October. But darnitt! there's so many good movies on TV we haven't watched one DVD. Maybe November will have to be horror movie DVD month! James I looked at the cat food bag and had a long talk with kitty. I don't mind that she's modeling but if she's making money she's gonna have to help with the house expenses, but she said she already spent it on cat nip, I'm putting in a call to the Betty Ford clinic and hopefully they can help her out! Seriously though that cat does look a lot like mine. Same posing position and everything! Thanks for showing it to me. For those that have no idea what I'm talking about see my blog entry 'oh me too' and scroll down through to the last comment! In writing news, I have none. I have'nt wrote a thing in weeks. Don't worry though Unbreakable Faith is all done has been for two years, so we don't have to worry about me not finishing that! I believe it's about fifteen chapters. I know it's a really hard story to read and I really appreciate all of those who are sticking with it. I'm hoping the rest of the story will make up for what you've had to put up with so far in it. I have another story about 1/4 written but haven't been back to it in a while. I'm hoping to have it done by the time Unbreakable Faith is done posting, but if I plan on that I gotta get busy on it! Well I guess that's all the news I have. I hope everyone has a great week! I'm not dreading today too bad even though it's Monday because we are having a 'pig out' day at work, where everyone brings in food and we eat, and yes Maya I LOVE food so that's enough to make me look forward to today! I'm taking baked potatoes, with a tray full of topping, like sour cream, shredded cheese, cheese whiz, scallions, butter, and broccolli. So people can load them up with whatever they want. Should be Yummy! Okay well I got sidetracked, hehe. I'm really going this time. Have a great day everyone. Vance
  5. I think the best advice I could offer is to just keep writing. I remember the first story I wrote on a computer. It was four years ago or so and I go back to it frequently and read it. It's not a story I'll ever post, in fact I call it my 'learning story' I was already writing for years before it but I never finished stories before this one. I can see from this story how much my writing improved from the beginning to end. Mind you this story is over 2,500 pages but while writing it I learned a lot. I never had any intention of sharing that story with anyone, well except for Sam. SO there was no pressure of 'is this good enough' Heck I know for sure it's not. I'm very glad I wrote that story though I learned how to develop characters, to deal with dialouge without saying 'he said, she said' after everything a person said. I learned what worked and what didn't for the most part. So I guess this is my round about way of saying, the best way to learn is to just keep doing it, the more you write the better you get. I also agree with what everyone else has said here, especially the reading. Reading a lot helps you learn different styles and maybe can give you ideas of styles to incorporate into your own writing. If you dabble around in different styles you'll find one that works best for you.
  6. hmmm so THIS is why everyone loves dkstories!! I admit up until this morning I was a DK virgin. When I decided it was time to do what so many people had been telling me to do, "read one of Dan's stories!!" Well i'm SOOOOOO glad I did, I LOVE it!! I join the addicted.
