I took her to Charleston to see the maxillofacial specialist at MUSC. He was the one that did the phone consult with the local ER last evening. Oh, and yes, he had a very cute and personable young resident working with him. After reviewing her scans he said surgery is not indicated since the facture is intact. There is no concern that her eye could sink into the socket or damage to the surrounding tissue. It just needs to heal naturally. As a treat I stopped at our favorite BBQ place, Hog Heaven, and got a pound of pulled pork for take out. I had fresh corn on the cob from the local farmer's market that was meant for last night's dinner. We had pulled pork sliders and fresh corn on the cob. No, we didn't eat the entire pound of pulled pork, leftovers will go into the freezer for another time.

Thank you. The issue seems compounded by the fact she only has one small step leaving the house otherwise she's on one level. It's only away from home she encounters them.

The first fall was at a friends house, the second at a restaurant we frequent. The restaurant has a ramp for handicapped patrons, we've just never thought it necessary. These falls are a recent development.

Mum fell again. This time on the top step going into a nearby restaurant for lunch. Not injured as badly but we spent 4 hours in the ER. No stitches this time, just glue and steri-strips as the cuts were smaller. However, the CT scans show an intact fracture in the orbital bone. These typically heal fine on their own but the on-call specialist requested a follow-up call tomorrow as a precaution since he was calling in from the university hospital in Charleston. Steps are becoming the bane of mum's wellbeing.

Many docs are now part of larger medical practices that set the policy on how much time is allotted per patient. Many doctors have little to no control over their scheduling. So rather than becoming frustrated with them over delays focus on the care and attention they pay to your needs when they treat you. Remember, if they end up spending more than the allotted time with you the next person in line waits a bit extra but that time spent with you mattered to the doc.

I'm finally going to begin a treatment that will hopefully correct the problem with my left eye. It involves eight infusions spaced 3 weeks apart. The first is scheduled for this coming Wednesday morning. I hope it works and that I don't encounter any of the more serious side effects like temporary(?) hearing loss or diabetes. Fingers crossed.