  7. Well tomorrow is the big day. Our once yearly trip to a fair. I'm very excited. I can't wait to eat some caramel apples, and some fries and some dough boys. Oh and I'm going to try some funnel cake this year. I haven't had that before, hadn't even heard of them until I started playing Roller Coaster Tycoon. Last year I saw a booth for them, but I was too busy eating cotton candy to stop and by the time I was hungry again I couldn't find the booth again! Lol, last year was funny too cause I went wanting to get fried vegetables which I'd had a restaurant here and thought were really good. So we're going through the fair and I see no 'fried veggie' booths but TONS Of 'Tempura' booths. It took most of the day for me to realize that Tempura IS fried Veggies! I looked at the schedule of events for the fair and there really isn't anything exciting for shows or anything tomorrow. There is a blueberry pie contest though, maybe if i go there and look hungry they'll let me be a judge! hehe. We have to find the winners of the 'biggest pumpkin' contest too. We never saw those last year and that's one of my favorite things to see at the fair. I'll do another blog after I actually go to the fair, I just felt like doing one this morning too. Sam bought a new car on Saturday. We went to Bangor so he could test drive some and ended up coming home with one. He really loves it. I do too, it looks sporty and I gotta admit he looks damn sexy in it! hehe. Course I think he'd look sexy in a bright neon yellow, ummmm really ugly car! Lol i can't think of an ugly car at the moment! Usually when we go to Bangor we go to a Chinese buffet that's REALLY yummy. But this time we decided to go to Bugaboo creek. I think that was the BEST meal I've ever eaten in a restaurant. I ordered a honey pepper ribeye steak. and OMG that thing was incredible. I ate every last bite, all of my fully loaded baked potatoe even the skin and every last bite of my ceaser salad. Not to mention two slices of bread. I really couldn't move the rest of the day but it was SOOO worth it! And to think I wanted dessert when we first sat down. Cause you know sometimes they have this little menu thing with pictures of desserts right on the table? well they had this one with chocolate mousse sorta stuff with toasted marshmallow over it then a stack of graham crackers to dip into it. LIke a s'more. and MAN it looked sooo good. But I just couldn't eat another bite by the time I was done my actual meal. Well I guess I gotta start getting dressed now. I wish I could say TGIF but nope I gotta say GGAM (good god another Monday!) heheh made that one up myself, hard to tell that huh? lol. Well have a great day everyone! I'll let you know about my fair adventures after tomorrow. *HUGS* Vance

    Life and kittens

Since we're picking I'll take the orange tiger before he's picked! Hope everything works out for you. Vance
  9. YAY, you blogged and I was just sitting here thinking hmmm David should blog. hehehe You're right Desert sons is a really great book, the sequel is really good too. I'm so glad you are getting to move out in a month. Freedom again YAY Vance
  10. Well I survived another one! As summer's go it really wasn't too bad. I think we only had one week of 90 plus temperatures and the nights all stayed pretty cool. I can only remember one night that the AC didn't change over to fan once. I just realized that not only is it the last day of summmer it's also Friday! YAY I guess I'm in for a good day. Least I better be! Sam and I didn't find much on our yard saling trip. I got a book and a keyboard for my computer. (I stock up spares, cause I'm hard on keyboards and they die suddenly) And Sam got some indoor grill thing. I'm not sure why it's not like we can't actually bbq all winter long but he seemed excited about it so I let him have his moment. hehehe WELL I just did the DUMBEST thing! I went to the kitchen to make my toast for breakfast. Got out my plate, got out my butter, got out my knife, set it all in front of the toaster oven and turned the oven on. Then came in here to start my blog and a few minutes later the toaster dings and I run out to grab my breakfast and there's no toast in it! I forgot to put the bread in the toaster! lol Maybe it WON'T be such a great day! I have since added the bread to the toaster though so hopefully this time things will work out better. hehe It's freezing here this morning, but mind you I'm not complaining. I'd rather wake up shivering than wake up sweating. There's always clothes to put on, but only so much you can take off. That's how I see it! The leaves are all changing color and it's really pretty here right now my favorite colors are yellow and orange so that's just another reason I love fall so much! We are having a big lasagna dinner this sunday complete with ceaser salad and garlic bread! You know we've both tried several times to make 'awesome' garlic bread but we both prefer that store brand kind that comes in the foil wrap. You just put it in the oven for ten minutes and voila! instant garlic bread. We don't really have any other plans. The last two Sundays we been watching those marathons on ABC family. First was 'Super Nanny' and the next week was 'Wife Swap' those are really good shows! then last week after the 'Wife Swap' Marathon was over we watched Sound of Music, Sam wasn't too happy about it, but i figured since we'd 'been in touch' with our feminine sides all day it was a good time to watch it. He reluctantly agreed or at least accepted, though he really didn't like it so much when I started singing along. hehehe I tried to be good but sometimes it just pops out without me even realizing it. Well hmmm I guess that's all I have to talk about this morning. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
  11. You know I gotta say I love my computer. I'm lazy about maintaining it, it's four years old, was a Walmart special and it's never given me a bit of trouble. the person below me loves the show 'Wings' no not that one on discovery. The sitcom about two brothers running an airline in Nantucket.
  12. I think summer is back for one more weekend I knew I shouldn't have taken those air conditioners out last weekend. It was just so nice and cool out. I wanted fresh air in the house. And the nights have been down in the low 40's and I wanted that air inside too! I'm not going to bother to just put them back in for one weekend. I'll be strong! lol and the thought it's gonna get really cool here after the weekend will keep me going. I tried hummus yesterday for the first time! I never thought of trying it before because it just looks nasty, but the bosses wife made some and brought it into work and BOY was it yummy! OH I also bought four movies a couple weeks ago. Movie Gallery has these awesome sales of 'buy two get two free previewed movies.' so really i got them for about five dollars a piece. Heck that's pretty much what you pay to rent them there. Three of the movies were really good, Bench Warmers, The Hills Have Eyes, and Final Destination 3. The fourth one, A New World, we didn't even get through. Sam even opted to watch Final Destination 3 instead and he really doesn't like horror movies, so that shows just how badly we didn't like it! Colin Ferrel being in it or not, it wasn't worth it for us. We still have all but the first episode of the second season of QAF to watch too. We'll probly do that this sunday, at least part of it. Tomorrow we are going Yard Saleing. We usually go in the Spring but never got to it this year and I heard of at least 3 we can go to tomorrow if I can drag Sam's butt out of bed early enough. I'll be glad when today is over, it's been a long week I've had to work 8-5 for the last two days and today because one girl has days off. She has a lot of days off these next few weeks so I'll be doing it a lot but I'm sure I'll survive, I just hate when four o'clock rolls around and everyone's leaving and I usually do, but I'm still sitting there watching the clock for another hour. hmmmm well I guess that's all I gotta say, hehe I been sitting here for ten minutes just staring at the screen so I must be done!! Have a great day everyone. and TGIF! Vance
  13. Happy Birthday Jeff! I hope you have a wonderful day! Vance
  14. The name of the song is "I can only Imagine" by Mercy Me. I've always liked this song. Here is a link to the words. http://www.catchanangel.com/Jenimagine.html they play the song there too.
  15. Congratulations Nick!
  16. YAY DAVID!! I'm so Happy for you! Not much longer now and you'll be parent free! Vance
  17. Happy Birthday Drew !!!! I hope you have a great one!
  18. LOL Kevin you are so funny. That was a riot. I love how your mind works, always thinking! *HUGS* Vance
  19. I'm so excited about this three day weekend! I don't believe I've ever looked forward to an extra day off this much. Work is just too darn stressful lately. I'm grouchy and tired, I guess this is what real work is! I shoulda known I wouldn't get to just sit around and just makes ads, that would be too much fun! My problem? People keep getting fired and I keep getting their jobs! I am now doing what three people did two months ago. Another person is leaving in 3 weeks, on their own accord and there's talk of me taking over that job. I about hit the roof. I wonder just how many jobs they think I can do, all I can say is if I do get stuck with this new job they better take away some of the others. I might actually even tell them no if they bother to ask me if I'll do it. Problem is they rarely ask. The last job I was 'assigned' is working on the computers, dealing with network problems crap like that. I told them over and over I don't know how to do that stuff, but yet here I am every day fighting with something I don't know how to fix. I guess since I could add printers and fix printer jams and change inks they actually thought I was qualified to run a network. WELL that's the furthest thing from the truth I've ever heard. People go to school for years to learn that stuff. Usually when I have to do something I don't know I play 'hit or miss' sometimes it's right sometimes I mess up. Well you can't pay 'hit or miss' with an office network. A mess up becomes a huge castrophe, not something you can go back and erase. However despite my repeated pleas I'm still stuck with it. I adamantly stand behind my 'I'm not qualified nor do I know how to do this statement' and hopefully when I crash the whole system they'll actually remember I said that and maybe by some wince of a miracle they'll listen to me in the future. *takes deep breath* Geez that was quite a rant there! All I was gonna do was say YAY about a long weekend. hehe, If you're still reading this I appreciate your patience! Sam doesn't have a long weekend but at least we still have our regular weekend and he'll be home until three on Monday so that's some extra time with him. We are having a big turkey dinner on Sunday with all the fixings and I really can't wait for that! We will also be continuing our Queer as Folk marathon. I bought season's one and two on DVD a few weeks ago. Got them both for 70 dollars which I thought was a great deal. We never saw it on TV because we don't get movie channels, but my best friend had taped the last season for us so we got to see that and we both liked it, so when I saw such a good price on the first two seasons I grabbed them up! I expect my new story will start posting one week from today. And hold onto your seats it's not named by it's main character!! The official title is "Unbreakable Faith" a HUGE thanks to Sharon for that title by the way!! Well I guess that's all I have to say for now. I have to start getting ready for work. Have a great Friday everyone.
  20. Happy Birthday GaryO! I hope you have an incredible day!! *HUGS* Vance
  21. I am, I am! But actually fall weather has already started here. Days in the high sixties low seventies nights in the forties. I LOVE IT! the person below me has a favorite show they are embarrassed to admit is their favorite.
  22. Well since soooo many people say I talk like a hick I had to do this one! 45% General American English 40% Yankee 5% Dixie 5% Upper Midwestern 0% Midwestern and NO I didn't cheat! hehe I guess there's just no special rating for 'hick'

    More Ramblings

Yeah and ofcourse I know the Beatles gotta love that Hotel California!
  24. Again I don't have any exciting or earth shattering events to share but I just felt like blogging this morning. I sat here and couldn't really even come up with anything to say, but I'm usually that way then once I get typing I go on and on, so I figured I'd try that! Soooo let's see. I bought one of those Bissel green machine carpet cleaners last week. We don't reallly have a lot of carpet in our place but we do have two big area rugs that are far too big to just throw in the washer. And with a cat that has a tendency to puke I figured it may be a good purchase. So last weekend I cleaned the area rugs and I gotta say once I finally got the thing working right I found I really love it! I've been sneezing for two days now, worse than my usual allergy sneezing and I'm really really hoping I'm not getting sick again. I don't feel bad really, other than the sneezing but last night in the middle of the night I had to get up and use Nasal spray and my inhaler because I couldn't breathe. I haven't used that inhaler since last time I was sick so that made me even more nervous. I'm hoping it's just that fall seems to have arrived early here and my allergies get worse in the fall. Maybe it's wishful thinking but I'm going with it! I have Thursday off this week. Sam's mom and I go on an outing usually once a year. Just shopping and out to lunch. Usually it's closer to Sam's B-day so we can go shopping for him but she had this week off and kinda wanted to spend one day with me, so I asked for a day off. It should be fun, I'm always kinda nervous at first but once we hit a couple stores I relax and we have a real good time. I guess I have to get the 'evil mother 'n law' image out of my head, because she's not evil she's actually very very nice, Course she has to be to have raised a person as great as Sam. Well Cameron is all done! My next story has survived it's first round of edit and I am just going in and making the changes now, then I will send it back to Sharon for a final go over. I think it will start posting in a couple weeks. Pretty sure of it actually. This one is all written so I get to take a little break, though not too long a one because I don't want to be writing the same chapter that's going to be posting that week like I did with the last ten chapters of Cameron. It's stressful and too much like homework! hehehe. The story I want to post after this next one is about 1/3 written a couple people have read what I have so far and like it so I'm going to try and contiunue it so it can be posted. I'd like to thank everyone who read Cameron and those who posted in my forum. It's really nice to see feedback and I should tell you all more often how much I appreciate you, because I do appreciate you ALOT! It's a lot more exciting to write a story, post it and hear what people think than to write a story and have it stored on my hard drive or on disks for all eternity! It was a lot of fun reading your predictions and hearing all you had to say in general. It's a really good feeling to know people are taking time out of their day to read your story and post how they feel about it. Well I was right, 'the just sit here and type' trick worked! hehehe. I better finish getting ready for work. I hope you all have a great day!! *HUGS*
  25. That is a wonderful statement! I wish more people had feelings like that, people would be more understanding of others and see below the surface of things could change a lot of things in this world! *Hugs* Vance
